Chapter One: Old Beginnings...3

Present...continued

Lily POV:

He rushed to my side pulling me up by my arms.

"You Okay?"
I nodded, embarassed by my mistake. How silly of me!
“Yeah!”, I mumbled taking his hand for support. With a swish of his wand he neatly piled the books in his hands.
“I didn’t know your charmwork was that handy”, I said without thinking. The words surprised him as much as they did me. This was my chance, “James”,I paused to see how he reacted to his name, but he turned suddenly rigid, “I was thinking, actually I have been thinking for a long time...about what happened...”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Neither do I!”, I said reassuringly. He simply waited for me to continue, wondering(I am sure) about what I was going to say. “Let’s just forget everything and try to be friends.” There I said it! All in one single breath.
“Friends!”,his eyebrows shot up, looking at me as if I had lost it.
“We could at least try! It’s better than what we’ve been doing lately anyways.”
I saw his lips twitch a fraction bit and blushed. Of course it could mean wrong is badly misconstrued.
“Just give it a try, James. That’s all I’m asking.”
“James and Lily! Breakfasts ready!”
“Right mum! Coming!”James yelled back and was about to leave when I caught him by his arm, and blushed as I felt his muscles going rigid.
“Okay! Let’s be friends” James said after deliberating for a moment. He disapparated to keep his books in his new room, while I headed downstairs to the dining hall.
I seated myself in the one of the chairs while Mrs. Potter sat right in front of me. I helped myself with some porridge which turned out to be one of the finest I had ever tasted.
“You look happier Lily!”
“I am Mrs. Potter. Your porridge is unusually delicious.”
“Thank you, dear. But I doubt it’s just my porridge that has lifted your mood. Did James—“
Crack.
“James! How many times should I tell you, you should not apparate for the fun of it. Its making me very jumpy these days.”
“Sorry mum, didn’t want your delicious porridge to get cold.”
He took a chair besides his mother and started eating.
“Why don’t you show Lily around?” James choked on his porridge. I handed him a glass of water while Mrs. Potter patted his back.
“Come on James, even Sirius won’t be here by tomorrow. Give Lily a tour of the Godric’s Hollow.”
I blushed while James coughed himself to normal. “Alright mum.”He mumbled. I looked up at him. As our eyes met, I gave him a small smile, which he (surprisingly) returned.
“So go now!”, Mrs. Potter urged. After we ate I left to get dressed for the tour. Was I excited about the tour or the guide, I seriously don’t know.
