When morning came around, Zack woke up to find Maria lying in his bed next to him under the covers. When he first noticed her, he just stared at her while she slept peacefully. Even when she was asleep she looked like she had such a kind expression. But as if something suddenly hit him, he jumped out of the bed, falling on the floor, making a loud thud which caused maria to wake up. “M-Maria! what are you doing in here? I thought you had your own rom?” Maria sat up, yawning and rubbing her eyes. The blanket fell to reveal the white bra she was wearing. The first thing he noticed was how she was... bigger, than either Claudia or Serene. “Good morning Zack. I thought since I was your new summon, I should get to know you better.” Zack quickly put on his shirt. “Are you serious? Why did you have to sleep in my bed?” Maria blushed lightly and laced her fingers together. “Well... I thought spending as much time as I an with you would be a good idea “ “That doesn't mean sleeping in my bed with me is a good place.” Maria got out of the bed and walked over to him and Zack noticed she was wearing matching underwear. She suddenly put her arms around his neck. “Im so sorry Zack. I thought you wouldn't mind. I wont do it again, okay? Im really sorry.” Zack heard the door suddenly open. “Zack! Its time to get up for school. Breakfast is...” Claudia was in the doorway, staring at them with Maria having her arms still around Zack. Silence filled the room and everything felt like it froze in place. Except for Maria, who apparently didn't even see anything wrong with the situation. “Good morning Claudia.” Maria let Zack go and bowed to her. “Thank you for coming to get Zack. We will be out in a moment. I just need to get dressed.” Maria started lightly humming while she put her kimono and sandals back on. Zack and Claudia’s eyes were locked on each other the entire time, but once Maria was finished dressing, Claudia suddenly ran to her room, slammed the door and locked it. Zack could hear her crying through the walls. Maria walked over to the doorway. “Was it something I said?”
Maria, Zack and Crea where the only ones down at breakfast this morning. Serene had somehow disappeared the previous night, and even though Zack tried to get Claudia out of her room, she would not even open the door. Once all three had finished, Maria took the plates to clean them. “Maria.” Zack sighed. “We will need to try and get you enlisted in the school. It might seem suspicious if your not there with one of us.” Maria smiled. “Okay. Ill get ready to leave once I've cleaned these.” Once she was out of the room, Zack put his elbows on the table and his head in his hands. Crea was quickly at his side, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Zack? What's wrong?” He only shook his head. “I think Claudia is going to throw us out Crea. Maria slept in my bed last night.” Crea sat down. “I didn't think you would be so stupid as to do that Zack.” He got right up. “No, Crea. That's exactly it. I didn't do anything. I fell asleep alone and woke up with Maria in her underwear sleeping next to me. Claudia, having perfect timing, happened to walk in when Maria was hugging me.” Crea looked into his eyes for a few moments. “Tell that to me straight.” Zack returned the gaze. “I. Did. Not. Do. Anything.” They were both silent as Crea seemed to examine his eyes, then she lightly shrugged. “Your not lying. But I don't have any way to convince Claudia that your telling the truth.” Zack put his hands on her shoulders. “Of course you can. Just go up to her and tell her that Im not lying!” Crea lowered her head. “And say what? I looked into his eyes and could tell he wasn't lying, even though I have no proof whatsoever? Or maybe I should say I was there too?” Zack sat back down. “I... I guess your right. that wouldn't work very well, would it?” Maria came back out of the kitchen, smiling. “Okay. Im going to go change and Ill be right back.”
