Chapter 3

Seven classes and seven hours later and I was almost done with my first day at Laurren Marie High. I walked out of my math class - yes I still had to do math at a Faery school - and saw Beylie standing outside the door. She'd been showing me to my classes and helping me around all day. Now here she stood, waiting to take me to my next class.

I walked over to her and got greeted by a smile. "I love having a new roommate I have to show around. I get to leave class early and not get in trouble."

I rolled my eyes. "Glad I'm here for your convenience roomie."

"Me too!" Beylie laughed and led me to my eighth hour class. "Freshman Wingology with Jones, huh? Lucky. I hadit with Robertson. She was horrible. But Jones is awesome. You'll like him."

I sighed and pushed my backpack up my shoulder. She'd said that about all my teachers today and so far she'd been wrong about two of them. I guess, in the long run, with a total of eight teachers and only two bad teachers that's not horrible and it could be a lot worse but still.

Beylie stopped outside a door and turned to me. "Here it is. Freshman Wingology with Jones. Have fun." She skipped away. I watched her disapear into the crowd of students then went into the classroom. The bell hadn't run yet so all the students were up and talking and laughing. I looked around and saw the teacher sitting on his desk talking to one of the students. She walked away and I went over.

"Hi. Um, I'm Min, I'm new here."

"Ah Min Monroe, correct?"

I nodded.

"Nice to meet you MIn. I'm Mr. Jones. Lets see... Your going to need a book." He walked over to the bookshelf on the back wall and grabbed a book for me. He came back and handed it to me. "Just don't leave the book open and unattended in a room with the door open. They like to fly around."

I gaped at Mr. Jones. The books... Fly? "You're kidding me right? Books don't fly."

"These books do. Watch." He took my book and opened it then laid it on his desk. The pages lifted themselves up, pushing against the air. Soon the book was air-born, flapping its covers, blowing its pages and flying away.

"Oh no you don't." Mr. Jones said as the book headed for the door. He jumped up, grabbed it and slammed it shut. "And that is why my door is always closed." He held the book out to me again.

I took it and glanced around the room. "So where do I sit?"

"Well," Mr. Jones grabbed the seating chart and looked at it. "The only empty seat it by Mr. Daae."

Daae? Why did that sound so familiar?

"That little peice of heaven is Ryker Daae." Sommers earlier words echoed in my head. Oh no... Please tell me he has a good younger brother...

I turned slowly and saw he did not have a younger brother. It was him. Ryker Daae. Mr. Pretty Buns. Sitting at a table by himself with an empty seat beside him. My empty seat. I turned back to Mr. Jones with a forced smile on my face. "Thank you." I walked over to Ryker and took my seat right as the bell rang. He didn't say anything. Didn't even look at me.

"All right people!" Mr. Jones went up to the front of the room. "First, we have a new Faey among us, Ms. Min Monroe." He gestured to me and there came a corus of hi's from my classmates. "I want you all to make her feel welcome, understand? And Ryker," He came a little closer and lowered his voice a bit. "Maybe you could help catch her up so she knows what we're doing. Sound good?"

Ryker nodded, still not looking at me.

"Good." Mr. Jones stapped back and raised his voice again. "Next thing I want you to turn in last nights homework to the box then start on your warm ups. Page twenty-six in your books."

Ryker got up and turned his homework in but none of the other kids moved until he was safely back in his seat. I guess none of them wanted to even get close to him for fear of him making them Dark Siders right then and there. In fact, I even got a couple sympathy looks as kids turned their papers in and headed back to their seats. I'm not sure why though. I'm pretty sure Ryker had more respect than to take someone right in the middle of a classroom.

Oh what was I thinking? He should have enoughrespect to not take people at all. I watched him as he opened his book and started on the warm up. His lips were curved down and his eyes focused on his paper. His body was bent slightly over the desk as he worked and his muscles flexed perfectly under his sleeve. Oh what a magnificant peice of art this man was. He could make Leonardo DeCaprio cry.

"I know your staring." He said suddenly. I looked away, realizing a moment too late that I had been staring.

"I, uh, I..."

He sat up straight and looked at me. "Need help?"

I blushed and tried not to look at him. "Yeah. I do."

I felt the stares of my classmates as Ryker reached over and grabbed my book then proceeded to open it to page twenty-six. He grabbed out a peice of paper and handed it to me.

"So... You don't care about the people staring at you like you're a mutant experiment?"

"No. These assholes can suck a hard one."

Snickers came from the tables close enough to us to hear our conversation. Ryker rolled his eyes and pointed to a spot on the page. "Read this and answer the questions."

One glance at the book before me and I knew I had no clue what any of this meant. "Um... I don't think I know any of this..."

Thankfully, Mr. Jones came over at that perfect moment. "Don't worry if you don't get it Min. We'll go over it in a couple minutes and after a few classes, you'll get it." He smiled at me then looked at Ryker. "And how are you doing Mr. Daae?"

"Done sir."

Wow. For an 'evil Dark Sider' Ryker had more manners than anyone in this room. Why were people so afraid of him? He seemed so sweet and not really scarey at all. Well, besides all the black he wore.

After that the class period went by pretty fast and Ryker didn't really speak to me anymore. Not that I really had a problem with that. After dinner, Beylie and I went back to our room and got ready for bed. I debated tellingher about Ryker in my Wungology class but decided not to until later. Later as in we were in bed and it was about ten and I'm pretty sure Beylie was half asleep.

"Beylie? I need to tell yousomething."

Beylie groaned. "Min it's bed time."

"Ryker Daae is in my Wingology class."

Beylie rolled over and turned the bedside table light on. "All right. Speak."

"I... I don't know what to say."

"Why is he even in Freshman Wingology? He's a junior."

"Beylie not the point. What am I going to do?"

"Switch classes?"

"I can't. There's not enough room in my schedule and eighth hour is the only Freshman Wingology class."

Beylie sighed and crossed her arms. "Well... Maybe you could just drop it and take it sophmore or junior year."

"Not happening."

"Then I don't know if you aren't willing to do anything about it. Just don't talk to him, look at him or even breathe on him."

I rolled my eyes. "Well... There's something else you should know about.I kind of sit right next to him."

Beylie's eyes widened and she jumped over and landed on me. I groaned. "Did you have to jump on me?"

"Get. Out. Of. That. Class."

If only it were that easy. If only she knew the truth. I liked being next to Ryker in that class. I like having him byme for an hour everyday. I liked Ryker Daae.
