I curled up on the bed more tired than I have been in a while. I closed my eyes falling fast asleep in minutes. I woke some time later to the sound of Fin coughing in his sleep. I rubbed my eyes pulling myself up looking around the dark room blinking away the feeling of wanting to go right back to sleep. “You want me to go get him?” Taylor moaned from under his pillow. I turned to look at him from just the light coming from the hallway.

“No, no I’ll go get him.” I sighed rubbing my head moving to get out of bed. I haven’t been feeling too well lately. But Fin has been sick lately too so I must have caught it too. I walked to his bedroom looking into in from the open door way. He was still lying on his bed curled up coughing making me walk over to him and rub his back trying to sooth him. He whined turning over in his sleep as he coughed. I walked over to the vaporizer and turning it on for him. I turned to look at him as he coughed again making himself start to cry. I lifted him up and cradled him to me holding him close.

“Mommy.” He cried as he woke up. I kissed his head rubbing his back.

“Go back to bed baby.” I whispered humming to him as he coughed clinging to me.

“Mommy.” He cried again as I laid down on his bed holding him to me.

“Shhh baby we are going to the doctor tomorrow. Then they will make it go away.” I pulled the blanket up on him and handed him his blanket. His coughing wasn’t as bad so he easily fell right asleep snoring lightly with his stuffy nose. I sat up in his bed replacing my body with a big stuffed alligator. I sat there for a minute before I stood up getting suddenly extremely nauseous. I stood there for a moment trying to make the feeling go away but I knew I couldn’t, it was too strong, so I high-tailed it to the bathroom as fast and quiet as I could. I just made it to the toilet as everything in my stomach came out of it with a one way ticket out my throat. I heard a knock at the door as I closed my eyes.

“Baby, you alright?” I heard a muffled Taylor say through the door. “Bailey?” another knock came at the door as I gaged again.

“Yeah.” I gagged once more before I started to throw up again. The door opened and Taylor came in walking over to me.

“Oh Baby.” He leaned down to lift my hair out of my sweaty face. He rubbed my back with his other hand before flushing the towel. I felt the tears rolling down my face as the pain of my throat finally got to me. “Shhh it’s alright baby.” He pulled me into his arms holding me close to him ‘shhh’-ing me every so often. I almost fell asleep but I moved out of his arms back to the toilet throwing up again. Taylor held my hair and rubbed my back gently. I finished off, my head pounding, as sweat poured down my face.

“I’m done.” I moaned as Taylor flushed the toilet and lifting me up from the floor in his arms and sitting me on the counter. “Fin?” I said closing my eyes but opening them again to look at him.

“I closed his door when I first heard you.” He picked up my tooth brush and wetting it under the water.

“Do you think he heard me?” I whispered looking at him. He shook his head picking up the tooth paste and putting it on the tooth brush.

“No I don’t think he heard you since you put the vaporizer on for him. I looked in his room before coming here to take care of you and he was fast asleep curled up with his alligator. Now open.” I opened my mouth as he helped me brush my teeth. “See go Awe and open real wide.” He said brushing everything in my mouth getting the taste of vomit out and replacing it with mint. “Alright spit.” I leaned over and spit into the sink.

“Thank you.” I smiled weakly at him. He lifted me up in bride style and taking me back into the bedroom laying me on the bed. “I love you.” I looked at him as he lay next to me on the bed. He turned his head to look at me before smiling kissing my head.

“I love you too Baby.” He pulled me to him before pulling the blankets up around us. “Now get some sleep. Don’t worry about Fin’s doctor appointment I will take him.” He pressed his lips to my head again while I snuggled up to him.

“No, don’t worry about it. I’ll take him. I just have to stop in at work and get a couple of things.” He nodded. “Any way you have to be on duty during the time of the appointment.” He looked down at me.

“I can find some way of taking him if you need me too Baby. I don’t mind. I could try-” I cut him off by pressing my lips to his bare chest.

“No Taylor it’s fine. I’m taking him. No worries. I can take care of my son.” He smiled at me kissing me on the lips this time.

“I don’t doubt you in anyway of not taking care of your son, our son.” I snuggled even closer to him. “Go to bed.”

“Same to you Mr. Marine.” I giggled closing my eyes letting the dark take over and leaving my mind in ease…….

