Chapter 14 – Sad News

What took her so long? Jun Xiong started worrying for her safety. It had been 15 minutes since Mara left. He got up to look for her. There she is! He felt relief. But his relief was short-lived. Mara was in a heated argument with the ice-cream vendor. The vendor was shouting at her.

Jun Xiong rushed to stand by her side. However, recognition stopped him in his tracks. The man was familiar. Dad?!

He hid behind a tree near them. Jun Xiong could not find the courage to face his father. How Dad had aged, pain poked at his heart as he observed his father’s greying hair, wrinkling face and shrivelling body. His Dad had been one of the wealthiest merchants but what could have happened that reduced him to such a miserable state?

The answer was out almost immediately. “Tell that useless son of mine to come and see me himself! If he cared for the family, he wouldn’t have left us at all! His mother died 10 years ago with her last wish to see him again. But she NEVER got to see him. I lost everything to save her. He should be happy now since I sold my business away and he can have all his damn music!” His father yelled at Mara.

What?! Mum’s dead? No! It can’t be

Jun Xiong was numbed with hurt. Grief gripped his heart. Mum, why didn’t you wait a little longer? Didn’t you say you’ll wait for me to return home? He dashed to the beach and plopped down onto the sand. His hands were cold. Jun Xiong could no longer feel anything apart from the shattering of his heart. He looked at the sky. It was a starry night once more, the same as the night his grandpa left…

Mum, where did gramps go to?”

You see that brightest star up there? That’s grandpa. He’ll always be watching over you from up there…”

Mum, are you up there too? A tear trickled down his cheek...

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

How I wonder what you are.

Up above the world so high,

Like a…”

Jun Xiong’s voice cracked up. A lump was forming at his throat, making it difficult for him to continue with his song…

Yea.. I was a little harsh here. >.< But this was what made them similar.

yuu shindemura

that was harsh--for Jun Xiong's state. but that was a real twist too, like he did left for music, and then he said "wait for me, mom" or like that. very much of a twist. i like it so much---the drama is really heartfelt. XD

Oh you just love to make your characters miserable don't you?
I am just playing I feel sorry for him though.

Seriously, no! I don't like miserable characters but it's kinda required for this plot somehow. This story kinda flowed naturally so everything just went that way. I'm glad you felt for him. =D