When the three finally made it to the school, although they were late because of Zack having tried to get Claudia to come out, Crea went to the elementary school below and Zack walked Maria inside. “We should go sign in first. We can get you signed up to. I don't think they will let you start today, but the sooner the better I guess.” She smiled. “Okay.” She was now wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans with a pair of Claudia’s sneakers. The shirt was rather tight. Going into the office, Zack signed his name on a piece of paper for late students, then went to the principal, who was dealing with the kids in black he had met a few days ago. They were most likely getting in trouble for smoking out back of the school again. Zack tapped on Maria’s shoulder and whispered to her. “Don't forget. You are Serene and Crea’s oldest sister. And you cant use any powers here.” She nodded. “I know. Ill try to be as human as possible.” The students in black were soon out of the office, going to their designated classrooms, and Zack walked in with Maria and sat down in the chairs. The principal didn't seem to happy to see them, but it was most likely because he was still carrying anger from his last conversation. “Alright Zack, what do you need?” Zack glanced at Maria, then the man again. “Well, Maria here was hoping to sign up for school. She is Serene’s older sister.” The man nodded and pulled a sheet from his desk, then tossed it to Maria. It drifted through the air and landed perfectly on her lap. “Alright. Fill this out and she can come back tomorrow.” Zack stood up. “Okay. Thanks a lot. I guess Ill go to class now. See you later Maria.” She stood up. “If its alright with you sir, would it be okay if I was with Zack today so he can show me around?” The man shrugged. “I don't see any harm in that. Go ahead.”
Throughout the day, Zack was much more quiet than usual. No one seemed to notice though. Except for Maria. But when she asked, he only shook his head and told her to pay attention. Almost all of the guys at the school paid close attention to Maria that day, often getting them in trouble with their girlfriends. If anything, Maria thought the guys were only being nice and the girls were doing something wrong by slapping them. But once she tried to confront the girls, Zack only pulled her away, telling her to leave them alone.
Once gym came around, the instructor had half of the students line up against the back wall, and the others about thirty feet away. Many of the students against the wall were the smaller or less strong type. But for the first time, Zack was not against the wall. maria was though, and she was directly in front of him. The instructor came back with a large cardboard box that could easily fit at least three students inside, and put it behind Zack. They were full of red balls, just smaller than basketballs. “Alright, you know the drill! Get to it!” It was dodge ball day. Although most, if not all, high schools never even did this any more, the instructor insisted that he at least be able to do it so the students would be trained to ‘help dodge things’. Of course, it was only because he found it amusing when the smaller kids got pummeled by the larger, more muscular students. While the students lined up to Zack’s sides picked up a ball, he seemed hesitant before he finally did. For one, he had never gotten a chance to throw one of these at others. But another thing was that Maria was watching him. her expression told him that she had no idea what was going on. She just watched him with a smile on her face. Once the first ball was thrown, which Zack quickly realized was by Jackal, the student to Maria's right was hit straight in the face, giving him a massive nosebleed. At first, Zack thought the students nose was broken. Once the student left and was out of the way, the other students against the wall were dropping quickly. Zack had yet to even throw his first ball. Maria was crouching and had her hands over her head. It only took about one minute before only Maria was left. maybe no one wanted to hit her? Or perhaps it was because she had her face covered. Eventually lifted her head, she looked up at Zack. She looked scared. The student next to him put a hand on Zack’s shoulder. “I haven't seen you throw a single ball yet Zack. This is your first time not being a victim to, isn't it? Why don't you take her out?”
The whole group of students to Zack’s side lowered the ball they currently had in their hands and back into the box. Soon enough, they were all ‘cheering’ him on. Even the instructor was in on it. Maria’s eyes gazed at Zack as if to ask what was going on. Lifting the ball to throw it, Zack stopped for a few moments. The cheering only got louder and more organized. Zack’s arm felt like it was shaking. He knew this would help him throughout the school year, and perhaps even anywhere else he would find the others. Suddenly, the ball fell from his hands and he lowered his head. “I cant do it.” There was a loud ‘Boo!’ from the surrounding students. One of them picked up the ball Zack had dropped and tossed it up and down in his hand. “Fine. If you wont, then I will!” He threw the ball at Maria as hard as she could, hitting her in the head. Thankfully, she covered her face before it hit. The students quickly joined in, all throwing a ball at her. They continued, even after they each had thrown one or two. Zack suddenly ran out and put his arms around the still hunched over Maria so only his back and legs were visible to the others. He didn't want them to keep hitting her. Even once the box was empty, the students who had not gotten tired of it continued throwing, even though they knew Zack was in the way. There was still half an hour left before the class ended.
