The next day, Beylie walked me to my Wingology class, sculding me the whole time about Ryker.
"Just remember what I told you. Don't talk to him, don't look at him, just pretend he doesn't exist." She stopped outside the door and turned to me. "Got it?"
"You know, it's kind of hard to ignore him. He is, after all, Mr. tall, dark and handsome. Literally. Unless your blind or utterly stupid, you really can't ignore him."
"Just do it Min." Beylie walked away and I went into my class. Ryker wasn't there yet so Beylie would have the comfort of knowing I'd be safe for another couple minutes. I sat in my seat, got my stuff out and tried to keep myself busy so I didn't stalk the door waiting for Ryker. It kind of failed though and I looked up right as he came by with Annabelle.
I watched as they exchanged a couple words, Annablle's perfect, glossy lips curved up into a smile then her toes pushed her up to press those glossy lips to Rykers. My mouth fell open as if the hinges in my jaw were broken. Ryker had a... girlfriend? And Annabelle of all people? Ms. tall, blonde and beautiful?
I looked away when Ryker escaped Annabelle's lips and came into the classroom. He took his seat and started to get his stuff out while I carefully snuck a peak at him. I should have known he and Annabelle were a thing. Why wouldn't they be? They were both beautiful. They were both Dark Siders. Why wouldn't they be together?
But still, somewhere down in my heart, I wished Ryker had picked someone ugly.
"You're staring again." Rykers voice startled me, making me jump. "Why do you keep staring at me?"
"I-I wasn't st-staring." I stuttered.
He raised his eyebrow. "Yes, I'm with Annabelle. Not happy about it, so to say. But I am."
"How did you...?"
"I know everything."
"Well look who decided to be Mr. Creepy?" I giggled jokingly, debating wether or not I should playfully punch his arm. I decided it would be best not to.
"You wouldn't be the first to think that." Ryker said, a hint of sadness in his voice.
I cleared my thorat, moving past the sudden awkwardness which hung in the air. "So if you're not happy with Annabelle, why not break up with her?"
"I have. She keeps coming back. This is our fifth time dating in the past year alone."
He looked over at me with a look on his face that said 'yes I am aware, dumbshit.'
"Maybe you need to be with someone else, then she can't come back to you."
A corner of Rykers mouth turned up. "And who would you suggest? Misty isn't my type and all you good girls are afraid of me."
I gulped. "I wouldn't say afraid... More like sexually attracted to the point where it scares us."
Ryker rolled his eyes. "You still haven't answer the question. Who would you suggest?"
The bell rang at that exact moment and it couldn't have come sooner. Mr. Jones walked up the the front and started talking. I didn't really listen though. I had too much running through my head.
What had I just done? I'd just told Ryker to dump his girlfriend and find someone else then basically flaunted myself at him. And for what reason? To have false hope that me may come for me? Swing down from a vine wearing nothing but a loin cloth and sweep me off my feet like Tarzan with Jane? That stuff only happened in the fairytales and this... This was the real world. The real Faery world.
The final bell rang and I packed up my stuff quickly then bolted out to meet Beylie. She greeted me with a smile then led me back to our room.
"All right, it's taco night tonight so we need to hurry and do our homework so we can get to the dining hall fast and get first pick of everything. I like me some tacos."
I rolled my eyes. "Okay, whatever Beylie."
She flopped down on her bed and started working on her homework while I went to the bathroom to freshen up. I started the shower and stepped in, instantly feeling relaxed by the warm water on my naked skin. I let it seep into my dark brown hair and flow over my body. It relieved every tension my body held. Relieved all the days stresses.
I didn't realize how long I'd been in the shower until the water ran cold and Beylie banged on the door. "Come on, Min! I would like to actually have some tacos tonight!"
I shut the water off and got out then wrapped myself in a towel. Well it had been nice while it lasted. I got dressed quickly then brished my hair and put some mascara on before going back out to our room. Beylie stood there with her hands on her hips.
"What?" I asked innocently.
"You know exactly what. Look, I don't have time to argue with you so get your shoes on and lets go!"
I put my shoes on extra slow just to piss Beylie off then got drug out of the room by my arm and ran to the dining hall.
"You know, I don't see what the big deal is. They do make extra's of everything." I told Beylie as she pushed through the door and ran up to the line.
"It's important because if i don't get first pick on taco night, I get cranky."
Living with Beylie made me realize two things. One, the girl was kind of a wacko. Two, she had some great taste in music. And it wasn't just Blood on the Dance Floor that she listened to. She had a wide variety of stuff.
Of course I'd learned a lot more from living with her than those two things but those where the most important. In my opinion anyway.
"Min?" I looked up from the beans at the mention of my name and found Ryker standing behind me. I checked to make sure Beylie wasn't in hearing range - she had somehow made her way up to the toppings bar and was picking at the diced tomato selection - before answering Ryker.
"Hey Ryker." I smiled and scooped some beans into my taco shell.
"I was wondering if you would like to sit with me for dinner tonight?"
I gaped at the words that came out of his mouth. Surely he couldn't be serious. He got dared to ask me to sit with him for dinner. Either that or I was dreaming and it was only a matter of seconds before Beylie smacked me in the face with my own pillow.
"You're... You're kidding right?"
"Why would I be kidding?"
He sure as hell sounded serious enough... "So you want me to sit with you at the Dark Sider table with all your little Dark Sider buddies?"
"Well... I guess. But I can't let Beylie see me."
"Nevermind." It was becoming apparent to me that everyone knew who Ryker was but he barely know anyone outside his gang of Dark Siders. It seemed I was one of the only exceptions.
I picked up my plate and followed Ryker to the Dark Sider table in the corner of the dining room. You could tell it was the Dark Sider table even when none of the Dark Siders were at it because it was the only table with a black cloth instead of a white one. And it always had one extra chair as if they waiting for the next person to fall into their grasps and be changed.
And tonight, that lucky idiot may just be me.
