I blushed looking down. “What?” I asked him.
“Nothing. Come on tell me about yourself.” I looked at him cocking my head to the side.
“Like what?” I smiled at him. He shrugged.
“I don’t know. Anything.” I gave him a thoughtful look.
“Let’s play the Favorite Game.” Tucker looked at me in confusion.
“What’s the Favorite Game?” I smiled at the waiter as he put down our sodas.
“It’s kind of like I would ask a question and you would answer it. Then you will ask me a question and I’ll answer it.” He took a sip of his drink.
“What kind of questions?”
“Like what’s your favorite movie?” He nodded.
“Alright what’s your favorite movie?” I laughed at him for being creative. “Come on what’s your favorite movie?” I gave him a thoughtful look.
“I’m not sure. I’m a fan of comedy so some of the newer movies I guess. But my all-time favorite has to be The Lion King.” He smiled at me. “What?” He shook his head.
“Nothing. You’re just different.”
“Different how?” He shrugged.
“You’re just not like all the other girls I have ever know at our age. You’re real. Not fake. And you really know how to have a good time.” I blushed and bit my lip. I didn’t know what to say.
“Uh what’s your favorite movie?”
“The Blind Side.” He said before clearing his throat as if he’s embarrassed.
“I love that movie.” I smiled at him. He looked up at me before smiling. “I think it’s cute.” He rubbed the back of his neck before smiling at the waiter who put down our pizza. “Okay my turn. What do you want to do when you graduate high school?” He took a piece of pizza and put it on his plate. He looked up at me.
“I’m not sure yet. I want to play football but I want to have a career as a backup if that doesn’t work out.” I took a piece for myself. “What about you?”
“I’m not really sure.” I said taking a bite of my pizza.
“We have some time to worry about it.” He smiled at me putting his hand over mine. “Come on my turn to ask a question. What’s your favorite color?” I looked up at him.
“Blue.” I said quietly. I looked up at him as he smiled at me gently. “You?”
“Orange and green.” I raised my eyebrows at him. “What?”
“Why?” He shrugged.
“I have no idea. I just love them.” I smiled at him as I finished off my pizza. Tucker flagged down the waiter. “Can I have the check please?” The waiter nodded and handed him the check before smiling and winking at me. I pulled a face at him before Tucker cleared his throat at him.
“I will take that when you’re done.” The waiter winked at me one more time before leaving. I looked at Tucker as he shook his head before yanking his wallet out of his pocket throwing down the money that was needed. I put my hand over his. He smiled at me as he stood up taking my hand into his before putting his arm around my waist.
“Come on.” He smiled as we walked out of the restaurant.
“So what do we do know?” I smiled at him as we started to walk down the board walk again.
“You want to go watch a movie?” He asked looking up at the movie theater in front of us. I smiled at him.
“I would love to.” He pulled me into the theater and up to the ticket booth.
“What do you want to see?” He asked looking at the movie board.
“Oh let’s see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Oh please can we Tucker?” He looked at me. “Please?” He looked at the old looking woman who was smiling at us.
“Two tickets to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, please.” She smiled at him.
“16. 50 please.” He gave her a 20 dollar bill. “3.50 is your change.” She gave him the tickets. “You two are very cute together.” I blushed and looked down.
“Thank you.” He smiled taking his change and the ticket. “Have a great night.” She nodded.
“You two. Enjoy your movie.” Tucker pulled me to him kissing my head as we walked into the theater. I looked up at him at he smiled down at me. I pressed my lips to his.
“Thank you.” I whispered against his lips. He smiled pulling me towards the 4 theater where the movie was playing.
“I’m just happy you’re having fun.” He pressed his lips to my neck making me give a quiet giggle. “I’m having the time of my life.” He whispered onto my neck. I blushed. “I love it when you blush.” He laughed moving back to look at me.
“Stop I’m going to look like a tomato soon.” I put my hands over my face to hide it.
