The next day was a normal work day and passed slowly as always. But when the shift was finished the following day, Zack had gone home with Serene to get Crea ready. Once inside, he found her waiting by the door. She was in her usual loose attire. “Zack crossed his arms, noticing the clothes were a bit ragged. “I think we should go get you something new before we go out. Crea smiled, nodding. “Sounds good. I was a bit tired of these things anyway.” “We will be back tonight Serene. I hope you will be able to fed yourself while we are gone.” He spoke jokingly, but Serene only scoffed and went to change.
Zack and Crea went to the mall, but he felt rather awkward shopping with a child. Especially walking through the isles of children's clothes. “Just pick out something cheap and comfortable. I don't have a whole lot of money right now.” He hoped Al would at least pick up half the check. Crea ran back and forth, picking up clothing and handing them to Zack for him to hold onto. Random women were walking through the isles as well, and he saw he was the only male there. The women started giggling and whispering to each other while glancing over at him occasionally. “Crea? Can you please just pick something so we can get out of here?” His face flushed a bit and he waved to a group of women who held their mouths to stop from laughing. “Why is it so odd that I am here?” Crea put some more clothing on the top of the pile he was already holding, but this time, it was children's underwear. “Oh come on!” She smiled happily at him and went back to searching. After half on hour of searching and elimination, Crea picked out two sets of clothing. After Zack had continually reminded her that he only had a limited amount of money. “Next time you go clothes shopping, your taking Serene. I really should have thought this through.” Going up to the register, he put the clothes down and saw Al in the distance. But he had already noticed Zack and was approaching. “Don't tell me those are for you Zack.” “Of course not.” his voice was shaky, and it seemed as though he was trying to tell everyone in the store at once. “They are for this girl right here.” He pointed to Crea and she smiled at Al. “So what are you doing here anyway?” “Oh, I was trying to look for something for Claudia as a gift. She's been taking our parents death pretty hard and Im hoping a gift will cheer her up. She seems pretty happy with you though. At least, she seemed a bit more lively the past two nights.” Zack blinked a few times. “Really?” He looked at the total price. “Jeez Crea. Had to pick something on the expensive side, didn't you?” She grinned and Al glanced at the price. “Hey, I know. As a thanks for cheering her up, Ill pay for these and even the meal tonight.” He pulled out his wallet, but Zack shook his head. “No, no. Don't worry about it, I got it.” Looking down at what Al pulled out, he practically fell over. “Is that a gold card?” “Yep. My parents were pretty high powered people and had quite a lot of money. I don't mind spending a few more bucks.” Gold cards signified some of the richest people in the country, and sometimes even the world. “Well, thanks for picking that up. I guess I should try to keep your sister happy huh?” Al gave the card over. “You had better. I really don't want to have to hurt you.” Zack nodded frantically. “Yes sir.” Al was bigger built that Zack and looked like he could take him down just as easily as Jack would have. Once the clothes were paid for, Zack returned the card. “Thanks a lot. Alright Crea. Why don't you go change into these. Ill wait here.” She nodded and took a set of the clothing and ran off to the changing room.
When she returned, Zack tossed out her old clothing in a nearby dumpster. Crea didn't seem to want them anymore anyway. Now, she wore a red shirt and jeans as if following Zack's style. She was also wearing small blue sneakers that she picked out. Al walked with them until they reached the malls entrance. “Here. Ill give you a ride. Claudia is waiting for me in the limo to.” Zack looked out the window and saw a long white limo waiting in front. “Holy...!” Crea helped him stand up. Going outside, Zack looked up and down the limo with wide eyes. “I cant believe it. Iv never seen one of these this close up before. Are you sure you want pizza? I bet you could get all kinds of fancy, and better for you, foods as much as you want.” Al opened the door to the back, having told his driver to not bother opening it himself. “Yeah, but you have to understand that Claudia never got much of a chance to leave the house. She likes to leave whenever she gets the chance.” Zack nodded and got in with Crea. He sat next to Claudia and Crea sat on the floor, holding the bag to her new clothes. Al got in and closed the door behind him, then sat on the opposing seat. “Lets go. To the nearest pizza place!” Zack barely felt the limo start to move. It was quiet and moved like it was on air. “So how do you like our ride Zack?” Zack was still looking around the large space he was sitting in with wide eyes. “Looks very expensive, I can say that.” Crea smiled and Claudia spoke. “Hey there. What's your name?” “Crea.” “Are you Zack's friend?” Zack and Crea looked at each other, their eyes still wide. What were they going to say? If they told them that Crea was the younger sister of Serene, then they would have to know who Serene was and what they were telling everyone she was. “She’s uh... A family friend coming for a visit. She’s living with me for now.” Claudia nodded. “Oh really. How old are you Crea?” “I am...” She looked down at her hands, pretending to count. Zack could tell she was putting up an act. “Eight. Eight years old.” “So were did you live before coming up to visit Zack?” Crea looked at Zack hesitantly. “Well... I...” “Give them a rest Claudia.” Al said. “It seems they don't want to give to much information. And that's fine. maybe the past is something we shouldn't know about. Besides, here we are.” The limo stopped directly in front of the entrance. “Come back in an hour.” The driver nodded and pulled away once the group got out.
