I looked back at Conrad before looking at Taylor. “I….Taylor….he’s…” The door knocked making both Taylor and I look over as Fin stared up at me holding his raggedy Gator.

“Miss Williams?” Dr. Halter said walking into the room slowly. He looked at Taylor then back at me.

“Yes?” I asked moving Fin up on the bed as Conrad crawled unevenly over my legs.

“We have some on you – Uh. Well.” He stopped talking for a minute catching his thoughts. “How about I just show you?” He moved out of the way of the door to show the Sheriff walking in with Derek in hand cuffs.

“Miss Williams do you know this man?” I nodded instantly.

“Derek what’s…what’s going on here?”  He shook his head at me.

“I’m sorry. I am so very sorry.” He whispered looking at me.

“Well Miss Williams we well. He called us in. He told us about a kidnapping that went on.” Sherriff said. The doctor folded his arms and stared at the two of them. “Your kidnapping.”

“But….” I shook my head as Taylor watched this unfold.

“He is taking all of the charges of 2 counts of kidnapping as well as 1st degree murder.” I looked at the Sherriff wide eyed.

“Who did he….Why is he getting in trouble?” The Sherriff looked at me confused.

“Baby I think he is saying he was the one that kidnapped you.” Taylor said putting his hand over mine.

“No. No he saved me.” I shook my head as tears fell down my face. “I know he did.”

“I didn’t Bailey. I helped him kidnap you. I shouldn’t have. All I could remember was your cries and screams for him. We took you away from your home. From your friends. I could guilt it anymore. I was going to call anyway. I was going to give both of us up. For what we had done to you. To your family.”

“Why would you help him? You are a good person I know it! I know you are or you wouldn’t have helped me out of there. You wouldn’t have made that promise to me. You would have just left me there. But you didn’t you helped me. I know you’re good.” I shook my head angrily. “Why would you help him?” I asked defeated.

“I didn’t think he was going to kidnap anyone. He said he was just going to get what was his and then go home. I thought he meant a TV or a dog or something. Not a person. Not a pregnant person.”

“How could you be friends with him!?” I almost yelled sitting up. Taylor caught me laying me back down on the bed. “How?” I asked quietly as Taylor took my hand in his kissing my palm comfortingly.

“I had to.” He shook his head. “He’s my brother.”

“What!?” I yelled making everyone jump. “You’re related!?”

“Sadly. We have the same mother.” He shook his head. “Our Mother never really enjoyed the family she had. She hated her husband. She loved her kids, but the life she had she hated. She was a Sailors wife. Nothing more. But when Owen’s father was killed in combat when he was 22 she went down. Down in the dumps. She slept with everything that moved and had a -” The Sherriff smacked him before he could finish his sentence. “You get the point. I have a brother who is 24 years older than me. He raised me from when I was 3. Well when he got out of prison of course.” He shook his head again. “He was like a father to me. I owed him that.

“He taught me about life and everything in it. He took me in when our Mom died when I was 11.”

“So you would help him kidnap a pregnant woman?” The Sherriff asked him. Derek shook his head.

“I told you I didn’t know. I swear. And by the time I did we were in South Carolina and I watched her curl in a ball with a beach ball under her skin. I swear.” He looked at the Sherriff.

“You killed your brother.” Derek looked down.

“I had to.” I stared at him.

“You killed him for me.” It wasn’t a question. He knew it.

“I had to protect you. I couldn’t break my promise.” Taylor looked at me with tears forming in his eyes. “I’m so sorry.” He whispered the tears spilling over down his cheeks. “I wish I didn’t have to kill him. I wish it was different.”  The doctor looked at the Sherriff.

“I don’t want to press charges on him.” I said quietly making everyone’s head turn to look at me.

“But Bailey…” Taylor said shocked making his tears stop dead in their tracks.

“I won’t press charges against him. I can’t.” The Sherriff nodded.

“I knew you would say that. After that story I wouldn’t be able to either. I would let him go but I can’t.”

“But why?” I asked him stroking Fin’s hair as he stared at everyone and listening to what was going on.

“He still committed murder. I can’t let that be forgotten. The charges will be small as it was a self-defense killing but it will be a minimum of 4 years for the rest of the charges. I can’t change that.” I lay back on the bed putting my hand to my face and closing my eyes.

“What about Conrad?” I asked after a moment of silence.

“He’d go into Foster care till he got out.” Derek shook his head at the Sherriff.

“I don’t want custody of him.” He shook his head. “I don’t deserve it.”

“Then what would happen to him?” I asked looking at the Sherriff.

“He would just go into Foster care and wait till he was adopted.” Derek shook his head.

“I want to sign my custody over to Bailey. I want her to take care of him. As a promise to me.” I looked at him before looking at Conrad who was pulling the pacifier in his mouth out before putting it back in and doing it again.

“Three children Bailey?” Taylor said looking at me. “Could you do that?”

“How couldn’t I? I can’t send him into the foster care system. I wouldn’t be able to. Look at him Taylor. He is an innocent baby with nothing to do with this mess. He doesn’t deserve to be treated like he is being treated. He’s a baby Taylor! An innocent baby!”

“You know I understand that Baby. But another baby?”

“I didn’t turn away Fin when he was a baby lying in that crib back in Caroline’s house. How can you turn away from an innocent baby I care about?” Taylor looked down rubbing the back of his neck.

“Bailey I want you to be happy. I just don’t know if a baby is the right thing to do right now.” Fin looked at me before looking at Conrad.

“Brother?” He asked pointing at him. I nodded before Taylor could say anything. Conrad looked at him in wonder. “He can have Gator. I big boy now.” He smiled handing over his beloved stuffed animal. The one he has loved for so long. He smiled up at me as I leaned down to kiss his head.

“Ba ba!” Conrad giggled at Fin taking Gator. “Ga ga.” He smiled happily.

“Bailey I do not think it’s a good thing to have another baby in the house right now.”

“I don’t think you are right Taylor. Can you turn him away?”

“Bailey is doesn’t matter if I can turn him away. You’re sick. The baby has a heart problem. Fin is only just 3. We are not ready to take in another baby right now.”

“Taylor how could you say that? He’s a baby! We can’t just let him be taken away. How would you feel if it was Fin being taken away from you?” Taylor shook his head at me.

“He isn’t your son Bailey.”

“He feels like it.”

“Bailey. No. We can’t. I’m sorry.” I shook my head at him.

“No Taylor. You can’t. I’m going to take him no matter what you say.” I watched his jaw clench at me.

“Bailey knock it off.” I shook my head.

“No. You knock it off. Stop being an ass hole Taylor.”

“Stop it Bailey!” He yelled at me making me jump. I clenched my stomach painfully as a strong contraction rocked through me. Fin started to cry setting off Conrad who started to scream with everything that was going on around him. I felt a gush of water wet the bed as I groaned out in pain….
