I stared at Taylor squeezing his hand. “I’m scared.” I whispered looking up at him. He leaned down to lean his forehead on mine.

“I know baby. I am too.” The EMT picked up my IV bag and held it up.

“Miss Williams you might want to try to get some sleep. It’s going to be a long ride. And when you get there, it’s going to be long.” She smiled at me. “It would be good to be rested up for it. I nodded at her as Taylor stroked my hair.

“I will try. Thank you.” I turned to look at Taylor. “I love you.” He smiled at me.

“I love you too.” He kissed my head gently. “Try to get some sleep.” I nodded closing my eyes trying to let sleep take me in…..

“Bailey baby time to wake up.” I opened my tired eyes to look at Taylor. “We are almost there. You got to wake up. It’s time to have a baby.” I looked at the EMT.

“Sweetheart are you okay?” She asked pulling a flashlight out of her pocket and shining it in my eyes.

“I don’t think I feel so.” I said turning my head to look at Taylor.

“Bailey…Baby what’s wrong?” I shook my head as the driver pulled up to the hospital. The EMT put her gloved hand on my forehead.

“You’re burning up.” She said wiping away the sweat as I nodded.

“I don’t feel so good.” I mumbled as the doors to the ambulance opened to reveal a mess of nurses and doctors.

“What do we got here?” One of the doctors asked as they helped pull the gurney out of the ambulance. Taylor’s hand held mine as the doctor checked my pulse.

“I think something is getting worse.” Taylor said as my hand got sweaty in his.

“Sweetheart I need you to look at me.” The doctor said as they rolled me in pasted all the uniformed marines and recruits. I looked over at him forcing my eyes to stay open as another doctor looked at my chart.

“My stomach hurts.” I said weakly at him as Taylor held my hand tightly.

“I know sweetheart. We are going to help you have this baby.” The doctor smiled at me as they pulled me into a room in the ER. They quickly shifted me into the ER bed.

“No.” I shook my head.

“No, what Miss Williams? There is no going back your now.” Another, younger doctor said. The older one shook his head as he pressed above my swollen belly.

“No Richards. Bailey what hurts?” I lifted my free hand to press right under my rib on my right side. “Right here?” He pressed it gently making me gasp loudly and squeeze Taylor’s hand.

“Right there.” I whimpered. He nodded.

“Nurse go open up the OR for Miss Williams please.” The nurse nodded running off quickly at the sound of his voice.

“What’s going on?” Taylor asked looking between the two doctors. “What’s wrong with her?” The younger one looked at the older one.

“Michaels I want you to go get the OBGYN quick. Make sure the NICU is ready for an early arrival.” The doctor said to the younger one.

“Yes Sir.” He said before running out of the room.

“Please I’m begging you.” Taylor said to him. “What’s going on?” The doctor started to hook me up to the heart monitor and clicked my finger into another monitor.

“I think something happened with her liver.” He finally said to a frantic Taylor. “The pain isn’t a normal labor pain. Her chart says she has liver cancer and before she was taken she has a liver tumor. Am I right?” Taylor nodded at me as my eyes fluttered closed in exhaustion.

“Is she going to be okay?” He said tears forming in his eyes. The doctor put his hand on Taylor’s shoulder.

“I don’t know Son. But I promise you I will do the best I can to save both her and the baby.” Taylor nodded as my heart beat started to flutter.

“She’s everything to me. I have two kids going on three with her. How can I live without her?” Taylor asked as a group of nurses rushed in as the doctor and they unclicked the bed moving to roll me out.

“I’m going to try to not let that happen.” The doctor called as they rolled me out and down the hall. A nurse stopped Taylor as he went to follow them.

“I’m sorry Sir. You can’t come in here.” I felt Taylor’s fingers slip from inside mine as if it was slow motion.

“But wait-” He said at me as he tried to hold onto my hand but my fingers slipped from his as I was pulled away. “Please.”

“I’m sorry Sir. I can’t let you in.” He shook his head.

“Bailey! I love you!” He yelled down the hallway to me. “I love you.” His voice seemed to fade as the colors around me dimmed and blurred.

“Bailey! Bailey!” a horrid beeping made me turn my throbbing head to look at the owner of the voice. The doctor had a concerned look on his face. I tried to blink away the blurring as I was pulled into a room just outside the OR. “How many fingers am I holding up?” He said holding up two fingers.

“Four?” I asked not sure as of how many he was truly holding up. “I don’t feel good Doc.” I said fighting to keep my eyes open and me awake.

