Chapter Twenty Four

“I’m leaving,” Logan spoke.

I sat up straight and stared at him. “What?”

He looked into my eyes and I swear I saw tears bream his eyes, maybe it was the water making his lashes look like that or I don’t know what. But I swear I thought he was going to cry. “I’m leaving Avery.”

I tried to swallow the big lump that formed in my throat. “W-w-w-h-a-a-t?” I stuttered. “Why? When? How?” I asked going into hysterics.

I saw him swallow.

“You do remember the men you questioned me about, right?” he asked, but didn’t wait for my answer. “They came from this school in London that dedicates themselves to shaping athletes and offered me a scholarship. The night I couldn’t stay it was them at my place and I, I accepted,” he stopped as he spotted the tear flowing down my cheek.

“How much time do we have together?” I choked.

“Two weeks,” he murmured.

I pressed my lips together as more tears flowed down my cheeks carelessly.

“Don’t cry,” he murmured and surrounded me with his arms as I buried into his chest.

“I don’t want you to leave,” I whispered.

“What do you want me to do Avery? Reject the scholarship?”

I hesitated. Did I want that? Maybe. Would it be fair to him? Not in a thousand years. “No I don’t want you to reject it,” I told him inhaling in his scent, all I could to always remember him.

“Maybe I want that. I don’t want to leave you,” he said caressing my hair leaving it more humid than it already was, but I didn’t mind.

I shook my head. “You are not doing that Logan Trainor, do you hear me? It’s your dream, soccer is your dream and I won’t let you ruin it even if it is for me, understood?” I told him, looking directly into his eyes.

It might be destroying me to say those words, but I meant them. Each and every word I said I meant.

He sighed. “I understand. I just wish it wasn’t that far.”

I cuddled against him and stared back at the rain. It was still pretty, but somehow its patterns seemed more tragic, more heartbreaking than what they had seemed minutes ago when I had thought Logan and I would share our last year together. When somehow things had looked ideal. But nothing was ideal for so long…

We stayed there cuddling against each other; Logan traced soft circles in my arm with his thumb finger.

“Avery?” he murmured.

“Mmm-hh?”

“I love you,” he said totally sure and heartfelt that my heart did a flip in my chest.

“I love you too Logan Trainor.”

He chuckled. “I know. I’ve known all along, even when you didn’t say hello that first day.”

I grinned. “Sure you did.”
