I woke up groaning. I lifted my good hand to rub my eyes to wipe away the sleep left over. “Good Moring, Charlotte.” I turned my head to look at the doctor as he stood looking at my chart. “Are you comfortable enough?” I blinked at him tiredly.
“She has weird reaction to pain killers. They make her tired.” Kellan said walking into the room drying his hair. “Give her a little bit of time.” I yawned loudly. “She broke her arm when we were kids and had to have surgery on it. It makes her really tired.” Kellan lifted his drink to lips as I took a big sip.
“It doesn’t say in her file she has a reaction to it.” I lifted my hand for the drink for another sip.
“Trust me, she did.” He laughed putting his used towel in the hamper. “I had to carry her to bed a couple times.” I turned my head to look at him.
“Shut up.” I took another large sip.
“How are you feeling, Charlotte?” The doctor smiled at me.
“A little better. I’d love to go home.” My face dropped. I don’t have a home.
“I want to watch the burns on your legs. We’ll re-wrap those before you go.” He looked at the other page on the cart. “But otherwise you should be fine. It turned out your arm isn’t broken. You still have some broken ribs and your shoulder is going to be in a sling for two weeks. Kellan is going to have to take care of you as you are going to be sore.” I looked at Kellan as he took his drink back taking a sip from it. “I’ll be back a little later to look at your burns to see how they are healing.” He put my chart back on the bed before walking out.
“How are you feeling?” He asked leaning forward to stroke my forehead.
“Like a bus hit me.” I gave him a half smile. “Better than a train.”
“That’s good right?” I nodded turning over slowly in bed to face him.
“What am I going to do now?” I asked him softly.
“What do you mean, Char?” Kellan asked leaning forward so our noses were close together.
“Where am I going to live? I don’t own anything. It’s all gone. Everything.” I could feel the tears forming in my eyes.
“Hush baby. You’re going to come live with me. We’ll go buy you clothes and anything else you’re going to need.” He reached out a hand to stroke my cheek. “I told you I was going to take care of you now. I’m going to, no matter what you say.”
“Why?” He stared at me for a moment.
“I thought I was too late. You weren’t moving. You were on fire.” He sighed. “I promised whatever was out there that if you were okay, I’d do everything in my power to protect you. I’d keep you safe and provide for you.” I lifted my hand to stroke his hand over mine.
“We’ll be a family?” He smiled at me.
“We’ll be a big happy family.” He tapped my nose. “Jamie, you, and me all living under the same roof.” I gave him a tired smile.
“I want to see Jamie.” I muttered as the medication started to kick in again making me tired. “Is she okay?” I opened my eyes to look at him.
“She’s perfectly fine. Just missing her Mommy.” He kissed my head. “Get some rest. I’ll wake you up when you’re allowed to leave.” I closed my eyes.
“Thank you.” I fell back into a restless sleep….
“How are you feeling, Sweetheart?” Maddy asked as we walked through the front door of the house later that day.
“Still tired. I hate pain medication.” I yawned as Kellan closed the door behind us.
“We know, but we knew it was better for you while they figured everything out.” She walked over holding Jamie who was fast sleep. My guess it was just after dinner for her.
“You don’t look as pale.” She commented as she pointed to Kellan. “Go order food. There is no food in this house. Go! Charlotte must be hungry.” I smiled at her.
“I’m really okay. I can’t feel my stomach yet.” She frowned.
“Well, you’ll be eating anyway.” She looked me up and down. “You are too skinny. Don’t worry, Baby. We’ll fix that.” She helped me walk into the dining room to sit down. “Let me go put Jamie in her bouncer.” I looked at my baby.
“Can I hold her? Please? I’m okay.” She smiled I took my daughter into my arms cradling her close to me. I only had one arm to hold her so it wasn’t easy if she started moving.
“I thought I wasn’t going to see you again, my beautiful baby.” I watched her sleep peacefully. “I’m sorry I put us into that situation baby. Mommy won’t ever do that again.” She gave a whimper as she had a gas bubble. “Maddy.” I sighed not able to help her. She nodded lifting her up walking out of the room.
“I ordered you your favorite Chinese, Char.” Kellan smiled at me. He sat down next to me putting something on the table.
“What’s this?” I asked him as he pushed it towards me. “Oh Kellan.” I whispered. He had Jamie’s baby book. He kept it.
“I knew you were mad that it went missing. I just I couldn’t give it up.” I turned the pages smiling at all of my pictures that I took when I was pregnant. I smiled at the pictures of when Jamie was born. I turned the next page smiling at all the pictures I had put in. “I don’t remember these.” I said as I turned the page again.
