Chapter Summary: Shouldn't something be wrong with this? I thought to myself, but no matter how hard I searched, I could find nothing amiss. It was only Cat; she was my best friend--and a damn good kisser.

Cat stared at me for a moment, as if I had said something wrong. I returned her stare, searching for the root of her confusion. And, that’s when she leaned towards me. She came closer and closer to my face but stopped just before reaching my lips. For a brief while, she widened her eyes and continued to glare as if she could see right into my very soul. But what, exactly, was she looking for?
I was so scared. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move. Why couldn’t I move? It was only Cat… But, Cat was a girl! I should have shaken her or something and told her to snap out of it! But, I didn’t… I couldn’t.
Seething pressure and prolific tension lingered in the small, open space between our curious, blushing faces. At a whim, I leaned closely towards Cat and bridged the tiny gap. What harm could it do?
I--I kissed her and opened my eyes--. She hadn’t flinched at all. My heart raced and my blood pulsed frantically through my veins. I kissed Cat--on the lips! Damn it, that was a stupid move... To save myself the embarrassment of an explanation, I laughed nervously and moved back into my seat.
“So--that was weird, huh?”
“Yea,” she replied, getting on her knees and leaning towards me again.
Oh God--no. Not twice in one night. I can’t! Can I...? This time, she didn’t hesitate. Once and very gently, she pressed her lips into mine. Taken aback, I clumsily fell back onto my elbows.
She leaned back and paused, gauging my reaction.
I was stunned. I swear Cat was actually being a “cat” tonight. And, she pounced again, kissing me a little harder--so hard that I lost balance. My elbows slipped, and I fell onto my back.
Shouldn’t something be wrong with this? I thought to myself, but no matter how hard I searched, I could find nothing amiss. It was only Cat; she was my best friend and a damn good kisser.
She let me up for air but quickly sought my neck. Oh God, I was dying. Where in the hell did she learn to kiss like this? And, why wasn't I stopping her?
She kissed down to my shoulder then suddenly stopped; she looked down at me musingly. Then leaned back into her seat and pulled me off of the floor.
I stared at her for a second, my lips pursed together tightly.
“What?” she asked innocently.
“Don’t play that innocent act with me,” I hissed. “What the hell!”
Cat snickered. “That’s not the question,” she retorted. “The question is, why did you like it?”
“Damn it, Cat! You’re confusing me!”
“Jen, calm down, it’s not that confusing. You like it,” she said, laughing. “Just admit it.”
“Damn it,” I hissed.
“Fine,” she giggled. “Let’s watch a movie.”
“Yea, a movie sounds safe,” I said, giving her a sideways glance.
I didn’t see how Cat could do it. Throughout the entire movie, she talked and acted as if nothing had ever happened. I tried to respond in a normal manner too, but damn it, my head was swimming... I kinda wanted to kiss her again--just to make sure if what I was feeling was shock or actual attraction.
We were still awake around 3 a.m.. But, I was slowly getting sleepy. The intensity of the moment had died down, and I had forgotten much of the tension that had dwelled between us.
With each dwindling minute, my eyelids became heavier and heavier, and my head sank further and further down, until I was resting on Cat's shoulder.
I loved Cat... I trusted her. She was my friend, and she cared for me. As I faded further into sleep, I could feel her gaunt fingers pass through my hair.
