Chapter One- Keith Anderson
See, Jamacica Wilde was the only girl in the Stillrose Orphange. She was a baby when her parents were murdered. (I peeked in her files.) She was also the strangest. She was a slave girl living on a plantation in Texas. Her family was escaping but her mother managed to throw Jamacica in the fast churning water and Jamacica was swept away. That river led all the way to Oregan. Jamcica got adopted by a lonley old couple and was raised there for a year or two and then thrown back to North Carolina. Abbie Canters (the orphanage cook) put Jamacica in the orphanage and set her to work in the kitchen. I can tell she H-A-T-E-S it. (Being in orphange, even us blacks get education). Now you might be wondering how I, Keith Anderson, got in the orphanage. Well, I never actully knew my Momma or Pa. They died the day after I was born. So, Miss Alota, the founder of Stillrose took me in. No one bothers to adopt us, them whites stick up their noses at us. What am I doing? Laying down in my bed and staring at the stars thats what. Why am I telling Jamacica's story, becuase she has problems of her own to deal with.
