Half an hour later the kids came back down the stairs and looked at us dancing to no music. Mari bumped into my hip and cut in to dance with Kie as I danced with Marek. I had to say at that moment my children were excellent at everything that they had ever done. We all danced for a while before we sat down and they looked at us expectantly.

I smiled. "What would you think of me going back to work for the Military, and before you flip out I am not talking assassination missions. I am talking about taking a job on base with Ava as instructors, well if they would have us that is."

They looked at each other for a few moments, their hand gestures told me nothing of their silent conversation that would be the weighted decision for me to tell Ava. It was a few minutes of tense silence before they both looked back at us. I expected Mari to start that conversation, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

"Here's the deal. If you do this, there will be some rules. First of all no special treatment or gushing. I know how you can get sometimes and I want to go far. I am not saying this to insult you mom, not in the least but it is going to be daunting enough to try to explain that my mother used to be an assassin, let alone that she is now the drill instructor. I know you and Aunt Ava are tough and I wouldn't expect anything different. You are sending a bunch of boys out into the middle of a war that the four of us pretty much caused. I thought it was funny that you blew up the compound while you were in labor but my gosh mom. Do you see where my worries are?"

I nodded my head. "Son, I'm not going to be gushing as I plant your ass in the freezing rain as you go through the most rigorous shit you will probably ever go through. If, and that is a big IF they will give Ava and I the position on base you can bet your ass not only the same treatment, but during your training Ava and I won't be able to help you at all. I want you to succeed and go far. I know what you are capable of and I want you to aspire so much. You won't have to worry about either of us standing in your way. One day after you stop hating my guts for what I would do to you in boot camp, we might be able to laugh about it. I am a lot tougher than what they have there now and I find it to be a bit inadequate to say the least. Don't get me wrong they are all battle worn Marines and I wouldn't show them less respect, but Cherry, Ava and I have been through hell against odds they would never do to normal soldiers. I still need to talk to Ava about this as well, but you two are my life and I don't want to be THAT separated from you. Across country is really stinting us and your sister."

They both nodded and Meri finally chimed in. "Momma, we love you more than anything in the world and my choice to change where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do was because I am already going to have to be away from him on deployments, I am not sure if I can be away from him while he is in the states. It is a great idea for you guys to move out there with us and I know you wouldn't be happy with a desk job, but you are one hell of a healer mom and you have your military ID for life. Why don't you make the best of your skills, collaborate with the hospital on base and make a hollistic clinic. You love herbs so much and I can't see you keeping a straight face as you are driving your own son into the ground. I love you to death, but you have a really sick sense of humor sometimes momma."

I laughed at her. "Yea that is very true and I can bet that Ava would like that better. I will talk to her about that. Who knows she might like that better and it won't be like going up against North Korea."

They all laughed and the night passed with music, drinks and dancing. We pushed the problem to the back of our mind but it wasn't going to go away easily. The next day would be a hellish day for both Ava and I. Bad discussions, possible move and a funeral. We would smile and laugh and joke in the darkness for that wasn't what we feared, but the light of another day that could be the end of us all.
