Chapter 4 – A Caribbean Cruise for Two
The cities walls were painted with blood and in the courtyard stood a lone wolf, its eyes an eerie yellow and its teeth dripping with blood stared at me. I looked down and saw that I was in nothing but a silky black dress, which flowed down to my knees. My eyes flashed back to the wolf which was slowly walking towards me, I scream but no sound escaped my lips, I watched as the wolf came closer and leaped, closing the space between us, a hungry look flashing through its eyes...
I sat up startled by my dream, my eyes darting from one dark corner to the other dark corner and seeing nothing that was at all harmless to me. My eyes flashed back to the door –which was now open – and Jeremiah was leaning on the door way watching me.
“Get up Z, we’ve got to leave before sunrise.” He watched me as I slowly got out of bed and realized I was wearing the same silky black dress that I had been wearing in my dream. I looked up at Jeremiah again and saw him blush. He cleared his throat as he looked back into my eyes.
“You can take a shower but make sure it’s a quick one.” Was all he said before he walked out of the door.  I sighed, it was such a waste of effort to have told him how I felt yesterday, I could see it in his eyes that he didn’t feel the same about me and the rejection hurt but it was probably better this way cause the only reason he found me was to kill off whatever has been killing the leeches. I got up and walked over to my en-suite to take a quick shower. A few minutes later I got out of the shower and put on the outfit I had assigned for today, a black A7X band tee (which had the death bat on the back), a pair of black skinny jeans, my black chucks and a black jacket which I used in my slayer uniform then I made my way downstairs to eat some breakfast. Before I entered the kitchen I could smell the aroma of freshly cooked eggs and bacon, and there was also a fruity smell on the air as well, I let my nose lead me into the kitchen and saw that Jeremiah was just finishing up with cooking breakfast. On the table sat a single plate consisting of eggs, bacon, pancakes and what seemed to be a strawberry smoothie. Jeremiah turned to look at me and smiled, whole heartedly at me, I returned a weak smile.
“Eat up. We’ve got a big day ahead of us.” He stated as I took a seat at the table and pulled the plate of food towards me, Jeremiah brought a fork and knife over to me and I started eating. Despite the fact that vampires can’t cook, the food was perfectly cooked. Each bite left my tongue in tingles. I ate the bacon and eggs first and finished with the pancakes. When I was done I put down my fork and took a sip of the smoothie and spat it right out. It wasn’t strawberry, I don’t even know what it was but it tasted salty and rusty.
“What is that?” I asked Jeremiah. His eyes widened when he realized what I was talking about.
“That wasn’t for you, Z.” He stated bluntly. He turned away from me again as I narrowed my eyes at the stupid leech.
“Can you just answer my question?” I asked him, malice drenching my words.
“What do you think it was Z?” He replied still not daring to look at me. The only thing that I knew I wouldn’t enjoy and that he would was.... oh gross, stupid leech.
“Look we better get going. We’ve got a long journey ahead of us and its best if we get an early start.” He said as he turned to face me. He face was clean of any emotion as if he felt nothing at all. I stormed out of the room and only stopped when I saw that he was in front of me again, stupid leech!
“Get out of my way Jeremiah.” I practically growled at him. He only stood still and smiled.
“Your stuff’s already in the car. We have to leave now Z.” He looked to the side as if listening out for something. He grabbed my hand then and ran – at vampire speed – out to the car. He shoved me into the passenger’s side and then ran over the other side and started the car. In less than five minutes we had left the house and heading towards the airport.
“What the hell was that about?” I practically screamed at him. His eyes darted from the road to me and then he spoke.
“A werewolf tracked us. He was inside of the house, waiting for you to be alone.” I shuddered at the thought of my dream, the werewolf attacking me and I realized that he had saved me again.
“That’s twice now.” I stated, grateful for my unintended saviour.
“Let’s not go for number three.” He flashed me a dazzling smile as he sped up, he was driving over 200km /h but I didn’t care, I knew that I was safe with him. I tried to think of something, anything to talk about but nothing came. After a while of complete silence, I smelt the saltiness in the air and realized that we were no longer heading towards the airport but towards the docks instead.
“I thought we were catching a plane.” I thought out loud. Jeremy snickered and smiled at me.
“Well were actually catching a cruise. He have to pass through the Caribbean Ocean to get to the portal for vampire country.” He stated clearly as he slowed down a bit so we could park the car... next to a tree? I got out of the car clearly confused why we would have to park so far away and next to a tree as well. Jeremiah got out as well and opened the boot of the car getting out my luggage when he had gotten out my two suitcases and his suitcase he closed the boot and pressed a single button on his car keys. Before my eyes the car shrunk down to a single red briefcase.
“Come on Z, We haven’t got all day.” He stated as he started to make his way down the hill carrying all the luggage. There was nothing for me to carry so I started following after him. The cruise ship wasn’t as far away as it seemed to be up on the hill but it was much larger than it had seemed to be at first. I continued to follow Jeremiah onto the ship where we were greeted by the staff.
“Hello Sir, how can I help you?” A handsome man asked us as we walked up to the front desk.
“Yes I have my tickets here.” Jeremiah said as he handed the man two tickets which seemed to have came out of nowhere.
“Ah yes, Mr Wayland your room is number 425 and it’s on the fourth floor. I hope you enjoy your stay with us.” The man waved us towards an elevator and moved on to the next group of people. Jeremiah and I started walking towards the elevator that we had been directed to and entered the elevator, Jeremiah pressed the level four button and we waited for it to go. He had only gotten us one room; it was an easy thing to understand when vampires hardly slept. We kept on walking until we got to the room numbered 425. Jeremiah pulled out a card for the door’s lock and unlocked the room. I couldn’t believe what I saw. The room was decorated in blue and gold but that isn’t what annoyed me. In the bloody centre of the room there was a heart shaped bed. The room had been decorated in the style of a honeymoon room.
“What the heck Jeremy?” I practically screamed at him. He flinched but didn’t say anything. He put the bags down in front of the cupboard and walked out onto the deck. Yea the heart-shaped bed wasn’t the only feature of the room. There was a en-suite, a little stage with a white grand piano right next to a deck, which was large enough to fit a dozen people on and still have room. I sighed; I wasn’t going to deal with Mr. Mood-Swings over there. I was going to go out to the pool and take a dip, just relax and enjoy the cruise while I still can. I grabbed my bikini set out of my suitcase, changed in the en-suite and then left the room, slamming the door behind me.
Jeremiah’s P.O.V
I sighed, she was mad and frustrated and she had every right to be. I wasn’t talking to her, I was ignoring her even though all I wanted to do was hold her in my arms and tell her that I love her. She couldn’t be allowed to know the truth and it was going to be difficult to keep it from her but I had to at least try. We still had a lot to go through, first we had to take care of whatever has been killing in the kingdom and secondly she had to have her crown restored to her, she to take back her rightful place as heir and rule over the kingdom. That’s the way it was suppose to be and where was I in all of it? Simple, I wasn’t going to be in any of it. I sighed; I wouldn’t be able to get her off of my mind even if I tried. I walked back inside and over to the grand piano and took a seat. I was going to play to cool my thoughts down. It would help, it always did. I sighed again and let the music take me away.
