Chapter 29:

Roxy left my house a few minutes after we got back. She hugged me again and said, "Thank you so much for coming with me today."

I waved my hand and replied, "It's the least I could do." As soon as she left, my mom met me out on the porch and held up two bags of balloons.

"Roxy shouldn't have left! We're having you a baby shower!"

I shrugged my shoulders and said, "Well I guess I should call her back, huh?"

My mom nodded and then looked down at my belly. "Do you have a name picked out yet," she asked. I smiled and rubbed my stomach. "Yep," I replied, "but it's going to be a surprise."

Around 4 o'clock, the house was decorated in blue. There was blue balloons, blue streamers, blue confetti, and a two-layer blue cake.

I laughed and asked, "Do you think you have enough blue?"

My mom was up on a chair, hanging more streamers, when she exclaimed, "No! I sent Roxy to get more balloons."

I was about to say something else, but I heard a knock on the door. "I'll get it," I hollered. I walked over to the front door and opened it.

There standing in the doorway, was Justin. He was holding a shiny, blue bag and wearing a playful grin. "Hey, babe."

"Hey." I let him in, but didn't speak anymore to him. I was still in shock about what he said to Roxy and I planned on talking to him later.

I heard him talking to my mom in the kitchen and leaned against the wall to listen in.

"Hey, Justin! I'm glad you could make it!" My mom was being way too nice to him. I rolled my eyes and continued listening.

Justin replied, "Thanks, Hannah. Do you need help hanging those up?"

"Well sure! How 'bout you hand me the pieces of tape?" I heard the cabinet drawers open and then that was the end of their conversation.

I walked outside and stood on our front porch. So far, the only people coming were my mom, my grandma, Roxy, and Justin.

In my heart, I deeply wished that Matt could come. I hadn't visited him in a long time and I hoped he understood...but I had been so busy with my baby coming.

I heard the door open and then felt Justin's hands wrapped around my waist. His breathing on my neck, sent chills and I finally pulled away.

"Are you ok?" Justin stood a few feet away from me and had a worried expression on his face. I flashed a small smiled and, for once, I decided to be honest with him.

I said, "Not really...I just wish my friend, Matt, was here. He would've loved to be here."

Justin nodded and replied, "Is that the one at the clinic?" I nodded and said, "We've been friends since kindergarten. He's been there for me through everything...and I also wish my dad could be here."

This time, Justin eyes widened and he came closer. "Yeah I wish your dad could be here, too."

I had my back turned away from Justin when I asked, "...Why?" When I turned, Justin was down on one knee.

He smiled and stated, "Grace, I know I've made many mistakes in my lifetime...but I know one thing I've done right. I met you. Grace, I have fallen madly in love with you  and now that I know you're having my baby, I want you in life even more. If you dad was here, I would've asked him first...but Grace, will you marry me?"

I stood in front of Justin with my mouth open, He held a little black, velvet box in his hand and inside was a small silver band with a diamond perched on top of it.

"Justin...this is a huge surprise." I took the ring out of the box and held it in the palm of my hand.

He grinned and asked, "Does it fit? I wasn't sure what size to get."

I didn't try it on, however, I gently tucked it back in the box and pushed it back to Justin. "Justin, I'm sorry...I can't marry you."

Justin held the box close to his chest and frowned. "What do you mean? Why can' marry me?"

"I don't love heart belongs with someone else," I simply said.

I could tell what I said upset him, but it was time for me to be honest with him. He stuffed the box in his pocket and demanded, "Who does your heart belong to?"

"I'm not sure yet...but I know it's not you." I started to walk back in, but Justin held his arm out in front of me. "What do you mean by that?"
I crossed my arms over my chest and stated, "You're an ass, Justin. The only reason I've had something to do with you these past few days is because I'm carrying your child and I want him to have a father."

A nerve in Justin's jaw twitched and he sighed.  "Ok then. I'm sorry for the whole proposal scene back there and I'm sorry for anything I've ever done. But you know what, Grace, I'm not perfect. I worked my ass off to buy that ring and this is how you treat me?!"

I turned my head to the door to make sure no one heard us arguing. "Will you calm down, damn."

Justin ran his hair through his hair and softly said, "Sorry. I have to me later?"

