Chapter 1:

I've always hated when school breaks end. I feel trapped inside my school. There are no windows except on the main entrances and we're not allowed to go outside unless we're leaving.

If there was a school that was outside, I would be the happiest girl in the world!

However, that 's not my school and so, I grimly stepped out of my car and waited for Matthew to pull up. He was the only positive thing to look forward to.

We had every single class together except my photography class. He wouldn't take because he said, "Knowing him, he would break the equipment and have to pay!"

I smiled thinking about past memories with him.I spent my whole spring break with him! Every hour of every day, we were together. He was and always will be my best friend.

15 minutes passed and Matthew still had not showed up. I had already txted him twice and called him once. I pulled out my phone and dialed his number again.

Of course, his cheesy voicemail rang in my ears, telling me to leave a voicemail or to hang up. This time, I left a voicemail.

"Hey, Matty! It's me again. I was just wondering where you were're usually here by now...and you're not. So, I have to go in the school now...txt me when you get here! Bye."

I grabbed my backpack and made my way towards the front gate.

Time continued to pass by, and Matthew still had not showed up. I worked in the office during the mornings and I logged into the computer to check the absentees.

Sure enough, the name Matthew Baxter was on the list. I frowned wondering why he didn't let me know he wasn't going to be there.

The bell of the office door rang and I looked up to see a gothic chick walking through the door. She had on black combat-boots, fish nets, a black leather skirt, a black t-shirt with a skull on it, and had all black makeup on.

"Sup. I'm a new girl here...I need my schedule." Her blank, gray, eyes looked up and down my pink sundress and then went back to my face.

I replied, "Ok. Um...let me go see if your on the roster. What's your name?"

"Roxy Richards."

I nodded and then made my way down the little hall to the office's filing room. I skimmed through the R's until I came to the Richards.

Curiousity got the best of me when I found her file. I looked around to make sure no one was there, then opened the file.

There was all kind of comments about Roxy from her previous schools...all negative.

I quickly shut the thick file and brought itout of the office. When I came back to the front, Roxy was leaning against the counter chipping off some of her black nail polish.

"Um...I have your file right here. All I have to do is get your schedule from the principal."

Roxy simple said, "KK."

Principal Newman's door was closed and so I couldn't walk in.I knocked three times on the door and Ms. Lawrence, the secretary peeped her head out the door.

"What is it, Grace?"

I could tell she was agitated so I quickly said, "There's a new student who needs her schedule...Roxy Richards."

"Let me get it out of his office." She shut the door right in my face. I heard heavy footsteps behind the door, then Ms. Lawrence was back with a slip of paper.

"Here you are, Grace. Tell her we said Welcome to Bridge Academy!"

I nodded and walked back into the front office.

"Here you go. Your first period is World History which is up the stairs and the first right."

Roxy snatched the schedule from my hands and quickly skimmed her classes.

When I thought she was going to leave, she turned back around and said, "Thank you."

I smiled and replied, "You're welcome! Welcome to Bridge Academy."

I went through the rest of my classes like usual...only I didn't have Matthew beside me.

If I knew school would be this lonely without Matthew, I would've made more friends. I sat in my AP European History class waiting for the last bell of the day to ring.

As soon as it did, I pulled out my phone and dialed Matthew's number. I wasn't expecting the voicemail again, but there it was! Why wasn't he answering my calls?!

I was walking to my car when I heard someone yelling my name. I turned around and saw a young guy with black hair and gray eyes. I didn't recognize him...

"Hey! I'm Logan. I'm new, but we'll have photo together."

I still didn't recognize him, but I smiled and said, "Oh. Well it's nice...meeting you!"

This seemed to satisfy him because he smiled widely and said, "I'll be seeing you around!" and walked back towards the rear parking lot.

"Ok?" I said to myself.

I sat down in the driver seat and dialed Matthew's cell again. Still, no answer. I, slowly, started to worry and wonder if something might have happened to him...

Pulling my car out of the parking lot, I decided I would stop by Matthew's house. If he wasn't there...then I would panic.
