The Soul Takers

Book by: JBrewer

Summary

About 11 years ago, I started working on a fantasy book. I put 3-4 months into creating the world and all of it's characters. I didn't get far into writing it though, I had to put it aside for awhile.
When I finally got back to it, I found that I had some pc problems and lost everything. When I tried to find my backup copies, those were lost also. All these years later it still stays in my head, so I decided to pick it back up in a way. I am going to write the story I intended to all those years ago, but this time.....poetry style. Maybe once it's done I will take it further from there.

(Prologue)

In the light of the moon it all began,
way out in the fields where a peasant ran.
His cries were loud and full of alarm,
when he brought news of the bandits
that were coming to cause harm.
As he reached the village
his screams did die.
When a hiss from an arrow
meant a bandit let fly.
The peasant fell to the ground
with one final yell.
How many bandits were around
he would never get to tell.

From their homes and shops
the peasants did run,
to the sounds of his cry
is how the battle begun.
When the peasants emerged
they looked up high,
to see arrows of flame
start to soar through the sky.
Knowing all was lost
the peasants began to flee,
as they heard the bandits give chase
with their shouts full of glee.

The peasants fled toward the forest
with hopes they could hide,
but they would never be able to run
as fast as the bandits could ride.
One man turned around
with an ax, prepared to fight.
Hoping he would slow down the bandits,
so his family could escape into the night.
As  an arrow pierced his right shoulder,
he yelled for his wife to run,
but as he slowly watched her fall
he began to pray for his son.

The little boy fled to the trees,
when he heard his father's final scream
and as he reached the darkened woods,
he wished it was all just a bad dream.
He hid amongst the trees
while the bandits burned his home
and hours after the bandits left,
he finally came out to roam.
As the boy walked through the village
he whispered "I don't know how,
but one day I will get revenge father,
I promise, this is my vow"
