Chapter 2 – Vampires? Hell no

I could smell it! A bloody, filthy, parasite! There was a bloody leech a few tables away from me, drinking the unmistakeable crimson liquid that all vampires drink; blood.

“Hey, welcome to Jeffrey’s can I take your order?” A skinny girl, who looked like a Goth asked me for the fifth time.

“Can I just get a coffee for now?” I asked, giving her a little smile, while out of the corner of my eye watching the leech that sat a few tables away from me.

“Sure, did you want milk and sugar with that?” She asked again, acting as if I was about to answer the million dollar question.

“Um, yes and yes thanks.” She walked off with my order carrying a goofy grin on her face. Ignoring the fact I was annoyed because this Jeremiah guy wasn’t here yet, I decided to go and see if the leech was one I had “ran” into in the past. Walking over to the leech, he rose as soon as he saw me coming.

“Excuse me do I know you?” I asked smiling sweetly and acting as if I had no idea that he was a vampire, pretending that he was human. I could see that under his hat and his coat that he was smiling.

“I’m afraid not ma’am but whoever you have mistaken me for is a very, very lucky man.” The stupid leech was flirting with me! Ha well he wasn’t going to win this war.

“Oh well then, I am terribly sorry.”  I turned around and walked back to my table making sure he got a good view of my swaying hips. The leech was going to fall and crumble in my hands. I picked up my coffee and walked out the door, I didn’t bother checking over my shoulder to see if he was following, I could simply tell by his foul odour that he was following, closely behind me. The second that we were in the alley, the very same second we were out of mortal sight he had me pinned against the wall, forcing his whole immortal strength against me we still hadn’t realized I was just immortal as he was, the only difference was that I was a slayer and he was what I slay and he wouldn’t realize that until the very last second.

“Now you listen closely bitch, you are going to do what I tell you to and how I tell you to and if you don’t do what I demand of you then heck you’re going to get it real bad you trashy little piece of meat.” The second he spoke, I knew that the charming, flirty guy he was in the coffee shop was a mirage, a scam, a con, to pull me in, to attract me to him and he expected to get stuck in that trap and to not be able to do anything once I was stuck but the fact was that I didn’t get stuck, I could still do something about it but the second he called me a bitch I froze – mind you I didn’t freeze to anything, not when I killed for the first time and especially not when my parents were murdered before my eyes – and then he licked me, he slid his tongue over my face and into my mouth, while I just stood there frozen like I had just saw a ghost.

“Good, I’m glad you understand how things are going to go down. Now, I want you to get down on your knees like the little bitch you are and suck my prick until I tell you to stop.” He continued to demand of me but I still couldn’t move, I knew what I had to do, push the creep of a vampire off of me, kick the living shit out of him –excuse my French – until he is just a corpse on the ground and then burn his ashes for good measure but I couldn’t do it because I was frozen in place but even if I could move, even if I wanted to, it was too late because I had pissed him off. Without warning he grip my neck in a death-lock and slammed my head against the wall causing massive fireballs of pain bounce around my head as if it was a pinball machine running amuck.

“You stupid bitch, you’re not listening. I told you what would happen and now I have no choice but to enforce the rules.” He smiled and this time it wasn’t sweet or friendly like it was back in the coffee shop – which seems like weeks ago rather than a few minutes ago – his smile was as evil as a vampire gets, spreading from ear to ear but behind him leaning against the dark alleyway was another figure grimacing at the man – or vampire – that seem to be intended to take my life from me but my eyes remained glued to the other man, he moved silently and as quick as light, ripping my intended killer off of me and bashing the living shit out of him, making sure that he wasn’t dead before he lit him alight, pleased with the wild shrieks the vampire made as he was burnt alive or should I say undead. Watching the other man do what I knew that I should have done as soon as I was in the alley blew my mind. Who was this guy? How did he know the vampire was well a vampire? And why on earth did he save me for? Someone who was able to take care of herself and for some reason didn’t?

“Zafire are you okay?” He asked me rushing to my side, his voice was familiar as if I had heard it in a past I didn’t really remember or in a dream I couldn’t exactly relive and yet it was foreign. Wild at the same time as if he was an exotic man of English or Europe origin but his eyes, wow his eyes were like oceans a deep livid blue that I could and most likely was drowning in. He seemed to know me as if he was a part of my past that I didn’t want to recall and yet somehow I couldn’t for the life of me remember the hunk of a man who seemed to know me.

“Yea, wait how do you know me?” My voice came out husky, exotic and completely sounding unlike me and then I blushed embarrassed by how ridiculous I sounded to myself but his ocean like eyes were wide as if he found how I spoke was attractive to him or perhaps the way I looked appealed to him more?

“Umm I am Jeremiah, I called you this morning. I wasn’t expecting Dan to go bonkers on you like that, shame I didn’t want to kill him though the way he was acting was completely intolerable, sorry about that by the way. Umm do you want to come back to my place and we can talk about what happened to your parents? It’s best that I tell you away from the public eye.” He asked me, it seemed as if he was desperate to get out of the public eye. I absently nodded my head and as soon as his eyes were off of me, I took in his complete appearance the way he looked was amazing, he had olive skin, his hair was white as snow, his eyes were a deep blue and he had a perfect set of lips and that was just his face, he was quite fit and well toned without being the typical steroid junkie football player and covering that well built body he was dressed in all black, black sneakers, black jeans, black t-shirt under a black trench coat everything was black except for the silver aviators that sat perfectly upon his head. I was hoping he only wore that because he thought it was his “style” rather than the oppressing fact that he may be a vampire which I was praying to god – if there even was one – that he wasn’t one of those blood sucking, filthy leeches. We walked for about five minutes when I saw him pull out his keys and unlock the red mustang that was right in front of us, I saw him looking at me smiling as I felt my own lips pull into a little grin.

