“Hey Indi,” Claudia said just as she was about to walk out the door.
“Yeah?” I replied.
“Will you come over tonight? Mum and Dad are going out and, after everything that’s happened, I don’t want to be alone.
“Of course,” I said.
I headed back to my room. Being mad at Zeke and Aaron had taken heaps out of me, all I wanted to do was sleep. I collapsed onto my bed and let sleep come.
When I woke up, dusk had started to set in. I still had that hazy, confused feeling that reminded me of when I was lost in all the shadows of the forest. A quick glance at the time and I realized I
needed to get a move on.
I threw a few bits and pieces into a bag and headed into the lounge.
“See you later Indi.” Said Sara.
“See ya.” I attempted a smile.
I decided that a quick jog was in order, so I made it to Claudia’s in a few minutes.
I knocked at her door; surprised to find it locked.
“Who is it?” came Claud’s unexpectedly timid voice.
“Indi.” I replied, not really hiding the confusion in my voice.
The door swung open.
“Sorry, I’m just being stupid. I’m scared he’s going to show up again.”
“Don’t worry Claud. It’s ok to be freaked out.”
We sat down on their old couch to movies, pizza and chocolate cake. About half way through, Claud ran up to get blankets, pillows and sleeping bags. We buried ourselves, but left the light on.
About 10:30, when we were engrossed in Twilight for the second time that night; there was a knock at the door.
I got up and slowly headed for the door.
It creaked opened. As I saw who was standing in the shadows, I let out a faint squeal.
“What’s wrong Indi?” asked Claudia.
“Who?” she asked as she got up from the couch.
He stepped inside.
“You must be Claudia. I’m Zeke.”
“ZEKE?” she asked.
“Yes…” he replied.
Claudia turned to look at me, her face mirroring the shock on mine.
“Zeke. What are you doing here?” I tried to make my voice sound impartial and disinterested, but I don’t know if it worked.
“Indi, I had to see you. I had to apologize.”
“Zeke, just go home. I don’t want to see you.”
“please… Indi. You have to listen to me.”
“No. You listen to me. I don’t trust you Zeke, how can I? So, just go home. How did you even find me here?”
“I went to your house, but your sister said that you were here. So, here I am.”
I pushed him out the door.
I blinked, trying to remove all emotion from my face. It was a game I often played with some of my friends at school. Now I just needed to see how well it actually worked.
He turned to look at me again.
“Indi, you can’t tell me you’re just going to forget all of this.”
“No. I’m not. But what you did, it still makes me angry when I think about it. So just go.”
“I’m not going to give up Indi.” He said as he headed into the darkness.
Sighing, I shut the door.
I collapsed back onto the couch.
“Hand me that chocolate,” I began. “Because I definitely need a caffeine hit.”
“Look,” said Claudia. “I know he hurt you, but he drove all this way to see you. Can’t you give him another chance? Or, at least, stop the boy from going mad and say you forgive him? Because, I can
tell he really likes you Indi.”
“I know,” I sighed. “I know.”
