Chapter 1

That treacherous night

I gasped for air as I opened my eyes. What had happened? As I sat up, all I could hear was screaming. It was horrifying, taunting. All of a sudden, someone was dragging me along the ground like a ragdoll by my hair. I was thrown to the ground as someone said, “She’s not dead, you said she was dead! What happened?” in a deep hoarse voice. “I-I’m sorry, I thought she was dead. She wasn’t breathing, I swear!” someone replied in an anxious voice. “I don’t care! I said no one survives tonight. It doesn’t matter now, just go take her to the alley and deal with her! If I find out you failed this simple task, don’t think twice about coming back!” The voice said stubbornly.

I was dragged all the way to the back alley behind my house. It wasn’t a nice place to be. All of a sudden I couldn’t breathe, I was being choked. At the same time I was being pummelled in the face. I was in so much shock that I didn’t feel anything. When I started to realize what was going on the pain shot throughout my whole body. It was the most pain I had ever been in. There was nothing I could do. The stranger was strong, too strong for me to fight off. I tried to kick and scream for help but his strength was too overwhelming. “Feisty girl, you could be of much use to me.” At that very moment I felt two razor sharp needles sinking into the depth of my skin on my neck. It was then that I realized it wasn’t needles, it was teeth. The only thought that came to mind was vampire.

It felt as if my soul was being sucked right out of my body with ease. My vision started to blur and soon I couldn’t say a word, it was then that I saw a figure running towards me. With blood dripping from my face and not being able to take in one breath, the figure tore the vampire off of me with great force. Soon a battle arose between the two as they tore and growled at each other. I started to feel as if I was slowly dying. I couldn’t do anything, I couldn’t move. Soon I didn’t even have enough energy to keep my eyes open. Soon it was pitch black, as I grew nearer to the darkness of the night sky.

I slowly opened my eyes as the sunrise peered through the window. “Oh. You’re awake. Are you alright? That must have been horrifying,” A quiet voice said. “I’m Jason.” I sat up. Where was I? The room I awoke to was so unfamiliar that it gave me butterflies deep within my stomach. I turned to come face to face with a blonde haired, blue eyed boy. Could it have been the mysterious figure that helped me last night? He looked at me with his glimmering eyes. He looked like he was examining me. Why? “You don’t have to be scared of me. I’m trying to help you. If you wish for me to leave, I shall. Just say the word.” He said as a faint smile grew on his face. “I-It’s fine, but where am I?” I said anxiously. “You’re at my place, I tended to your wounds and you should be fine. We are not very far from your place but I wouldn’t want you going back there. I am not sure if those vampires are still there. I’d lay low for a little while just so things can cool down. You can stay for as long as you wish.” He said smiling.

There was something about Jason that I just adored. He was handsome, nice, and he took me in and cared for me even knowing I was a stranger. He knew absolutely nothing about me, but yet he care for me as if I was family. He stood up from the chair he was sat in by my bedside. He walked away as I just sat there looking blank. I still felt as if something was wrong. I dropped all my worries as he walked in with a plate of food. “Here, eat this. You were asleep for a while. You must be hungry, right?” He handed me the plate which had a very well made sandwich on it. “This looks nice. Thank you, Jason.” I said as I took a bite. I had thought to myself, that if Jason hadn’t been there the time he did. I would most have likely been taken or killed by that ferocious vampire. I knew at that very moment I was in love with Jason. Not only did he take me in and care for me, he saved my life. As he headed for the door, he turned to me and asked me what my name was. “Lacie? That’s a beautiful name.” That’s the last he said to me as he walked back out the room.
