Chapter 24 – Possessed

He was standing by the small lake as promised. In fact, Jun Xiong was there even before the sunset. How did her job search go? He was worried for Mara. Apart from his anxiety, he had felt an escalating thrill to seeing Mara again. For the entire day, he had been smiling gleefully like a fool. In his eyes, she was his only bliss. Her lovable smile, her beautiful hazel eyes, her attractive long hair and even her scent – all summed up to a sweet intoxication for Jun Xiong.

The night had descended. He was fascinated as the stars slowly lit up the dark sky. It was a starry night. Jun Xiong indulged in the splendour brought by the glow of the stars. He sighed, wondering if he would be able to enjoy such magnificent beauty at the end of tomorrow, his very last day. I shall tell Mara tonight, he decided.

“Jun Xiong!” He heard Mara’s voice. She’s here! Jun Xiong spun around. His bliss was sprinting towards him and waving at the same time. He laughed at her childlike antics. But his laughter was short-lived. He saw two figures approaching from behind Mara.

“I’ve brought your Dad.” She said.

WHAT?! Jun Xiong was stunned. “Why did you bring him here?”

“I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad at me. I think it’s only fair for your father to know the truth. He brought his best friend along because he did not trust me.”

Uncle Lim is here too! Jun Xiong stared at his father’s best pal. Like his Dad, Uncle Lim had aged drastically since he last saw him. A tear escaped from Jun Xiong’s eye. He fondly remembered how Uncle Lim used to shower him with gifts since he was a child.

“So where is my son?” Jun Xiong’s father demanded.

Mara glanced nervously at Jun Xiong. What she said is true... Dad had the right to know about me. Jun Xiong nodded his head despondently.

“Uncle, your son had been here all the time. You are unable to see him because…” Mara’s voice choked up. This must be tough for her; Jun Xiong could hear his heart cracking.

“Because?” His father’s eyes widened with anticipation.

“Because he’s no longer around. Your son died in an accident almost seventeen years ago.” Mara started crying.

“What?!” Both Jun Xiong’s father and his friend exclaimed. Jun Xiong closed his eyes. Sorry Dad! His heart was screaming.

“No! I don’t believe you! No! My son can’t be dead!” His father was shaking his head furiously. He grabbed his frail chest suddenly.

“Are you ok? Take it easy. Breathe.” Uncle Lim said calmly as he held on to his Dad’s trembling body.

“Dad!” Jun Xiong rushed to his father’s side.

By this time, Uncle Lim had turned to Mara. “Will you STOP with your sick jokes? Jun Xiong cannot be dead! His father had been waiting and pining for his son’s return. He has heart problems so please stop toying with the poor man’s emotions!”

Heart problems?! When have Dad started having heart problems?

Mara was grieving terribly now. “Hurry! Come into my body! We don’t have much time left!” She begged Jun Xiong.

NO! I can’t hurt you! Jun Xiong was torn. But Mara had been right. His father was breathing harder by the second now. This might be the last chance he had to apologize to his Dad.

“PLEASE! I promise I won’t die!” Mara screamed at him, urging him to get into her.

With a tortured soul, Jun Xiong entered Mara’s body…

Thanks Hecate! I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Hmm... Mara calls Jun Xiong's Dad as Uncle because that's a common way of greeting in Singapore. Over here, we usually greet the elders casually as uncles or aunties even though they have no blood relation to us. Hope this helps to clear up a bit ^.^

Wow, isn't she manipulative? But at least she does it for the good of others. I really hope that she doesn't die. I would be so sad. Keep me informed, while i waste away in anguish.