Zack sat next to Claudia while Crea sat next to Al on the opposing seat across the table, and Crea had left her clothes in the limo to not have to hold it the whole time. Once the order was placed, Zack spoke. “Well, thanks for paying tonight. Especially for Crea's clothes. I really don't have much money left, so you really saved me there.” Al shrugged. “No problem. Just remember our ‘deal’.” Claudia looked back and forth between them. “Deal?” “Ah, don't worry about it Claudia. Its nothing.” Al gently gave Crea a pat on the head. “So what do you like to do Crea?” She tilted her head slightly, thinking. “Well, I guess I like to do housework in Zack's place. He really needed it to be cleaned up, and I guess I just got into it. Cooking is fun to.” Claudia smiled. “That's a bit much for someone of your age, don't you think?” Crea shook her head. “Nah. I like to do it. besides. I don't think Zack would have been doing very well if I hadn't come along when I did.” Zack nodded in agreement. He knew what else she was talking about, but the siblings wouldn't have. Al sighed, then looked down at Crea. “So what do your parents do?” She paused, but Claudia spoke up. “Aren't you the one who told me to leave their past alone?” “Oh yeah. Sorry.” He grinned and gave her another pat. It seemed like he did not know his own strength since he pressed a bit harder than most would have. but he was just playing around, and it wasn't like Crea was getting hurt. Claudia smiled. “Well, thanks for being so nice to us Zack. I really appreciate it. I always thought people on the outside were like... Well... Cas. I was a bit worried at first, but if there are more people like you, then I think everything will be okay.” She leaned her head on his shoulder and his face turned a bit red. Putting his arm around her shoulders, he nodded. “No problem.” The group was quiet for a few moments. Zack was happy, but he felt kind of bad at the same time. Was this like taking advantage of the moment? He didn't want to have it be like that. These were nice people going through a hard time, and the last thing he needed to do was turn them against him. “So what did you do before all of this Al? Iv never seen you around either.” “pretty much the same as Claudia. I was doing the same classes and such. But I was also being raised to be a bodyguard for my parents. But to also be a guardian for everyone else in the household.” “So that's why your like that.” Zack pointed to Al’s chest with his free hand. “I suppose so. Lots of physical training your whole life will do this to you. Why don't you come and work out some time? Seems like you could use some muscle of all people.” He gave Zack a light punch on the arm, but it didn't feel light. “Ow. I guess that wouldn't hurt if I was to work out more, huh?” “Nope.” “Alright. ill do it. Will you be okay with that Crea?” Crea nodded happily. “I think it would be a great idea. You really will need to get stronger.” Al put a fist into his other open hand. “Alright! This Friday I will give you a ride after work. Ill start you off easy, but be sure to take it seriously. I have very low tolerance for people who give up.” Zack nodded. “Sure. Just don't break my limbs and accuse me of quitting.” The group laughed a bit.
Once the meal was over, they talked for a bit longer until they saw the limo pull up. “Well, see you tomorrow Zack. Thanks for coming.” Zack nodded to Al, then gave Claudia a light hug, who returned it. “Yes. Thank you Zack. I had a great time tonight.” Waving, the siblings got into the vehicle and rode off. Zack sighed, putting a hand over his stomach. Although he did not want to take advantage of Al paying, he did it anyway. Crea had quite an appetite herself and ate almost as much as he did. “Oh no! I forgot to get my clothes out of the car.” “Ah, don't worry. Im sure they will give it to me at work tomorrow.” he felt some raindrops begin to come down. “but for now, lets try to keep the ones you are wearing now dry. Might as well try to keep your good clothing in the best condition we can until we get more.” She nodded and jumped onto his shoulders as he ducked down to retie his shoes. “I hope Serene bothered to feed herself. I don't know if she has ever cooked before, or even seen anyone do it professionally.” “Yeah, we should go check on her.” Zack carried Crea all the way.
Going into his apartment, Zack put Crea down. They had just barely made it inside before the rain started to come down hard. Serene was in her usual spot as if she had not even moved. Closing the door behind him, Zack rotated his shoulders and neck. Crea was a bit heavier than he thought. “Serene, please tell me you moved from there at least once to feed yourself.” She shrugged and Zack let out a sigh. “That's probably the best answer I am going to get huh?” He looked down to Crea as she nodded. “Most likely. Well, Im going to bed. Good night, and thanks for letting me come.” She ran to the bedroom and closed the door. “So Serene. How was your night?” She shrugged again. “jeez, its like talking to a wall. Well, good night then.” He went to his room and closed the door, leaving Serene there. He figured there was no way to get her to talk. Force was out of the question, and she seemed to practically be made of cold steel. Did she even care about anything at all? She seemed rather selfish to him. Laying on his bed, Zack fell asleep quicker than usual, having fallen asleep within moments of getting comfortable.
Serene stood up off the wall about half an hour after Zack had gone to bed. Looking out the window, she gazed around a bit. As lightning struck, she noticed a shadow in the park below and she looked a bit more closely. But the when the lightning flashed a second time, it was no longer there. “Is that... How did he find us already?” She looked over at the door in front of Zack’s mother’s room as it opened and Crea came running out. Jumping up, she wrapped her arms around Serene’s waist and tears were coming out of her eyes. “Sereeeene!” She sniffled lightly. “Come to bed. I don't want to be alone in a storm.” Serene sighed and gently placed her left hand on the girls head. “Sometimes I find it difficult to believe how old you really are.” Going to the bedroom, Serene closed the door behind her, Crea having held on tightly the whole way.
