Charlotte listlessly lifted each foot. She slunk through the desert, sliding down each slippery dune. She wasn’t accustomed to such extreme levels of heat, but she was slowly but surely making her way towards the little town in the distance. Well, she thought it was a town. From where she stood, a strand of tiny, black and brown dots appeared on the horizon, and she knew it was her best bet to move in that direction.
By sunset, she made it… There were a few people out and about. No one noticed her at first, but after taking her third step onto the territory, someone had spotted her falling--knee first--into the dirt. Then with open palms, she gripped the sand between her fingers and bowed her head into the dust.
