As soon as we get out lattes and step outside the toasty café, the bell for second period goes and Sebastian groans.
“You gonna go to second Seb?” Flo asks, earing herself a distraught look.
“Nah, I’ll stay,” He says and grimaces.
“You don’t have to.” I add quietly and he shakes his head at me and flashes me a bittersweet smile.
“I’ll stay Ivs. You know I will.” I smile at him gratefully and walk over to give him a hug.
“Thank you,” I whisper into his chest and squeeze him tightly before letting go.
In the end, seeing as neither Flo nor Sebastian are actually supposed to be out of class, I decide that because I can go off campus, we are going to go for a drive. Flo is all for it if it allows her to stay out of History. Sebastian however, frowns and looks at me distractedly.
When we get to the front gate I show the people at the gate my student pass and they let both Flo and Sebastian out without a second glance. Idiots, they didn’t even check if we are allowed to be leaving or anything.
Shrugging off there stupidity, I walk the short pathway to the Academy’s private car park, where people who own a car are told to keep it.
I happen to love my car and every time I see it I can’t help but stop and stare at its sleekness.
This time is no exception.
When we walk towards it I stand in front of the hood and just stare. I have a dark cherry red Ferrari. I don’t know the model or anything but I do know a lot of people have lusted over its fabulousness. And even I can see that it is the most expensive car in the lot.
My father had given it to me on my sixteenth birthday, before I had even gotten my license or learnt how to drive.
It was a weird day.
I had gotten a call from the front office in the middle of one of my classes – English – and came to find my father with a key in his hand, ready to give me a hug and say happy birthday when I showed up in the administration office.
It was the first time I had seen him in half a year.
I hear Flo sigh wistfully and I turn around to look at her.
“Do you have your wallet on you?” I ask and she looks at me, looking horrified, realising what I am about to offer her. She shakes her head and looks away from me to look at the car again.
“Nope. Damn I love your car.”
“Damn. If you had your license on you I would have let you drive it.”
“Damn.” She repeats, having to rip her eyes from my car to look at me. I laugh at the look in her eyes.
“I still can’t believe he got you a Ferrari.” Sebastian says, almost to himself but looks over at me.
“Neither can I.” I admit and he smiles before turning to Flo.
“If you want we can quickly run back and get your wallet if you want?” Sebastian offers, before even I think of it.
“Nah, don’t bother. Man I wish I had a car.” She sighs wistfully again, getting a faraway look in her brown eyes.
“Flo?” I ask. She shakes her head and returns back to the present moment, a smile playing at her lips.
“Let’s go Ivs. I want to see how well your car drives.” I smile and she smiles back, then she turns to get in the seat. I walk down over to a bin and throw in my latte and then walk to my side of the car and pull open the driver’s door and move the seat forward, waiting for Sebastian to hop in.
He hesitates a bit before getting in the back.
I don’t blame him to be honest. The first time he had ever been in a car while I was the driver, I ended up running into a wall and scaring the crap out of both of us.
No one got hurt or anything, because we were only going a maximum of 10 kilometres an hour but it’s safe to say I didn’t drive for a while.
Flo was already seated when I got in after Sebastian and she was looking around in wonder, examining every detail and smiling happily.
I clip on my seatbelt and pull the keys out of my school bag and put them in the ignition. We pull out of my parking spot and leave the car pack, the road flying away under the wheels when we hit the main road.
After we have been driving around in silence for a few minutes, Flo too lost in the details of my car to notice anything else, I ask what we are going to do.
“So what do you want to do today Miss Florence?” I ask Flo because she seems to be the one enjoying herself the most as I look at her out of the corner of my eye.
When she sees me looking at her she flashes me a bittersweet smile, full of sadness and happiness at the same time.
After I ask her and she suddenly looks serious and deep in thought, seriously pondering what she wants to do. After another minute of silence, she looks at me curiously, her eyes full of questions.
“Can we go to your house?” she asks and I jerk the steering wheel, nearly throwing us off the road.
Sebastian makes a cry of surprise from the back and I don’t know if it’s because Flo wants to go to our hometown or because I nearly killed us all.
“Um, why do you want to exactly?” I ask after I right the car, knowing that I'm not going to like what she’s going to say next.
