Chapter 3 – I so did not... what did you say??

“But there is something you need to know about your parents first which may bring this into perspective,” He paused slightly to make sure that I was listening before he continued. “Zafire your parents are vampires.”

“Okay wise guy enough of your tricks.” I was pissed and yelling at this complete stranger. Wait let me rephrase that a complete idiotic stranger. How in the hell-a-bit could my parents be vampires and me be a slayer? It makes absolutely no-sense.

“Ma’am please calm down. I am not fooling you, your parents are vampires.” He stood up, talking calmly to me trying to make me settle and listen to him, again.

“But how can it even be possible? I HATE vampires, I AM a Vampire Slayer and my parents who – mind you I saw be murdered – be vampires?” I asked letting out all of my anger, all of my frustration on this complete, idiotic, handsome stranger.

“It is possible ma’am, although it rarely happens. The thing that made you a slayer when you should have become a vampire is because in your soul - when you saw your parents die – you decided that you would avenge their murders. Therefore your vampiric immortality transformed into a slayer’s immortality within that decision.” He spoke calmly, sure of his word. Looking into his eyes I found the answer there that I did not want to know. They really were vampires and that meant that I was meant to be a vampire. I felt like crying because I didn’t want to know all of this and I hoped that my tears would not spill over and betray me.

“Ma’am, are you okay?” He meant to be comforting but the fact that if either one of us took another step we’d be practically on top of each other did not comfort me in the least.

“I’m fine.” I lied, wiping away the tears that were raining down on my checks.

“I’m sorry I did not mean to upset you.” He told me, placing his cold hand on my check wiping away the tears that had started to fall again. Then somehow he knew exactly what I needed, a friend, a comforter by simply wrapping his arms around me in a bear like hug he took away the alone feeling that had been growing inside of me since the second I lost my mum and dad. He gave me hope again in that single hug and I liked it, a lot and then all too suddenly he held me away looking into my eyes and smiling, laughing.

“You don’t know how much I have missed you Z, just having you close to me fills an empty void within me.” His melodic voice was like a caress to my ear. He missed me, the little boy I use to call my friend? The one I lost because my parents were not happy with his mother’s work for our family?

“It really is you isn’t it Jeremy?” I asked him, I could feel my lips pulling into a smile. He was the next best thing to my parents.
“Who else could I be?” He asked teasingly, moving the hair out of my face smiling at me the whole time.

“I have no idea.” I replied laughing, “But I’m glad that you hunted me down.” I told him, he look into my eyes, his full of unanswered questions as I was sure mine were as well. He pulled away slowly, unsure of his self, not moving his eyes off of me as if he was afraid I might vanish into thin air.

“You realize Z that I am a vampire.” He paused to check that I wasn’t going to freak on him before he continued. “Your parents left me instructions that when I became the age of eighteen I was to be hired under their name to search for you and bring you home.” He told me his voice filled with misery, I put my hand on his face, unsure of where I was about to go with this crazy idea.

“I would follow you to the ends of the earth Jeremy. You needed no instructions from my parents to have that.” I told him, not moving, not blinking waiting patiently for him. Why would I need to hurry when I had an eternity to wait?

“You know that when we get back all eyes will be on you. Your parents were king and queen, and therefore you were the princess and the next heir. Now that you’re a slayer you wouldn’t be trusted on vampire territory.” He told me dead serious, his mood unchanging from this business like trance.

“I understand.” I told him, smiling fully trusting him that everything would be okay.

“There is only one thing I don’t understand?” He told me not pausing long enough for me to answer. “Why would you follow me to the ends of the earth?” He asked smiling shyly. I was still unsure, was it true in my heart or just plain logic in my head?

“Because I love you,” I replied slowly, making sure it had some effect on me said out loud and when I was sure of myself I looked up and saw that his face looked furious. Did I do something wrong?

“You cannot love me. It is forbidden, I can’t expect you to understand the vampire laws yet but soon you will and soon you will not be saying that.” Did I just get turned down? Huh, I never thought love would happen to me and now because – I think – it is, it’s literally like a cold bitch.

“Prepare your things and then get some rest, we will be leaving at first light and I suggest to pack light. Everything you need and want will be provided to you within Celeste’s city.” He told me before he walked away handing towards the front door and then slamming it roughly; Leaving me alone, once again. After stand there for a while, feeling empty as if a huge hunk of my heart was missing I decided that It was best to pack my bags and get ready for tomorrow because we were leaving for Celeste’s city, whoever that is.