“I put those in.” He smiled at me. They were perfect pictures. Pictures of Jamie and me, Jamie and Kellan, the three of us, even just Kellan and me. “I had help putting them in from Mom so they looked nice.” I smiled at him.
“I love them.” I laughed at the one when Kellan changed Jamie’s first diaper. His face was priceless, just like this picture. I felt the tears coming on.
“What’s wrong?” Kellan asked as I wiped my eyes.
“I thought I lost this in the fire.” Kellan leaned over to kiss my head. “Thank you for stealing it, it means now it’s safe. It can live another day.” I smiled at him.
“I ordered food, it should be here soon.” Maddy walked back in and sat down.
“Have you two talked yet?” I blinked.
“Talk about what?”
“Where you are going to live?” Kellan nodded.
“Charlie is going to move back in with me.” He beamed at her his eyes shining.
“Are you two back together?” She asked looking between the two of us. I looked at Kellan.
“Yeah, I think we are.” I smiled at him as he gave me a breath taking a smile. I knew I said the right thing. That smile made my heart beat faster. I blushed looking down.
“Well it’s good to see you two back with each other. I wish it didn’t take a near death experience to do it.” Kellan took my hand in his.
“What matters is we are together now.” He said clearing his throat to his mother. “Where’s Dad?” He asked lifting my hand to kiss it.
“He’s on his way. He should be here soon. We’ll stay tonight to help with Jamie. Tomorrow Colin will be here in the morning.”
“My Mom’s coming here?” I asked looking at her. She nodded.
“Charlotte, any mother would fly out to come see her baby. She was going to fly out the second we called her to say you were in the hospital, but Kellan talked her into postponing it till tonight. You dad wanted to come too but they both couldn’t take off, he thought it would be better if she came. He sends his love.”
“I’ll call him later.” I smiled. The door opened making all of us look at the front door.
“Foods here.” Bob called walking into the dining room. “Good to see you, Charlotte.” He kissed my head putting the bag on the table. “Let’s eat!” Dinner went quickly with me eventually pulling on Kellan’s shirt.
“What’s wrong, Sweetheart?” He asked looking down at me as his parents cleaned up for us.
“I smell like a camp fire.” He ran a hand through my hair.
“I love camp fires.” He whispered breathing in my hair.
“I need to bathe.” I said softly as his fingers ran down my neck making my head go back and a moan to catch in my throat.
“Do you want me to get my Mom to help you?” I shook my head putting my hand in his shirt.
“I want you to help me.” I felt a little stirring against my leg. He kissed me.
“Go up to our room and I’ll be right up.” I nodded walking up the stairs walking into the master bedroom and sitting on the bed. I smiled at the picture of the three of us sitting on his nightstand. It wasn’t professional it was just a picture Ella took the time she met Jamie.
“It’s my favorite picture.” Kellan smiled walking in. “Come on, in the bathroom to clean you up.” I pulled off my sling and made my way into the bathroom.
“How’s the arm?” He asked as he turned the water on. I moved my shoulder gently wincing.
“Sore, but I’ve dislocated it before.” I shook my head. “You remember that? I feel out of that tree.” He smiled at me as he pulled his shirt off.
“I remember I had to carry you to the house as you cried.” He walked over to me as he gently pulled my shirt off. He kissed me.
“I love you.” He sighed pulling at my sweatpants, taking my underwear with it. I bit my lip as he looked up at from my ankles as I was naked as the day I was born. I watched Kellan’s Adam’s apple bob up and down as he swallowed. “Into the bath.” He helped me into the steaming water.
“Are you going to join me?” I bit my lip looking up at him.
“Yeah, if you want.” He pulled down his jeans getting into the bath with me. He pulled me close to him gently wetting my hair. I moaned as Kellan rubbed shampoo into my hair. “You shouldn’t make noises like that.” He whispered nipping at my ear.
“But you have magic fingers.” I smiled leaning against him putting my lower half in his lap.
“You’re sick Charlotte, we shouldn’t be doing this.” He whispered as I moved gently rubbing my throbbing skin against his slick hardness with the lubricant of the water.
“I’m on enough pain medication not to feel it.” I giggled as he moved his hand between my legs to grab himself.
“Just this once, then just healing.” His breathing was rapid as his rubbed himself up and down the junction between my legs making me gasp. “Promise?”
“I promise.” I mutter breathlessly as he strokes in making me grip his arm with my good hand.