I walked into the pediatrician with Fin on my hip as he laid his head on my shoulder holding his blanket tightly to himself sucking on his sippy cup full of apple juice. I walked up to the window and signed in Fin’s name on the line. “You here to see Dr. Brown today Bailey?” I nodded.

“Yeah Fin is sick.” I smoothed down his hair gently as he started to cough again.

“If you go have a seat in the waiting room a nurse will come get you to take you in soon.” I nodded making my way over to the sick room of the office. I held Fin close to me wrapping him in his blanket as he watched me before pulling out his sippy cup and started to cough again making his whole body shake with the force of the cough. I rubbed his back as he took deep breaths trying to re-catch his breath.

“Finley Andrews?” I looked up putting Fin on my hip walking towards the nurse. “So Bailey what’s it like having Taylor home again?” I smiled at her.

“It’s been 3 months and I still can’t get enough of him.” I laughed as she smiled slyly at me. “But you would know wouldn’t you?” I sat up on the table with Fin as he stared at the nurse.

“I would wouldn’t I?” She giggled at me laughing before smiling at Fin. “I’m just going to stick this in your ear okay?” He looked at her scared before looking at me and starting to cry. “You know what let me just get Dr. Brown before any other patient comes in.” She sighed opening the door and walking out as I tried to calm Fin.

“What seems to be the problem here?” Dr. Brown smiled at us with the nurse that was in here before behind him. Fin looked at him before snuggling into me watching Dr. Brown closely.

“Finley doesn’t want his temperature taken.”  He gave us a thoughtful look rubbing his chin with his index finger and his thumb. He smiled at us and picked up the thermometer.

“You know Fin, Mommy gets her temperature taken too you know.” Fin looked up as I nodded knowing what he was doing.

“I do Fin. All the time.” He looked up at me as Dr. Brown put the thermometer in my ear taking my temperature as Fin watched to see it was okay. He looked at the thermometer in confusion then at me.

“Bailey you have a fever.” I looked at him than at Fin. He saw what I meant and smiled at Fin. “See it’s alright Fin. You want to try now?” He nodded as the doctor took his temperature before pulling it out and writing it in his file. “Finley has a fever too.”

“Is it high?” He shook his head.

“Only 101.6. Not too bad.” He turned to listen to Fin’s chest and had him take deep breaths and listened to him cough.

“What do you think it is?” I asked looking at him.

“I think it’s a simple infection. I want you to give him a prescription of antibiotics.” I nodded. “Also I am going to give you a prescription for cough syrup for him. Just to sooth his throat so it doesn’t hurt as much for him. Especially for bed time.” I smiled at him stroking his hair.

“Thank you Dr. Brown.” He nodded at me before looking at the nurse.

“Nurse why don’t you go show Fin the fish tank in the waiting room.” The nurse nodded as I put Fin down before she took his hand walking out. I looked at the doctor as I sat up straight.  “Bailey have you been getting sick lately? Vomiting? Stomach pain?” I nodded.

“Well yes. I have been getting pretty sick by not too bad. Throwing up in the morning and at night. But I haven’t had any stomach pains. What’s going on?” He gave me a thoughtful look.

“Have you missed your period lately?” I bit my lip thinking. I went pale.

“I have. I have just been so busy with Fin and with Taylor being home…” I trailed off.

“I don’t even have to ask if your sexually active do I?” He laughed nervously.  I looked down going over the dates in my head. “Bailey come stand on the scale for me.” My brain was on auto pilot as I got up and stood on the scale for Dr. Brown. He fixed the numbers so it showed my weight. I watched his face as his eye brows dropped.

“What’s wrong Doc?” I whispered in a small voice. He looked at me frowning.

“Bailey how much do you weigh?” I thought for a minute.

“I’m about 120. Best I had in a while.” He smiled weakly at me.

“Bailey, you weigh 85 pounds.” I shook my head.

“No I don’t.” He nodded pointing to the numbers. My jaw dropped. I really was 85 pounds. It can’t be.

“But, but, but.” I felt the feeling of being nauseous taking over me again. “What’s this mean Dr. Brown?” He sighed taking my hand and sitting me in the chair next to the scale sitting me down on it before kneeling in front of me.

“Bailey I think your pregnant.” I felt the tears forming in my eyes.

“Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing Dr. Brown?” I was fighting the tears as I ran my eyes over his face.

“Bailey I also think you have cancer.”
