I snuggled up to Finn as he pulled the blanket over our naked bodies. “You never seize to amaze me.” He smiled holding me close. I yawned smiling at him.
“Why?” He looked down at me.
“Why you amaze me?” I nodded. “Well, because you just do.” He picked up the dog tags that hung around my neck, fingering the letters on them. “You are just like no one I have ever met.” He dropped them so they slipped back in between my breasts.
“We just had sex in my Grandparents house.” I wrinkled my nose making him laugh. “Isn’t there something morally wrong with that?” I asked sitting up pulling the quilt around me as I walked to my dresser.
“Not to a Marine, Baby. We are just horny dogs that always want it.” I rolled my eyes pulling on some pajamas.
“What am I getting myself into then?” I giggled as he sat up.
“The time of your life.” He laughed to himself. I laid back down as Finn got up. “Do you mind if I go take a shower?” He asked kissing my head.
“No go ahead. I think I’m going to take a nap anyway.” He smiled smugly making me smack his arm. “Don’t give me that look.”
“It’s just a boost to my ego.” He pulled on his shorts that were lying next to the bed. I rolled my eyes at him as I pulled my blanket up and closed my eyes.
“Your ego is big enough.” I giggled at him as he left the room and I slipped into a light sleep…
I could feel someone’s fingers running down the side of my face. I knew it was Fin by the trail of flames that followed. I groaned waking up. “I’m sorry.” Finn whispered. I whimpered moving into his chest to cover my face. “I didn’t mean to wake you up. You looked so peaceful.” I pulled back to look at him rubbing my eyes. “You have the face that makes me just want to run my fingers over it.” I grunted, pulling the covers over my head.
“What time is it?” I yawned pulling back to look at him.
“A little after 7.” I rubbed my eyes putting my hand back onto his chest.
“I’m still tired.” I sighed looking up at him. “Emotionally, mentally, and physically.” I watched as he smirked at the last one. His smile was gone though when his fingers ran over the bruise on my cheek. “I’m tired of dealing her, Finny. I’m tired of the nightmares.” I looked away from him and out of the window in my room. “I just want to start over, away from the people that hurt me. But it’s like it will never happen.” Finn kissed my head.
“It will get better. Trust me, it always does.” I shook my head.
“I don’t think it ever will.” I sighed snuggling my face into his arm. We just laid there in silence till there was a knock at the door. I looked over to see my Grandfather.
“We got take-out.” I nodded sitting up. “Come on down.” I ran a hand through my hair as Finn got up as well.
“Come on, you need something to eat.” Finn said pushing me gently off the bed to get me onto my feet. My mind was elsewhere, and he knew it. We went downstairs to see my grandparents taking out Asian take-out from a bag. I sat at the table to rustle Matty’s hair.
“Sissy no. Not the hair.” He huffed at me smacking at my hand. I laughed at him stealing a chip off of his table. “Annie!” He said in shock as I put the chip into my mouth.
“Too bad.” I smiled as Finn helped bring the food over.
“Nana!” He yelled as I took another sticking my tongue out at him.
“Stop it you two.” She laughed at us handing me the bag of chips. “You already fight like brother and sister.” Matty glared at me as I shoved a chip into my mouth and chewed loudly.
“Eat your food, both of you.” Finn stole the bag from me and ate one.
“Meany butt!” I glared at him, just like Matty did me.
“You deserve it.” Matty giggled eating a piece of chicken our Grandmother put on his plate.
“Chew with your mouth shut, Squirt.” I said shaking my head. Children these days.
“Here, Ana.” Finn handed me the containers of food.
“Will you be sleeping over tonight, Finnley?” My grandfather asked as he sat down.
“I would like to if that’s okay with you. I’m not on duty for a couple days, so I wanted to spend it with Ana.” He smiled at me making me blush bright red.
“I know you Marines like the back of my hand. You are all the same.” My Grandmother giggled. “You are more than welcome to stay here with us.” I sank in my chair as my Grandfather started to laugh. I cannot believe they are talking about my sex life at the dinner table. I looked at Matty as he ate oblivious to the conversation.
“Thank you, Ma’am.” He smiled rubbing my leg under the table. I blushed grabbing my drink and taking a gulp.
“You chose such a good man, Ana.” My Grandmother giggled as I put my hands over my face.
“Grandma!” I can’t lush anymore; I’ll be lite on fire. I can’t do it anymore.
“Nancy, leave the poor girl alone.” Grandpa laughed as I put my head on the table.
“Can we not?” I groaned pushing my plate away. I looked up at them as they smiled.
“Alright, we’ll leave you alone.” Grandma smiled.
“I’m tired anyway. I think I’m going to take a shower and crash for the night. School is exhausting.” I stood up picking up my plate.
