Sarah’s P.O.V.

I sat there in the bathroom sobbing. After what felt like 15 minutes, Stephanie came barging in the bathroom.

“Oh my god Sarah, are you okay?”

I looked up and lightly shook my head before I start bawling again. Stephanie rushed over and pulled me in a hug as I sobbed into her shirt. She lightly rubbed my back trying to calm me down, but I just cried and cried. After five more minutes of crying, I finally stop.

“Sarah, what happened? Nathan told me you went to his car to get a box and then I see you talking to Danny and now find you in here sobbing. What did Danny do to you?” Stephanie looked at me with worry in her eyes as she passed me a paper towel. I stood up, went to the mirror, and wiped my smudge makeup.

“Danny didn’t do anything to me. It was time to end it, so I gave him all his stuff back. I feel heartbroken Steph, but it needed to be done. I need to move on. I need to get past this.”I was battling to keep the tears in my eyes.

“Sweetie, I’m proud of you for how you’re dealing with this situation. I know you’re hurting badly right now but you have the strength to get through this, and your friends to help. Right now, though the best thing to do is to go home, take a bath and relax. I’ll get Nathan to take you home because I have a test next block and then I’ll come by with some ice cream and we’ll have a girly night okay.” Steph smiled genuinely at me.

Without Stephanie, I don’t know how I would survive. I gave her a friendly smile as she helped me finish wipe off all the makeup. When we were done, we walked out of the bathroom to find Nathan standing across the hall with a worried look on his face. As the bathroom door shut behind us, Nathan looked up and met my eyes. He gave me a comforting smile and I tried to return the same but failed. Nathan walked up to us through the busy hall and placed an arm around my shoulders, giving me a friendly squeeze.

“Nathan do you mind giving Sarah a ride home? She’s not feeling well.” While Stephanie said that, she glanced over at me with a strange look on her face.

“Yeah of course I can.” Nathan glanced at me, and then nodded at Steph.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to take you away from class. I’m sure my mom would pick me if I called her.” Nathan’s arm was still wrapped on my shoulders and the awkwardness was kicking in.
“No no, I only have study block so it’s no problem.” Nathan noticed how uncomfortable I was, so he removed his arm.

“Okay good, now that settled out, I got to go. The bell should be ringing any minute and I have a test to go do. I’ll see you after school alright, Sarah.” Stephanie gave me a quick hug before she left down the hall, leaving Nathan and I standing there awkwardly.

“So umm should we go..” I look around. Nathan nodded and placed out his hand for me to lead the way.

The whole ride was awkward and uncomfortable. Usually I have no problem talking to Nathan, but today my head was just not in it. Occasionally through the ride, Nathan would glance over and ask if I am feeling okay or if I wanted him to stay. I would just give a fake smile and shake my head. The last thing I needed right now was to complicate the situation anymore.

Once we approached my house, Nathan leaned over and planted a kiss on my temple, telling me to feel better and that he was only a phone call away. I gladly thanked him and got out the car, hoping the rest of my day would be better than the start.

Spending last night with Stephanie gave me a new view on things. I realized spending the rest of this year mopping around would not be worth it, and that I needed to put on my big girl panties and move on with my life. This morning I felt refreshed and reenergized with Stephanie doing my makeup and giving me a cute outfit to wear. I’m not saying that life’s just going to be perfect from now on; I’m just looking on the bright side of things and trying to get past them.

I was smiling and laughing away with Steph, when Nathan’s car pulled up and he got out. The smile on my face quickly faded and a frown appeared when I saw Nathan. So much for a good day.