“Nice Ride.” I commented, approving of his mustang sitting down on the black leather seat.

“Thanks, it’s always nice to ride in style when you have forever to live for.” Grinning from ear to ear like a cherish cat, not revealing anything on his part. Vampires were immortal but so where the Slayers and nothing that I had revealed about him so far told me if he was one or the other. All I knew was that it was starting to annoy me that I couldn’t figure him out. He got in the car as well and put the key in the ignition and the next thing I knew we were off heading towards downtown and it seemed that we never got caught at a red light; which mind you was impossible in this area of downtown. He was laughing enjoying the speed, the freedom and I couldn’t say that it meant he was a vampire because I was enjoying it too and I knew that I was defiantly not a vampire and then before I knew it we were at a stop outside a beautiful house which was closer towards the water than it was to downtown and I hardly even noticed the time fly by or the distance from point a to point b.

“Well this is my humble abode. Let me walk you in M’lady.” He added mockingly with a wicked grin, holding out his arm waiting for me to take it, which I did as mockingly formal as I could. He walked me into his home and led me into the living room.

His house was almost amazing! The living room was huge and it could have easily counted as two rooms put together, Across the back wall – which wasn’t really a wall but a wall made out of glass panes that ran from the ceiling to the floor – you could see an amazing view of the ocean, the other walls were an off white colour like an eggshell colour but it was contrasted to a black carpet that felt amazing; even through my shoes and the furniture was a bright leather red and to add it all off there was a fire place near the back wall so that you could sit next to the fire and look out onto the ocean but that was where it stopped being amazing because there was nothing that made it feel like a home, there were no pictures hanging off of the walls or on the fireplace mantel, there were no random objects that lay around the place. There was nothing that made it feel like a home, it made me sad to think that this amazing place with a hot guy could be so abandon. Turning my eyes away from the almost amazing living room, I went and searched the house for the kitchen which was where he had gone to prepare a coffee for his self and that’s when I saw him, leaning over the kitchen sink, his back was hunched and he was facing away from me, I didn’t know what was wrong with him but I felt a feeling inside of me that was telling me that something wasn’t right.

“Uh are you alright?” I asked not entirely sure if he was okay but not comfortable enough to approach him and find out.

“Do not fear M’lady, I will be alright. It’s just my lunch not agreeing with me.” He turned his brilliant blue eyes on me and smile and I almost smiled back until I saw what was drooling from the side of his mouth, it was crimson and it looked quite thick even if it was just a drop, it was blood; He was a vampire. I was in shock I couldn’t move, I couldn’t do anything but I knew I had to kill him just like I should have killed that Dan guy – yea he was the one who attacked me in the alley – but he must have seen the worry in my eyes making his sweet smile fade away, his eyes turning sad. He wiped away the blood that was drooling from his mouth before he spoke to me again.

“Zafire, please look at me.” I must have been looking away, So I looked back up at him and when I did he smiled a little.

“I’m not going to hurt you, I just wanted to tell you what happened to your parents and I know it will come to a shock for you but you have to believe what I say otherwise a lot of bad things are going to happen.” His ocean like eyes were begging me to listen, to understand but I couldn’t understand what he was saying because I was still in a shock that he was a vampire. Without realizing it I was nodding my head and within a split second he had his arms around me, I must have collapsed otherwise I knew he would be keeping his space. Slowly he walked me back over to the living room and sat me down on a red leather sofa next to the ocean and then sat down next to me. I watched him from the corner of my eye, taking in the fact that he had removed his trench coat and as the setting sun touched his skin it glowed while his face was distorted in pain. It once again surprised me, he was a vampire there was no doubt about it, the blood that was drooling from his mouth, the sun burning his skin.... SHIT! The sun was burning him!! In a blink of an eye I was out of the chair, racing towards the thick curtains and closing them before it could kill him.
“Why.... why did you save me? You know what I am and you still saved me? Why?” He was spiting the words out, I knew he didn’t understand but neither did I. I should have let him die sitting right next to me but I saved him instead.

“We’re even now.” I lied coolly. Well it wasn’t really a lie but it was better than telling him that I didn’t know why I did it. It seemed like the perfect reason for saving him was because he had already saved me today.

“Yes, I believe we are.” He replied just as coolly, with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He was just as shocked as I was at my hasty reaction to his burning but neither of us were willing to show it.

“Would you like to take a seat so I can tell you the information you require?” He had once again retrieved into being formal and proper. I returned to the seat slowly, unsure if I wanted to hear the information he had to offer. He didn’t care how long I took, he had forever to wait; he was, of course, a vampire.

“Good, now that you are seated we can begin.” He looked at me seriously as if the information he carried could mostly take me to my grave, the look he was carrying scared me and I wasn’t entirely sure I could handle the news he was about to give me.

“But there is something you need to know about your parents first which may help bring this into perspective.” He paused only slight to make sure that I was listening before he continued. “Zafire your parents were Vampires.”
