I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock on the nightstand. 5.30. I got out of bed before walking over to Nic’s bed and pulling the blanket off her. “Get up lazy ass.” I smacked her in her leg.

“No. 5 more minutes.” She groaned rolling over putting her head under her pillows.

“No come on get your lazy ass up.” I laughed yanking on her foot making her fall right out of the bed with a clunk.

“Alright I’m up.” She moaned sitting up reaching her hand up for me to help her up. I helped her up as she rubbed her butt. “Was that really necessary?” She asked groaning. I nodded.

“Come on get dressed Nic we have to go soon.” She nodded throwing her pillow at me before moving over to her dresser. I walked over to my bag pulling out a clean pair of jeans and a clean t-shirt. I would put on a new bra before we left for California. I pulled off my t-shirt and slipped on the new one before slipping off my pants and pulling on the clean jeans. I made my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth and though my hair into a pony tail again.

“Oh good Carson you’re up!”I looked up at Mrs. Brown.

“Yeah I was just getting ready to drive y’all to the airport.” I smiled at her.

“Good, good.” She smiled at me bending down to get everything they will need for their vacation.

“If you don’t mind me asking what are you three going to do when the cruise is over? Seeing as it is only a two week cruise and summer is 8.” I shuffled nervously from one foot to another. She smiled at me.

“Well after the cruise she is doing 2 weeks of day camp while Taylor and I work. Then after that 3 weeks of sleep away camp.”

“Then you’re coming to the beach house right?”

“Yes then we will be at the beach house.” She nodded.

“I’ll meet you downstairs in 10 minutes to go so we can get you to the airport in time.” I nodded walking out of the bathroom my tooth brush in hand.

“Alright sweetheart.” I walked out of the bathroom and back into the bedroom to see Nic lying on her bed fast asleep in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I grabbed hold of her ankles and pulled her off the bed in one fast movement laughing as she yelled at the impact of her body on the ground.

“Get up!” I laughed at her as she went to kick me.

“You bitch.” She groaned.

“You should have stayed awake and I wouldn’t have had too.” She punched me as I laughed walking out of the room. “Be down stairs in 5 minutes.” I heard her groan as I went down the stair. Mr. Brown smiled at me.

“Good morning Carson.”

“Morning Mr. Brown. Did you sleep well?” I asked lifting up one of their bags to help take it to the car.

“I did. You ready to go to the beach house today?” I smiled at him.

“I haven’t been to a real beach in a while. School is amazing but sometimes you just need to get out.” He nodded.

“That’s why my wife wanted you to come with Nicole and Tucker to it.” He put his arm around my shoulders as we made our way out to the car putting the bags in back.

“I guess. I just guess I’m used to people really caring for me like her. Sure I have the drill instructors and the commander there for me and my friends but I never had someone force me to go on vacation with their kids.” I laughed at him as we went back in to the house to get the last bags.

“My wife can be annoying at times but she has a heart of gold.” He smiled closing the trunk.

“She does.” I smiled to myself as we walked back into the house to see Mrs. Brown and Nic standing and talking.

“Good Taylor go get Dakota and put her in the car so we can get going.” He nodded going up the stairs while Mrs. Brown and Nic turned to look at me.

“So Carson I heard you only have one bag of clothes.” Mrs. Brown said looking at me as Nic looked around. I sighed.

“Yes Ma’am.” She nodded looking at Nic. “But Nic had my lap top in her bag.”

“Mom she has like no clothes.” Nic said looking at me then her mom.Mrs. Brown looked at me. She looked at Mr. Brown as he came down the stairs with a sleeping Dakota in his arms.

“Well I guess we will have to change that than.” She shrugged looking at me. I looked down almost embarrassed at how little clothes I have. “Nicole you and Carson will have to go clothes shopping when you get to California.”

“Really?” I asked looking at her. She nodded.

“Yes you will be. I will not have you living with my kids in barley enough clothes to get you through the week. I will not have that happening under my roof.” I nodded smiling weakly at her.