“Aw, don’t go. We’re done talking about it.” She pouted at me.
“I really do need a shower. Thank you for dinner.” I smiled walking into the kitchen to put the plate into the dishwasher.
“I’ll be up soon.” Finn said as I walked up the stairs. I put some new pajamas in the bathroom as I got into the shower. I almost moaned as the hot water splashed onto my back. I stood under the water for a good five minutes before moving. “Enjoying your shower?” Finn’s voice made me jump.
“You scared me!” I said pulling back the curtain to look at him. He smirked at me pulling off his shirt.
“You were all zoned out.” He laughed walking into the shower with me. “I was going to jump in here and make you jump even more.”
“You’re a meanbutt.” I sighed putting my head on his chest.
“I thought it would have been amusing.” He picked up my body washed and put it onto the wash cloth I brought in with me. “You would have done it to me.” He smiled rubbing it down my back.
“Yeah probably.” I sighed in content. This was just perfect, soothing.
“Don’t fall asleep on me.” He whispered into my ear making me open my eyes to look at him. “I don’t want to dress you up.” He kissed my neck. “I really only like undressing you.”
“I’m too tired.” I smiled to myself. “Before we waste all the water.” I leaned over to turn the water off. “I’ll meet you in bed?” I stepped out wrapping myself in a towel and handing him one too.
“Sure.” He kissed me wrapping the towel around his lower body. “I’ll be waiting.” I dried myself quickly pulling on my pajamas.
“Good Night, Honey.” Grandpa said walked out of Matty’s room.
“G’night.” I nodded back to him walking into my room. “Scooch over.” I laid down next to Finn and pushed him towards the wall, making room for myself.
“Hey, I was comfortable.” He feigned anger before pulling me onto his chest. “You look tired.” He said pushing the wet hair out of my face.
“I am. I could sleep for a week right now.” I sighed leaning over his to turn off the lamp.
“Get some sleep, Ana. I’ll be here when you wake up.” He kissed my head.
“Promise?” I yawned pulling back to snuggle my pillow. Finn turned around to spoon me.
“I promise.” He said breathing in the smell of my shampoo. “So sleep, so I can fight away your nightmares.” I listened to the sound of his breathing as if it was my lullaby lulling me to sleep….
“Ana, wake up.” I shook my head shoving my head into the pillow trying to fall back to sleep. “Ana, up and at ‘em.” I smacked at Finn not wanting to get to the stage where I couldn’t go back to sleep, something I learned the hard way with Ryder.
“We have to get going or we’ll be late.” My Grandfather’s voice was hushed as he stood in the open door way. I ignored them going back into my dream land, my actually happy dream. I was vaguely aware of being lifted out of the warmth of my covers. I whimpered as I felt my shirt being pulled off.
“I know, Baby, but we have to get going. I’m going to help.” Finn soothed me gently helping me into my bra and a t-shirt. “I already picked it all out and after we’re going to go somewhere, just me and you.” I laid my head on his shoulder going back to sleep. “Up we go.” He whispered lifting me as he pulled my pants off and shorts on.
“I’m tired, Finny.” I mumbled as he put a bracelet on me. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he lifted me up.
“I know.” He kissed my head.
“What time is it?” I asked him as he walked out of my room, me in his arms.
“Do you have her shoes?” My grandmother asked.
“Yeah, they’re already in the car. Matty ready?” Finn whispered. I was only half paying attention still half asleep.
“He’s sleeping in the car. Greg put him in before. He sleeps like the dead.” She smiled petting my hair.
“She’s just exhausted.” He said back to her as she opened the car door and putting me into the middle seat.
“We still have the whole car ride. Let her sleep.” He got in next to me. I leaned my head on his shoulder and slipped back into the warm darkness of sleep….
“Ana, wake up.” I blinked rubbing my eyes to the bright lights around me. “Baby, you need to wake up now.” I looked up at Finn.
“Where are we?” The last thing I remember was being in the car.
“The airport. Your grandparents have a surprise for you.” I looked at him confused the fogginess of sleep still clouding my head.
“Matty who’s that?” My grandfather pointed to a crowd of people getting off a plate and coming out of the gate. Matty looked over to the group and gasped.
“Daddy!” He screamed running over to the group and jumping into Danny’s arms. I didn’t even notice him as he came out with a group of other people, even when he was in his camouflage uniform. I stared at him, the father that I’ve known for only a short period of time, as he hugged Matty tightly.
“Go, Ana.” Finn whispered. I stood up staring at him. Everyone in the airport was watching us. Danny put Matty down and opened his arms to me. I broke into a run jumping into my father’s arms holding him tight. He’s finally home.