"I'll try to," I murmured.

With that, Justin walked out the door and got in his truck. My mom stepped outside and exclaimed, "Aw! Where's Justin going?"

I watched him leave and speed down the road. "Something came up."

I tried to enjoy the baby shower, but Justin's whole proposal and then the argument was stuck in my head. I had a total of five gifts: two from my mom, one from grandma, one from Roxy, and then the gift Justin brought.

Grandma bought two outfits and gave me a card with $400 dollars in it. "Grandma, this is way too much," I exclaimed.

She waved her hand and said, "Now, listen, I want you to use it on my grandson. If you don't, you will regret it."

I smiled and promised her I would. Next, was Roxy's gift. She bought me a pack of diapers, baby wipes, and two sets of bottles.

"Thank you so much, Roxy! These will definitely be needed." She smiled and replied, "I know! Babies go through so much."

When I opened Justin's, instead of a gift for the baby, it was a white watch with a photo of me pregnant in the glass. I gasped. It was beautiful!

Lastly, my mom bought me a crib and changing station. I had already painted the room in a hunter green and hung some pictures up.

I thanked everyone again and stood up to put the things away, when my mom stood up and said, "Wait, Gracie. There's one more present."

I looked over at the area where the presents and asked, "Where? I don't see one."

My mom smiled and said, "It's outside. Why don't you go have a look?"

I knew my mom was up to something, but since it was another gift, I made my way to the door. When I stepped outside, I started squalling.

Matthew was standing in my driveway with a bouquet of flowers and a light blue bag. He was wearing a white t-shirt that said, in big blue letters, I'm going to be an uncle!

I ran over and gave him a bear-hug. "Oh my God! I am glad you could make it!"

He hugged me with the same strength and replied, "Did you actually think I was going to miss this?"

I pulled away and cried even more. "How are you even here?! I thought you had chemo today."

"They let me reschedule it so I could come. Evidently all your visits put you on the clinic's good side." Matt wiped the tears off my cheek and grinned.

I took the bouquet from him and laughed. It was a mixture of red and pink roses and in the midst of them were little blooms of baby's breath.

"Of course! You're the only one who would think of baby's breath!"

He grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "Hey? What can I say? The chemo hasn't messed with my head yet. Now, do you want to open your gift or what?"

I grabbed the bag and exclaimed, "Duh!" Inside, was a small glass picture frame with small circles surrounding a big circle. Above each circle was written: 'My first month, my second month, my third month, and so on.

"Oh! It's beautiful, Matt. Thank you!" I hugged him again and then put the frame back in the bag. "Can you stay for cake," I asked.

Matt's smile faltered. "No...sorry. The clinic only let me go to deliver your gift and of course, surprise you." I understood. I hugged him one more time and stated, "You were the greatest gift I got! I am so glad you got to come..."

Matt looked me and raised an eyebrow. "Are you ok? You look...upset."

I smiled and said, "I'll just have to explain it to you later, ok?"

He nodded and asked, "How many months are you?"

"You're going to be shocked. I'm eight months."  I laughed when Matt covered his mouth in shock.

He replied, "You better believe it! Has it really been that long?"

I nodded. Matt grinned and exclaimed, "I'm excited! Can't wait to see my nephew. Do you have a name picked out?"

"I was going to keep it a secret...but I want to tell someone." I motioned for Matt to lean down and I whispered, "I'm naming him Nash Michael Morgans."

Matt smiled and replied, "Perfect. That's a great name and don't worry, sis, your secret is safe with me."

I laughed and all of a sudden winced. Matt's face immediately had a worried expression and he asked, "Are you ok?"

My breathing had turned harder, but I replied, "I think so...but I think I just had my first contraction."

Take the World by Fire

WOW Talk about a fast paced and INTENSE chapter! This was just mind-blowing! LOL First Justin's proposal, then Matt surprising her and then her going into labor!? Eeeep!!! That's just crazy! I really actually have a soft spot for Justin and even though she really isn't into him, I thought it was sweet what he did for her and how hard he worked to get that ring. And I thought Matt's t-shirt was adorable. And now Grace is going into labor?! That is crazy! I hope the delivery goes well! Great work! KMU! XD
