Chapter Eighteen

I laid my head down on my towel sighing to myself as the sun warmed my back. I closed my eyes listening to the sound of the ocean. I felt hands on my back making me jump and turn to look at Tucker. He had his towel right next to mine. He smelled fresh and clean as he leaned over me rubbing at my warm skin. “You smell nice.” I smiled as I turned to look at him.

“Oh thank you.” He smiled leaning down to lie on my back. “You smell great too baby.” He laid his head on my shoulder. “Are you sticky?” He whispered into my ear making me blush.

“Not that I know of at the moment but I think it’s drying at the moment.” I turned to look at him giggling. He smiled leaning to kiss me.

“You kind of smell of it too.” He whispered making me roll onto my back onto his towel making him fall onto my towel.

“Shush.” I giggled at him as he rubbed his chest.

“Ouch.” He whined at me rolling onto his side. “That hurt baby.” He pouted at me. I put my arms around his neck.

“I’m sorry baby.” I pouted at him as he pulled me closer to him. I kissed the hollow of his neck.

“I guess I can forgive you. Only because I love you.” He smiled hold me to him. I snuggled closer to him sighing.

“What’s wrong?” Tucker whispered pulling back to look at me. I shrugged pulling my arms from around his neck.

“Nothing.” I shrugged moving to run a hand through my hair.

“What the hell happened?” He asked grabbing my hand.

“Ouch!” I winced as he grabbed my hand.  He turned my hand to look at the bruising skin.

“What did you do?” He asked me running his fingers over my purple knuckles.

“I don’t know.” I shrugged pulling my hand back. “Maybe you’re seeing things?” It should have been a statement but no. I made it a question. Silly me.

“Carson,” He said sitting up. “What happened? How could have happened in the 10 minutes I was in the shower?”

“It was a small thing, ya’ know. It was a simple little thing that doesn’t need to be relived.” He shook his head pulling me up to sit next to him.

“I’m serious Carson. Who did you punch?” I sighed rubbing my hand over my strained hand.

“Just some asshole who was hitting on me.” Tucker raised his eye brow at me. “He wouldn’t stop. He got what he deserved.” Tucker pulled me to him.

“I wish I was there to help you.” He sighed putting his head on top of mine.

“I can handle myself Tucker.” I cuddled closer to him closing my eyes.

“I know you can baby. I just want to be there to protect you. It’s like it’s my job.” I turned to look up at him raising my eye brows. “That’s not what I meant Carson. I just want you to be happy. I love you.” I said sighing moving back into a fetal position on his chest.

“I know.” I closed my eyes again. “I love you too.” Tucker put his chin on my head again.

“So you going to tell me what he looks like so I can find him and knock him out?” I shook my head.

“Nope sorry.” I smiled making him fall back holding me close.

“Why not?” He whispered into my hair.

“Because I don’t want you to know.” I sighed leaning on his chest to look up at him. He sighed making my head move as well.

“Fine. I’ll get it out of you soon.” He smiled pulling me up to kiss my forehead.

“Sure, sure. Whatever you say.” I smiled at him as we laid in the sun together……

I was curled up under the covers my arms under my pillow holding it to my face as I slept next to Tucker. I felt someone jump on me making me groan and bury my face in the pillow. “Wake up! Wake up!” Nic yelled on top of me.

“Go away.” I groaned at her moving my head under the pillow.

“Never!” She yelled at me happily. “Get up it’s your birthday!” I moved my hand to slap at her. “Wakey, wakey birthday girl!”

“Go away!” I moaned at her. She pulled my blanket off me.

“Get up!”

“Carson Ginger Collins get your ass up! We have a busy day planed!”

“I don’t want to.”

“Tucker help me here.” Nic sighed turning to look at her brother. He looked up from the pillow.

“Why would I help you? I want to sleep.” He smiled at her. She smacked his bare back. “Alright, alright. I’ll wake her up. What for?”

“It’s the 4th of July! We’re going to school today for the party.” Nic shook me making me slap at her again. “And it’s this one’s 18th birthday.” I held the pillow to my head.

“I’ll get her up and dressed.” Tucker nodded as Nic got off me.

“You better. I mean it we have to leave soon.” Tucker nodded as she left the room. He pulled me to him as I curled up on him.

“You have to wake up Baby.” He whispered rubbing my back.

“I’m tired.” I moaned at him. He took the pillow off my head stroking my hair.

“I know baby but we have to get going okay?” I turned to look at him. “I’m sorry I kept you up last night.” I rubbed my tired eyes and looked at the clock.

“It’s only 7 o’clock?” I moaned at him. “I want to sleep.” I fell back on my bed pulling the covers over my head.

“I know baby. Come on. You can sleep in the car.” I sighed pulling the comforter off my body. Tucker rubbed his head before walking out to get changed himself as I pulled off my t-shirt and slipped on a bra. I pulled out an old USMC t-shirt from my Dad as I pulled out some jean shorts that go just above my knees. I pulled on an old hat before pulling on a bracelet my Dad gave me last year saying I was his Marine Corps Princess. “You ready?” I nodded tiredly picking up my green rubber bracelet slipping it on my other wrist. I slipped my iPhone into my pocket and turned to look at Tucker. He was dressed in a simple blue t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans.

“I’m tired.” I pouted at him. He pulled me to him kissing my head.

“I know baby. When we get in the truck you can sleep.” I nodded as he took my hand pulling me down stairs.

“Carson this came for you.” I rubbed my eyes to look at the beautiful bouquet of yellow flowers. I walked up to it flowers and pulled the card from inside the flowers.

Happy Birthday my Love.

“Well? Who’s it from?” I looked at Nic before looking at Tucker. He smiled at me.

“Happy Birthday Baby.” He whispered kissing me.  “Do you like them?” I ran my fingers over a daffodil smiling to myself.

“I love them.” I kissed him. “Thank you.”

“Oh aren’t you a little sweetheart?” Nic giggled at her brother as a blush crept up his neck.

“Oh look at you blush.” I smiled at him.

“I’m not blushing.” He said covering his neck making Nic and I start to laugh.

“Yeah right. And Bobs my uncle.” Nic laughed at him. I wrapped my arms around him and smiled.

“Don’t we have to go somewhere?” Tucker said nervously as he blushed again.

“Yeah we should get going. Let me go get the guys.” Nic said running upstairs. Tucker turned to me. I smiled at him before yawning. He picked up one of the flowers snapping the long stew on it and wiping the water off. He moved my hair behind my ear to put the flower into my hair. I smiled up at him as he leaned down to kiss me.

“I love daffodils.” I smiled at him. “Why’d you choose daffodils?” Tucker shrugged.

“The woman at the flower shop said it meant ‘you're the only one’ and ‘the sun is always shining when I'm with you’. I thought it was perfect.” He pressed his lips to my head.

“They are perfect.” I sighed wrapping my arms around him. “Just like you.” Tucker held me close to him as my phone rang. “Who is it?” He asked as I pulled my phone out of my pocket.

“It’s Sarah.” I said hitting answer as I walked outside the house closing the door behind me…