Grudgingly I marched up the stairs and into my room, I already having a plan in my mind of what I was going to take with me and got to work, packing the essentials like my IPod, laptop, a couple of favourite books such as Bram Stokers Dracula, The chronicles of Narnia and of course the House of Night series. Plus ten pairs of my favourite jeans, fifth-teen of my favourite tee’s and of course my black chucks. I also pack my toiletry essentials before I changed into some Pj’s and crawled into bed falling into a deep dreamless sleep.

Jeremiah’s P.O.V
She loves me?
No it couldn’t be possible and even if it was, I couldn’t let her know that I loved her too.

Celeste’s – the vampire goddess – city was in need. Something was running around inside of the cities walls terrorizing the citizens. Celeste’s city was meant to be a safe place for vampires to go to and it was now no longer a safe place. I knew that if anybody could get ridden of this menace it was Zafire. Her reputation was outstanding, in the past ten years of being a slayer she had killed over a thousand threats on human kind and now Celeste’s city needed her expertise to make the city safe again.

*Sigh* If only I could let her know how I felt but it was forbidden for anyone to love Celeste’s beloved – which was the princess – and that meant it was forbidden for anyone to love Zafire, the princess, hair and Celeste’s beloved and that meant that I couldn’t love her. However the most upsetting thing was that I did love her and that I loved everything about her, the way her eyes shine, the way she laughs, the fact that she’s a slayer, the list could on for days.

No, I couldn’t love her and I had been trying to tell myself that since the moment I found out that she was still alive. I even loved her as a child, she was just so beautiful.

I needed to call Damien let him know that I had found her and we were heading towards Celeste’s city at first light. I pulled out my I-Phone and pressed the speed dial for Damien’s number, after the third ring he answered.

“Hey Jeremiah, what’s up?” His alpha-voice sounding off through the phone,

“Hey Dame, I found her, she was in Brooklyn. Just letting you know that we are heading back home at first light.” I informed Damien of our plans; it was simply protocol.

“That is good news, good news indeed, well then I will see you in a week’s time. Don’t delay your return though it’s been getting worse, it seems that we have found evidence that it could be a werewolf but we aren’t entirely sure. The carnage is horrible, bodies’ shred to pieces everywhere, intestines on the floors and ravaged bite marks all over the victim’s bodies.” Damien kept up the informative bubble of chatter as my thoughts took me away. I could imagine the scenes before my eyes, entering a victims house and finding their body parts shredded and spread out all over the house. A horror scene fit for the life of a vampire but no one deserved to be treated like that wether we were dead or alive. Some small part of us was still human and it deserved to be – at times – treated like one.

“Okay Damien, we will not hesitate. The people need Celeste’s beloved’s guidance.” I replied before hanging up the phone. There was one other person I needed to call before I entered back into her home. I needed to call Malachi –my best friend – who always had an answer to all of my problems. If anyone could give me guidance and advice for my ‘love life’ it was Malachi. Dialling his number was not a difficult task and it had been repeated so many times that I knew the number off by heart; on the first ring Malachi picked up.

“Hey J! What’s up?”  Malachi’s voice was easy, breezy and care-free. He was always liked that even on a battlefield with the stench off death clinging to our bones.

“Chi, I need your help. You see there’s this girl...” I began to explain my trouble when he laughed and interrupted me.

“Say no more. It’s easy just tell her how you feel.” He didn’t understand what the problem was. I wish I could tell her but she is forbidden for – even me – to love.

“I wish I could Chi but she’s Celeste’s beloved. I am forbidden to love her.” I sighed; I guess it was pointless trying to fight against the surrounding sorrow that wanted to completely fill me.

“Ah, I can see why that would be a problem. Look J, just take your time. See if there is a way around it. Even Celeste would won’t her beloved to be loved by a man. Celeste knows that there is someone for everyone.” He answered. I could hear him sighing too. Malachi wasn’t a vampire, werewolf or slayer, he was a guardian angel. Chosen from amongst all immortals to serve Celeste; he knew the rules and how to skip around them but his job was to serve the goddess. His heart told him his duty was to love Celeste but it was forbidden for that as much as it was forbidden to love Celeste’s beloved. We both had problems and somehow we had to find a way to solve our problems.

“Hey thanks Chi, I’ll talk to you soon. I have to leave for the city at first light.” I told him before I hang up the phone. I needed to wake Zafire and then we were to leave as soon as possible. We had a week’s journey before us before we would reach Celeste’s city and I can assure you it was going to be a very long week.