“Don’t hide come on.” He laughed as I moved to him burying my hand covered face into his chest. “Come on Carson.” He smiled leaning his head down to whisper into my hair.
“No I’m a red tomato.” I mumbled into his chest.
“I like red tomatoes.” He whispered laughing.
“No.” I laughed as he wrapped his arms around me holding me to him.
“Come on please. I won’t laugh at you.”
“I promise I won’t laugh at you my little tomato.” I looked up at him moving my face from his shirt as the lights in the theater started to dim for the movie. “See, I’m not laughing. You are beautiful.” He whispered kissing me as the previews started. I turned to look at the screen not moving from Tucker’s arms….
After the movie we decided to take a walk on the beach. I had my sandals in my hands as I walked barefoot. Tucker had his sneakers and socks in his shoes and was holding them as we walked on the empty beach with the only light from the moon and the lights from the boardwalk in the distance. It was beautiful out. “This is amazing.” I whispered looking at the water with the reflection of the moon on the water.
“It’s nothing compared to you.” He smiled at me. I blushed biting my lip looking down. “I got you to blush again.”
“Shut up.” I whispered rubbing the back of my neck.
“Carson.” Tucker asked after a moment of comfortable silence.
“Yeah?” I asked looking at him.
“Why do you always wear your hair up?”
“I don’t always wear my hair up…” I shrugged.
“I have only seen you with your hair down once. That once is now.” I looked out into the water.
“I guess I am really just used to having to put it up that I don’t put it down anymore. Your sister just about ripped me a new one for it.” I pulled at a loose piece of hair.
“I think it looks beautiful down.” He smiled at me. I smiled at him as e continued to walk on the beach before turning back to walk back towards the boardwalk after getting about a mile or two away from it.
“Carson?” I looked at him. “Why don’t think it’s okay to cry?” I shrugged feeling like a weight was just put on my chest.
“I guess I was just raised where it’s a weakness. It’s a weakness to show emotion to anyone but yourself. It’s not something you should show to everyone. My mom always told me when I was a kid that I would never get anywhere if I cried. She would always make me pay every time I so as much shed a tear. I just gave up fighting.”
“Why?” I looked at him.
“It wasn’t worth it. All that came from it was pain. I just wanted her like me. What girl doesn’t want her Mom to care?” I shook my head. “I gave up on fighting. I gave up on acting. I just sat there. I didn’t do what she wanted so she just rid of me. Sent me to boarding school.” Tucker looked at me.
“Wow. I’m.” I shook my head making him trail off.
“I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” I looked up at the sky and jumped as the sound of thunder clapped around up. “I hate thunder.” I gasped. Tucker pulled me closer to him as we got onto the boardwalk and ran to the house as it started to rain. We walked into house as everyone was walking a movie.
“Did you two youngsters have fun?” Ben asked from the couch.
“Yeah we did.” Tucker smiled. I smiled back before walking put stairs to get into my pajamas to watch the movie with the others….
I woke up as a loud clap of thunder clapped making me jump out of bed as the whole room lit up with the lightning. I got out of bed as another clap of thunder and lightning struck. I walked to Tucker’s room down the hall. “Tucker.” I whispered at his sleeping form. “Tucker.” I whispered again. Tucker groaned and leaned up to look at me.
“Carson? What’s wrong?” I looked down at my feet.
“Can I come sleep in here?” I asked quietly. Just as he opened his mouth to answer another loud clap of thunder and lightning struck again making me jump and walk closer towards him scared almost to tears.
“Hey, hey, hey it’s okay, come here.” He lifted the blanket for me. I crawled under the blanket as he wrapped me in his blanket and his arms. “It’s okay. I’ll protect you from the thunder and lightning.” He whispered at me. I held him close as the lightning struck again following by thunder.
“I’m scared.” I whispered as he kissed my head.
“Just try to go to sleep. I’ll keep you safe.” He whispered again as exhaustion started to take over as I listened to his heartbeat next to my ear as if it was a lullaby.