“I want to meet both of your families. Especially your brother Ivs. I don’t know anything about where you both used to live.” And I am right. I don’t like it one little bit, but I still have the feeling that she is going to get her way, like she always does with me.
“You do realise that if we go there, were going to miss the rest of the day? It would probably be easier to just stay there the night and go home tomorrow. That is if we do go.” I add to the end, almost forcefully but hoping that the rest of the sentence would throw her off.
Flo’s eyes are full of glimmering hope and I realise that she really does want to go to my hometown with me and Sebastian and meet our families.
“I don’t care. Can we please go? I really want to go.” I sigh and take my eyes off her for a few seconds, concentrating fully on the road, thinking about the pros and cons of the situation. Sighing again, I give in.
“Fine we can go but you have to listen to me very carefully okay?” I hear Sebastian groan from the back and see his head fall into his hands in the rear-view mirror.
“Yay!” Flo squeals in delight, jumping up and down in her seat, not at all discouraged by Sebastian's negative reaction to my words.
“Flo? Fl-Flo! Florence!” She immediately stops jumping and has enough courtesy to look guilty.
“You’re going to have to listen to me before we get there, okay? And you’re going to have to promise me a few things.”
“Okay. I promise.”
“Good. Now Flo, do not listen to a single thing that anyone in my household says, okay?” She cocks her head to the side for a second in confusion, and opens her mouth to argue.
When she sees my expression and how deadly serious I am, her mouth snaps shut with an audible snap.
“Okay. What else?”
“Do not ever, ever, ever, stay in the same room with Jason by yourself. Now this is extremely important. You have to swear to me that you won’t do this Flo or I won’t take you.” Sebastian's head rises from his hands and he looks at me warily. I ignore him and continue to look at Flo and drive.
“Okay. I swear that I will never, ever, ever stay in the same room as Jason by myself.”
“Good.” I say nodding my head and pulling my iPhone from my pocket.
I scroll through all of my contacts to find the one labelled Alistair on click on call. I wait for a few seconds while I hear the dial tone and hoping that he doesn’t pick up. It barely even rings before he picks up.
‘Hello, Alistair Calvert here.’
“Hi dad, it’s Ivory. Will you be home later?”
“Yes, it’s Ivory. I already said that. Will you be home later?” I repeat, already exasperated.
‘Of course I will honey. What do you need?’
“I need you to ring the school and tell them…”
‘Tell them what honey?’
I sigh, and plunge forward, forcing myself to think of how much Flo wants this.
“I want you to tell them that me and a friend of mine, Florence Maybelle are safe and that we’re currently at your house.”
‘But you are not.’ He points out uselessly.
“Well obviously but… but we will be…in about two hours.” I say sighing, repeating a newly found mantra in my head. ‘Think of Flo, Think of Flo’
‘You’re coming home?’ He asks, completely shocked. It’s obvious he didn’t expect this.
“Yes dad… And so is Sebastian. Just tell them where we are.”
‘Sebastian’s coming home too?’ I can hear the complete surprise in his tone.
“Yes! I already said that! Jeez. Just tell them okay?”
‘Of course honey. See you soon.’ I can hear the smile in his voice and hang up before he can annoy me anymore.
It is pretty obvious that he is ecstatic about me coming, and his happy attitude suggests that his going to throw some sort of a welcome home party, even though I know I sounded anything but happy.
I groan and Flo looks at me funny.
“We are going to go aren’t we?” She asks suspiciously.
“Yes Florence we are. That’s why I'm groaning.”
“Promise me Ivs. Promise that we’re going,” She looks at me adamantly, like a child.
“I promise Flo. I promise that we are going,” I try to smile but my face crumples into a grimace instead. Sebastian shoots me a worried expression from the back.
AUTHORS NOTE!!!!: Okay guys, don’t yell at me, but I won’t be posting any more chapters of Fairytales for a while, strictly just because I won’t feel like I'm being very fair to my contest participants, because two of the prizes have something to do with Fairytales, and that’s not going to be all that fair if Fairytales is finished by the time I announce the winners :P It will only be for about a month and a bit, maybe a little longer, but to make up for it, when I come back, I’ll update twice a week instead of just once okay?? For the rest of the novel!! :) Byebye my sexy trees, and I'm sorry about this dreadful news :/ If you want, to make up for it, I’ll even publish the character pictures :P Just tell me in the comments okay?? Byebye :(
