Chapter 8

The sun rose slowly the next morning, it's brightness waking me up and forcing my eyes open. I looked around and saw blooming flowers to my right, Erik and Matt sound asleep to my left and Ryker underneath me with his arms wrapped protectively around me. I sat up quickly, making my head spin. Oh shit. I hadn't meant to fall asleep out here. I was suppose to go back after we were done talking so Beylie wouldn't get suspicious.

I looked around and found everyone was still out here. Misty was cuddled up to Jayk, the twins were proawled out next to me, Ryker lay under me. Everyone was there. Everyone, except Annabelle.

Suddenly images started flashing through my brain. Horrifying images. My parents lying dead and bleeding on our living room floor. All of my friends bleeding and gasping for air. Beylie was screaming something at me but I couldn't hear her. I clamped my eyes shut then reopened them to the scene around me. Only now, the Dark Siders weren't just asleep. They were unmoving, breathless with pools of blood around their heads.

A hand landed on my shoulder and I looked upto find Ryker standing over me. He had a smile on his face and blood on his hands. "Good job Min." His voice echoed through my head even though his lips hadn't moved. I gasped and looked down at myself. My clothes were torn and bloody. I held up my hands which dripped with rich, red blood.

I screamed. This had to be a dream. If only it didn't seem so real...

I stopped screaming.

My eyes flew open and I wasn't in the gardens anymore. I was in a room, small and claustrophobic feeling. It was all white with blood dripping down the walls. What was this? "Who's there?" I called. "And how do you know my name?"

"It is me. I am Mindala." The voice hissed through the room.

"No. I'm Mindala."

"I am Dark Sider Mindala. You don't want this. I know. Trust me."

"What are you talking about? I-I'm not even concidering becoming a Dark Sider."

"Just remember. Always say no Mindala."

I was pulled out of the room and placed back in the gardens. The blood was gone an. Everyone was breathing and fine. But just because the Dark Siders were all right didn't mean I was completely convinced. I pulled my phone out and called home. My mom answered on the second ring.

"Hi sweetie. What are you doing up so early on a Saturday?"

I sighed in relief. "Couldn't sleep."

"Oh. Well I'm glad you called." I could almost visualize the smile on her face. "So what's up baby? How are you liking Laurren Marie High?'

I shrugged then remember she couldn't see me. "It's good. Hey mom can I ask you something?"

"Sure honey."

"When you went here, was there this group called the Dark Siders that everyone was afraid of?"

"Mm no, not that I remember. All though there was this one very peculiar student. He didn't talk to anyone and he usually sat by himself. He would also disapear at the weirdest times. It was really strange. He was a little intimidating but I don't think he had a group." She told. "Out of curiousity, why?"

"Just wondering." I decided not to stress my mom out too much. "Do you remember what the guys name was?"

My mom hesitated for a moment, thinking over her answer. "I don't remember for sure. I think it started with an r. Ryan, maybe? Or Rory..."

"Ah yes that ws it. Ryker. Ryker Daae. He was the strangest kid I've ever seen."

I looked over at Ryker. Yeah. Stranger than she realized. "What did he look like?" I was hoping maybe Ryker's father or someone had the same name as him.

"Ryker? Well, he was tall and extremely handsome. He had this long brown hair that fell down to his waist and he always wore it in a low ponytail. He always wore black and his eyes were the most beautiful dark blue I've ever seen. He was what you would say a 'hottie' or whatever."

I would have laughed at my moms attempt to be cool but I was a little distracted. Unless Ryker's dad looked exactly like him and had his exact same name, I think I had some investigating to do on Ryker Daae. He started to move a little and I knew he was waking up.

"Thanks mom. It was great to talk to you and thanks for answering my question. I have to go now but I'll call you as soon as I can."

"Why do you have to go honey?" My mom asked, worry filling her voice.

"Nothiing bad, mom. My roommate's just waking up. Talk to you later. Love you! Bye." I hung up and slid my phone in my pocket. Ryker opened his eyes and stretched then rolled over and looked at me.

"Hey Min." He gave me one of his famous half smiles. "What are you doing up?"

"I had a nightmare that woke me up. I'm fine though. But I do need to get back to my dorm before Beylie wakes up."

"I can take you."

I hesitated. There were two reasons I didn't really want him to do that. First, Beylie couldn't see him or she'd be more than pissed. Second, I had a lot going through my mind about him right now. With what my mom said and everything that had just happened in my... nightmare or whatever that was, I just couldn't really think straight with him.

But at the same time, I wanted answers and I was going to get them if I had to choke them out of the man. So maybe him walking me to my dorm would be as good a time as any to get the answers I wanted.

"Min?" I looked up at Ryker. "Do you want me to walk you to your dorm?"

I sighed. "Yeah. Sure. But you can't take me in or Beylie will kill me and you."

He nodded and held his hand out to me. I glanced at it then hesitantly placed my hand in his. "Don't be so nervous Min. I'm not going to bite."

"Yes but you may claw and kick."

He stared at me. "What?"

"Ryker, when's your birthday?"

"What kind of a question is that?"

"The kind I want answered." I put my hand that wasn't in Rykers on my hip.

He sighed. "Fine, I give up. April eighth."

"Every year."

I fake laughed. "Very funny, Captain Sarcasm."

"You walked into that one, Min."

Okay to maybe that was true but it still didn't answer my question. "What year were you born?"

"So you're eighteen?"

"Mhmm. Nineteen next month."

I really wasn't sure I believed that. But for now, it would have to do.