After what felt like the entire half hour, the balls suddenly stopped. Zack slowly turned his head to notice Jackal was standing in front of them, facing the other students. “Everybody stops! That is enough. Leave them alones!” Zack looked at the clock and saw only five minutes had passed. The rest of the students started walking away to do their own thing, not wanting to get Jackal angry. Once they were all gone, jackal picked Zack up by the back of his shirt until he was standing normally. he then put his hands beneath Maria’s arms and helped her stand as well. She seemed okay, but Zack felt like his back was completely numb. “Are you twos okay? They should leave yous alone now.” Zack rubbed his shoulders a bit. “Thanks. It was starting to hurt. I guess you didn't throw any of those, or else it really would have.” Jackal nodded and walked off. Once he was gone, Zack approached Maria, but she threw her arms around him, and he saw some tears forming from her eyes. “Zack! What was going on? Everyone was getting hurt and bleeding and it looked like they wanted to hurt me!” The instructor put his hands between them and pried them apart. “Alright, no weaklings on my court. You. Girl. Get out of here!” Maria ran out the door, going past anyone who got in her way. As Zack started going after her, he felt the instructors hand on his shoulder, stopping him. “You on the other hand are going to run laps the entire class. Get to it!”
As the class finally came to en end, Zack was completely out of breath and panting heavily. Once everyone was finally dismissed, Zack found Maria just outside the gym’s main door. She was sitting with her knees to her chest in the corner, which told him she still felt afraid. As soon as he approached, Maria jumped up and put her arms around his neck. He felt small warm drops of liquid hit his cheek that he easily recognized as tears. “Zack! Please let me go home! I don’t like it here.” The students that overheard looked over while Zack tried to calm her down and whispered to her. “Don’t say things like that out loud. You might draw some very much not needed attention.” She went quiet except for a few sharp inhales and nodded, stepping back. “Sorry. But can we please leave?” He let out a sigh, his breath about back to normal. “Well, I guess we can say you got sick... Lets go to the office. Ill call home and have the limo come get you.”
Maria’s acting was good enough to convince the secretary that she was sick enough to go home, but Zack stayed behind. Even though Maria wanted him to come with her, he knew missing to many classes wouldn't help his grades. And with what was going on with the whole summons competition, something told him he would have to come every day he could so he wouldn't miss too many days all together if something major happened. The day finally ended, and Zack found Crea already standing out at the door. She most likely came running to meet him as soon as she could. “Zack? What happened to Maria?” She pulled on his shirt a bit and whispered into his ear. “I noticed her presence went missing a few hours ago. Is she okay?” Standing back up, Zack nodded. “Well... Sort of. She had a bad first day and wanted to go home early.” “What happened?” “I’m sure she will tell you about it eventually. Either that or you will just keep asking what happened until she finally does.” Zack gently patted her head as Crea crossed her arms. “Hey. That's not nice.”
Going in through the front door, Zack went to his room and put his backpack down. But as he turned to leave, he saw Claudia standing in the doorway. “Um... Zack?” He was silent for a few moments, being a bit surprised. “Look... Claudia. Im sorry about...” “No, it’s okay. Maria talked to me for a bit. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.” Zack paused. “So... You’re not mad?” She shook her head. “No.” Maria came into view behind Claudia and she continued. “She convinced me that there isn’t anything between you two. I didn’t believe her at first, but...” She took a few steps forward. “I should know... You wouldn’t be the kind to try anything like that.” Zack let out a sigh of relief. “Well, I’m just glad you feel that way. Thanks Maria.” Maria smiled, then walked off. Zack looked back at Claudia, who now had her head down and fingers laced together in front of her. “Can you... Forgive me Zack?” He put a smirk on his face, but he still wasn’t to sure on how to respond. “Of course I do. Did you really have to ask?”
