Chapter 23

Hiding the Truth

Cassie’s POV

I couldn’t believe it; Tom was here 5 days early! Immediately I took one large step away from Tyler and instantly regretted it as I saw the hurt cross over on Tyler’s face.

‘Baby, what are you doing here?’ I asked moving forward with my arms extended as if to hug him.

He pushed me out of the way and tackled Tyler, they fell to the ground and Tom shouted, ‘What have you done?’

I was screaming but it was no good they were fighting, just like they had seven years ago in the restaurant. A crowd of hotel guests were gathering and I ran forward, Tyler was on top of Tom at this point so I grabbed him and as he felt my touch he instantly calmed; it secretly pleased me that I had this effect on him. He took a step back and then I pushed him aside.

‘Tom what the hell were you thinking?’ I cried.

‘I was thinking that this arsehole,’ he pointed at Tyler as he said this, ‘is still in love with my fiancé and was leading her off to sleep with her!’

‘Woah!’ I shouted, ‘do you not trust me at all?’ I was angry, sure I loved Tyler but I wasn’t that kind of girl. I loved both of them and respected both of them more than I could say, I would never sleep with Tyler while I was engaged to Tom.

‘Not when it comes to him! He brings out your irrational and irresponsible side!’ Tom shouted in my face. I’d never seen him like this; so mean and rude, he’d always been the picture of the perfect husband and that’s what I had expected not this… monster.

‘Excuse me!’ I shouted, ‘where do you come in telling me who I can and can’t see?’

‘Since I became your FIANCE!’ He spat the last word at me, ‘and since you never told me that this douche would be here.’

Ok he had a point on that last one, I should’ve told him that Tyler would be arriving with the rest of us a week early.

‘Look I’m sorry Tom… I don’t want to fight! C’mon we’re in Mexico for a wedding! Let’s not ruin this for Dana and Caleb. How about we have dinner?’ I cooed.

I saw Tyler walk away then and it killed me to see his back turn on me, but Tom was right her was my fiancé, I’d accepted the ring he’d given me and given him my word in return. And in a year I would make those binding vows and spend the rest of my life with the man I loved. Only now I knew it wasn’t right… but I was too late.

Tyler’s POV

How could this have happened? How could he have turned up early, just when we were about to escape? Just when I was about to make her see? It was like that Tom guy had a special watch that told him whenever Cassie and I were happy just so he could come and fuck it up!

I paced in my hotel room, angry at Tom; for ruining our chances, for proposing to the girl who was meant to be with me and for being able to give her more than I could. Angry at Cassie; for making me feel the way I do, for flirting with Tom in front of me and for being afraid to grab what she wants. But most of all I was angry with myself; for putting Cassie in this position, for not fighting hard enough for her and for not being the man she deserves.

They were going for dinner together tonight and there was no question that he would work his charm and ruin everything I’d made Cassie realise these past few days, she would forget about me and her feelings and do the thing that would make everyone else happy. And then before she knew it she’d be there on her wedding day, walking down the aisle and making vows in front of her friends and family; it would be almost perfect and then the moment before she said ‘I do’ she’d realise she’d made a mistake and it should’ve been me she was saying that to, but it would be too late and she would live an unhappy life. I didn’t want that for her, and I couldn’t let it happen.

I laid on my bed tried to shut out the world, to forget; because forgetting would make it easier… bearable. Before I knew it I was dreaming.

Knock Knock.

Someone was knocking on the sliding door that lead onto the patio.
