Chapter 20

Confrontation

Cassie’s POV

I watched as he stormed towards me, his face the picture of anger.

‘What do you want from me Cassie?’ He shouted at me.

We’d had arguments in the past but he’d never spoken to me like this before, and it cut me deeper than I could tell. Seven years ago he’d always looked at me with love in his eyes and now the contrast was unbelievable, it was almost hatred.

‘I…I…’ I didn’t know what to say.

‘Do you want my congratulations? Do you want me to turn around and tell you I was wrong for letting you go?’ He looked at me expectantly.

And before I knew it all the anger and sadness that had been inside me for seven years unleashed itself.

‘I don’t want anything from you! Nothing! You find out I’m engaged and then I’m the bad guy for moving on?’ I felt tears falling down my cheek and I hated him in that moment, for making me feel like this. ‘You’re the one who walked away Tyler! You’re the one who left me in the rain! I waited for your phone calls every day and they never came. How you think that made me feel? And you wait seven years to confront me! Well it’s too late Tyler!’

‘Don’t you think I know that already?’ He shouted at me and grabbed my shoulders and shook me, he’d never looked so beautiful to me and it scared me. ‘I will regret that for the rest of my life! It haunts me!’

‘Then why did you leave me?’ I whispered.

I watched as his face softened and he wrapped me up in his arms, ‘I’m so sorry Cassie… I didn’t want to make you cry. But when I think of you with him it’s painful, because I know you should be with me, you don’t know it right now but you did and years from now you’ll know. You will look back and know what we had was love!’

I knew in that moment that he was right, I did love him… but I loved Tom too. I had a fiancé at home in an apartment that we’d bought together, a fiancé that would be here in Mexico in two weeks. Sure, Tom had his faults especially where Tyler was concerned but he’d been patient with me and I loved him for that.

‘Tyler,’ I whispered, ‘I can’t… I have a fiancé. We can be friends?’ I said this hopelessly, I looked into those piercing green eyes and knew what he was going to say before he’d said it.

‘We’re not friends… we never were.’

He released my shoulders and said, ‘I never stopped loving you Cassie.’

With that he was gone. I watched him leave, and felt a tear fall from my eye.

‘Me too.’ I whispered.

Tyler’s POV

She still loved me… I could see it. The only problem was that Tom was the easier option, her mother loved him and she was comfortable!

The worst part was that in a week Tom would be here in Mexico, and he would be smug knowing that what he’d said to me all those years ago was true. But I wasn’t finished yet; I wasn’t giving up on us.