“I know sweetheart.” He patted my hand as nurses dressed in sterile scrubs pulled my hair into a hair thing. I shook my head as the darkness got closer and closer.

“Doc…” I mumbled weakly. I could see the Doctor as the heart monitor went crazy.

“Yes Bailey?” He asked as the nurses helped him get dressed so he was clean and sterile.

“Save my baby.” I felt the tear fall down my cheek as the blackness took over me pulling me into the blank darkness I always hated.…..

Taylor stared at the door tears running down his face as he stared ahead of himself. “Taylor!” He turned to look behind him to where his name was being called. Jayden ran up to him putting his hand on his shoulder.

“I don’t know if I ever will get to see her again.” He whispered looking back at the door in front of him. “She’s everything to me.”

“I know.” Jayden said looking through the window in the door.

“Where are the kids?” He asked quietly.

“Mika has them.” Jayden nodded at him.

“What am I going to do?” Taylor asked looked at him after a while of silence. Jayden shook his head.

“I don’t know.” He sighed. “I really don’t know.”…….

My eyes fluttered open as I gasped for breath making the nurse by my head jump. “Welcome back Bailey.” The Doctor smiled at me through the mask he wore on his face. I gasped into the oxygen mask that covered my face. The nurse patted my hand.

“It’s okay sweetheart. Doctor Killen is going to help you.”

“You are going to feel pressure down here alright?” He said to me as a tear rolled down my face. “We are getting to the baby. We gave you an epidural. Can you feel what I’m doing?” I shook my head as the nurse put her hand in mine.

“No,” I gasped closing my eyes quickly. “Just pressure.” I whimpered as the nurse put her hand in mine.

“It’s going to be okay. Almost done.” She squeezed my hand tightly.

“I can feel it. I got it in my hands.” I opened my eyes to look at him as my vision started to get blurry again. “Here we go.” He looked at me. “Pressure Bailey. You’re going to feel a lot of pressure.” I whimpered in pain. “Here we are.” I screamed out I agony from the pressure as the doctor pulled Itty Bitty out of its home. “Congratulations Bailey. It’s a little girl.” I turned my head to look at the little tiny baby in the Doctor’s hands. She couldn’t be much bigger than the doctor’s hands.

“Why isn’t….why isn’t she crying?” I forced out painfully.

“She is premature so you she might not-” The nurse got cut off by a little tiny scream coming from the baby in his arms. The doctor handed my little girl to the nurse by him holding a towel to wipe her off. I could feel the pain coming up my body as my stomach protested the doctor.

“Congratulations Mommy. Give your little girly a kiss before we take her to the NICU.” The nurse who had been by my side holding my hand pulled the mask away from my mouth as the other nurse lowered Itty Bitty to my mouth so I could kiss her little head as she cried.

“Welcome this cruel world my little girl. Mommy loves you.” I could feel my eyes roll into the back of my head as the beeping of my heart monitor went crazy before going flat….

“Gunnery Sergeant Andrews.” Taylor looked up at the nurse who opened the door both him and Jayden where staring at.

“Yes?” He asked searching her face.

“Come with me.” She nodded holding the door open for him to follow.

“Go Taylor. I’ll wait here.” Jayden nodded as Taylor followed the nurse as she walked down the hallway. He looked around as she stopped outside the NICU.

“I hope you understand why we couldn’t let you in the OR while she was giving birth. She is in Emergency surgery right now.” Taylor looked at her concerned. “We can talk about that in a movement.” Another nurse came walking over holding a cleaned baby in her hands.

“That’s……” The nurse smiled at him.

“You wouldn’t mind holding her while we get everything ready for her.” She smiled as the nurse laid out his hands before putting the teeny tiny baby in them.

“It’s so small.” He whispered looking at the little baby as she lay in his palm, her head smaller than his hand.

“She’s so small.” He looked up at her. “Meet your daughter.” Taylor looked down at the little baby the feeding tube coming out of her nose which the nurse already put on her. Taylor leaned down to gently kiss her head making her move her mouth and her feet as if kicking. “I’m sorry Taylor. I have to take her. She isn’t breathing right. I have to set her up on the machines.” Taylor looked at the nurse before sighing knowing what’s best.

“Take care of her.” He said as she took the gasping baby into her hands laying her down as she hooked her up to everything so Itty Bitty was full of wires and tubes. Taylor put his finger into her little palm making her grasp it as she fell asleep breathing through the tube in her throat after she stopped breathing herself….
