Chapter 20 – A Sad Soul

She hates me… Jun Xiong thought miserably to himself. Three days had passed since he last saw Mara. He missed her terribly. Her gentle smile, her beautiful hazel eyes, her melodious voice and all other captivating aspects of Mara which had once made him smile now only served as painful memories.

“You’re already dead.” Mara’s voice echoed in his mind. Yes, he was dead. In fact, Jun Xiong had already been dead for nearly seventeen years. The past years had been a nightmare for him. He was trapped in a dark abyss which he could not find a way out. He had been alone. There was no one else. His only companion had been the ticking sounds he constantly heard in the darkness. His poor soul had been tortured for almost seventeen years until he was released on the night he met Mara.

Maramy sweet Mara… How his heart cried for her…

As if Fate had decreed that once was not enough, this was the second time Jun Xiong was suffering from a broken heart. The pain had been as intense as the time he had left Thelma, his fianc. He could not forget their love. Although their love had been short-lived, they knew they were destined to be together. Their passion for music, their fate in meeting each other again in the music academy; everything had brought them together.

But his first sweet love had only lasted a year. Thelma’s tears had fallen on his face the day he left her. He was only 22 years of age then, just one year since he enrolled into Royal Academy of music. He had dreams; dreams of becoming a musician, dreams of having children with Thelma, dreams of going back to the warmth of his family; all vanished in a day. Death had claimed him brutally that fateful day…

The road had been slippery since the rain started pouring. Jun Xiong was driving along the London highways with Thelma by his side. Suddenly, his car hydroplaned, crashed into the centre divider and skidded onto the tracks of the opposing traffic. A truck was coming at his car. He had manoeuvred his car such that the driver will take the brunt of the impact. At this moment, the truck crashed into his car. He could feel warm dark fluid flowing down his head. Thelma was crying for him. She had been fortunate. The truck crashed into the driver’s side of his car. Thelma was unscathed. He had sacrificed his life for her.

Jun Xiong walked towards the small lake. He remembered how Thelma used to be here with him. They had known each other since they were 8 years of age. They would skip along the lake; play make-believe wedding games, and so much more. He had cried badly when her father chose to relocate back to their hometown in London. They cuddled together that night before she left, hoping her father would be unable to separate them. But the two 12 year olds were split apart. They were brought together again by fate when both had enrolled into the same music academy.

Why bring us together when we’re going to be apart so soon? Jun Xiong’s mind and soul had been tortured by this question for years as he was stuck in the dark abyss. He gazed at his own reflection in the lake. His features still belonged to those of a 22 year old. His dreams and passions were robbed from him, for that was a forlorn face that had faced Death. When he thought everything was gone, Mara appeared.

But even now, she’s gone from me

“Goodbye.” He bid farewell to the cruel world. Jun Xiong closed his eyes. He was ready to plunge into the lake. His determination was an increasing source of power. One, two, three

A hand pulled him back…

whoa he really was able to maneuver the car before the impact--he really was a good guy...and it was sad to know him and Thelma knew each other since childhood. that added the points in bonus of the sadness to be felt for the readers. ^.^
