The young girl cries helplessly for her mother, as the beautiful women walks away with no regret into the shadows, with another man. The girl is chained to her father’s hand, forced to watch her mother leave with a wicked smile on her face.
“MOMMY!” the little girl screams, but the mother doesn’t even flinch. The women is filled with nothing but hate, leaves the troubled child behind as though nothing was wrong. Maybe the child mistaken but she thought she heard her mother whisper ‘sorry’; but the child thinks not.
Many years past since that crucial, and the little girl’s mother was never seen again…
I look up from my book, “This is going to be a cheerful book…” I set the book down. Did someone call my name? I stand the world blurs around me; I’m feeling a little drowsy. I grab the back of the chair and take a few deep breaths and head down the loud twisty stairs.
“Jesslyn!” Yup someone’s calling my name. It was a creepy, raspy cico killer voice. Do I stay? No. Why? Because I’m just as stupid as the people in the horror movies and go check out the noise.
The house is really dark. Like the horror movie dark; my hands tremble with panic. A shadow whips past me, and i flick my head in that direction, Nothing.i asure myself.I’m terrified of the dark, I’m a little bothered by the fact a monster could pop out of nowhere and eat me in one bite. The floor squeaks, my god Freddy Cuger is going to get me! Another dark figure flits infront of my eyes. I stumble backward but stedy myself with the railing.
I start humming a happy tune: twinkle, twinkle little star how I wonder what you are up above the world so high; don’t let the scary guy eat me alive; twinkle, twinkle little star how I wonder what you are!
“RAHHHH!” someone screams wrapping their arms around me. I fling my arms around kick my legs scream like a little kid.
“Jess! Jess! Jesus it’s me Jess!” the person cries in my ear his voice shaking from trying to hard not to laugh.
Mark… a real “Hilarious” joker. He laughs hard while I stand there; he has no idea how vexing he is. Twenty-seven and he prank’s like a little kid. A wonderful brother isn’t he?
“Give me one good resign why I shouldn’t hit you upside the head with a frying pan?” I ask crossing my arms to hide my quivering hands. I blink my eyes, fighting the erg to bawl my eyes out. How could he be such an ass? He knows about my fear of… everything; and does he do anything about it!
Yes! Makes it worse.
“Well… firstly, I’m your brother; second, that was funny, and third… where the hell are you I can’t see…” I find a light switch and squint my eyes as they adjust to the light. Mark, same as he was last time I saw him: scrawny, short curly hair, and a gross beard. Well not really gross but it’s like the pinpoint beard, and I can’t stand those.
Not to be quire but honestly he’s not that bad looking, he has amazing cheek bones, and a beautiful color in his cheeks that all the girly-girls want. I for one have a round face, I’m the color of a blank sheet of paper, and my nose is a nub. The only attractive thing about me is two things: my eyes, a big, bright exotic green color, and my hair, like my brothers a sandy blond, it waves down to my mid back.
“Do you have any idea what time it is?” I hiss in a low voice trying not to disturb my parents if they didn’t wake up already.
“Tool Time?” he asks winking at me.
“God, don’t you take anything seriously?” I roll my eyes and turn to the stairs. I glance around, what was that shadow? Just my imagenation.
“Mark, why are you here?” my dad stands with a golf club in his white knuckled hand. He was not angry he was livid. I could see the steam come out of his ears.
“Are you going to beat him?” I ask beaming. “Oh I’ll hold him down!” he glares at me okay he was not in the mood for my comments.
“Your mother is scared for her life!” he charged down the stairs. “And think about Kalena, she’s five and she heard her sister scream bloody Mary!”
“Sorry…” Mark sighs scratching his head. “I was just joking I didn’t mean any harm…”
“You are always ‘joking’, you should have stayed in law school then become some stupid artist!” he turns to me.
“Jesslyn go to your room.” I nod and glance at Mark poor boy.
I sit in my room and listen to my dad bite my big brothers head off. I close my eyes and try to rest. I wait till there is silence, ifind my self humming, but intently stop as i hear a whisle mimicing my tune, my eyes snap open but i hear my dad walks up the whiny stairs; he sighs at my door and knocks. it was probable just him
“Yeah?” I call sitting up. He opens the door, his face was purple, his hands scrunched into a fist.
“Don’t ever turn into that. You’re going to be a doctor or lawyer, got it?” I fix a smile on my face, and nod. ‘Doctor or lawyer’. No. I want to be a writer. Doctors and lawyers are boring and are too busy to have a life.
“Good.” He shuts the door and goes to Kalena’s room to tell her it’s okay. I gnaw on my lip. My fate has been chosen: Boring… I have nothing agents’ Doctors and Lawyer’s; I just don’t want to be one.