“We should get on the road so we don’t miss our flight.” Mr. Brown said as he carried Dakota out and putting her into the car. I nodded walking out behind him waiting for Nic so I could get into the car. She did getting into the middle of the seat before me so I would get in closing the door. We got to the airport in time as Mr. Brown pulled up to the front of the airport. I got out as Mr. Brown hugged Nic goodbye while Mrs. Brown woke up Dakota. “Come here Carson.” I walked over to him as he hugged me. “Your part of this family now whether you like it or not.” He laughed as I smiled at him.

“Have a safe trip.” He nodded.

“You too. Don’t let my son and his friends bug you.” He patted my back. “You have my permission to smack them if you need to.”

“Don’t worry Dad we will.” Nic laughed. Dakota walked over rubbing her eyes right into her Dad as he picked her up.

“We should get going now.” Mrs. Brown said looking at us. Nic hugged her.

“Safe trip Mom.” She kissed her head.

“I will. Same to you.” She turned to me. I hugged her making her smile.

“Thank you for everything Leila.” She patted my back.

“Don’t worry Carson. As Taylor said, you’re part of the family.”

“Speaking of Family…” We all looked at Mr. Brown as he shoved his hand into his pocket and pulled out a pair of keys. “You two can take the jeep so you don’t have to take the SUV.” He handed me the keys.

“Wow, Dad thanks.” Nic smiled as I put the keys in my pocket.

“Don’t worry. You will save money on gas.” He nodded smiling at the two of us.

“And speaking of money here.” Mrs. Brown handed me a black credit card.

“You sure Ma’am?” I asked looking at it in disbelief.

“I’m sure. You all will need the money for food and everything. Don’t worry about it. There isn’t really a limit just don’t spend too, too much.” I nodded.

“I won’t Ma’am. I promise.” I put the card into my pocket.

“And Nicole don’t forget to buy Carson new clothes and shoes if you have to. And if you need new clothes get some new clothes for you too.” Nic nodded.

“I won’t forget Mom. Have fun.” Mrs. Brown hugged Nic one last time before turning to me. She hugged me.

“Have fun Carson.” I smiled letting go of her.

“I will.” I nodded. Mr. Brown looked at his watch.

“We should get going so we don’t miss our flight.” Mrs. Brown nodded as they took the bags out of the trunk and made their way into the airport. I looked at Nic.

“I’m driving.” I laughed as she groaned as I made my way into the driver’s seat taking my wallet out of the back and slipping the credit card into it. “You want to buy some bagels before get back to your house?” She looked at me.

“Yeah we should. I’m hungry.” I pulled out of the airport and onto the high way as Nic plugged in her iPod so we could listen to some good music.

“What happened last night?” I asked after we were driving for a while.

“Nothing big. We were watching the movie last night and you fell asleep on my brother.” She shrugged.

“Yeah I know that I remember it. I mean after I fell asleep.” She laughed.

“Tucker carried you up to bed.” She looked at me. “If it wasn’t my brother I would have thought it was pretty cute.” I could feel myself start to blush as she laughed at me. “Oh you are so red.” I kept my eyes on the road as I pulled into a bagel shop.

“Shut up.” I groaned as we walked in.

“What do you want?”She asked as I cocking my head to the side looking at the menu.

“We should get a dozen and bring some home for your brother and his friends.” She sighed giving me a disappointed look.

“Do we have to?” I looked at her raising my eye brows at her. “Fine.” I looked over at the menu again.

“Can I help you?” I looked at the guy behind the counter. I looked at Nic.

“Can I get 2 French toast, 4 plain, 2 cinnamon raisins, and 4 everything bagels?” He nodded.

“A dozen bagels is 18 dollars. Do you want anything else?” I put a tub of cream cheese and a tub of butter on the counter making him put the tubs into the price. “That will be 23.45 please.”

“Can I have cream cheese on the French toast bagel?” He nodded telling the person who was putting our bagels into a brown bag.

“On both of them please?” He nodded as I handed him the credit card to pay for it. He gave it back to me before going to help the next person. We waited for a couple of minutes before he handed us the bag.

“Thank you.” I smiled at him taking it from his as we walked back to the car. I threw Nic’s bagel at her as I got into the car turning it on and buckling my seatbelt. I pulling out of the parking lot and made my way back to Nic’s house.
