I couldn’t believe my eyes. This wasn’t true, it can’t be true. I would do anything for this not to be true. But the wide eyed look on my boyfriend Damian told me it was true.
Kalyana was alive. And she was here. At my high school.
“What’s up? Cat got your tongue?” Kalyana said with a wicked smile.
I finally closed my mouth and tried to talk normally. “I…erm…why….erm…how?”
I could see that Kalyana loved seeing me, Cole and Damian in shock. And believe me, I don’t think I will ever get a bigger shock. “Let’s just say I wanted to see the girl who was ruining my good name!”
Ok, this shocked me more. “What? Your good name? Your Evil and sadistic!” I shouted at her in the middle of the parking lot. I felt Damian’s hand close around mine but worse of all, I saw Kalyana notice it and she didn’t like it one bit.
“Why thank you!” Kalyana said happily taking my insult as a compliment. She flicked her long dark hair over her shoulder. I felt a shiver slide down my spine. She was the spitting image of me…and it was creepy.
“What are you doing here Kalyana” Damian said so low I think he actually growled.
Kalyana’s eyes suddenly became wider and her smile became slyer. She stepped towards Damian and spoke in a low, sultry voice. “I haven’t seen you in so long Damian, or should I say Liam?” She was about to place a hand on Damian’s chest but he caught her wrist.
“Don’t touch me Kalyana” Damian growled at her. Kalyana smiled cruely at Damian then grabbed Damian’s wrist with her other hand and bent it backwards.
Damian grunted in pain and Kalyana laughed. I froze for a second then grabbed Kalyana’s hand, channelling all my power I could muster into strength. I lifted Kalyana’s hand off Damian and pushed her backwards. “Back off Kalyana!” I shouted back at her. Kalyana just laughed and then smiled at me. Then she lifted her hand with her palm aimed at me.
“Oh no.” I said before a ball of blood coloured power hurtled its way towards me then hit me in the chest. It was so powerful that it blasted me down the stairs of the entrance to the school. I braced myself for the hardness of the pavement but instead strong arms caught me and stood me on to my feet. Damian stood behind me with the look of outrage evident on his face.
Kalyana gave me a quick wave as she stood at the top of the stairs looking like a powerful goddess. “See you in Art!” She shouted to me as she turned around laughing and walked inside my high school.
I slowly turned to Damian. “What are we going to do?”
Damian sighed as he wrapped his arms around me. He kissed the top of my head and mumbled into my hair. “We are going to go to classes and you’re going to live your life just as you would normally do. If Kalyana catches any hint that her presence is affecting you, it will make her want it more. Don’t let her win Princess”
“Damian…?” I whispered into his chest.
“Yes Princess?” He said softly to me.
“How is she even alive?” I looked up at his beautiful face. “You said it yourself, you killed her”
“I know Princess, I did. But Kalyana is very powerful. I can’t believe I even thought she wouldn’t come back from the dead.” Damian said as he took my hand and we started walking into school. I had completely forgotten Cole was even here. He was stood at the top of the stairs, frozen.
“You alright Cole?” I asked as I stood in front of him.
“Erm…” Cole stuttured. “Yeah…am…I’m…fine” He then looked down at me and forced a smile. “Let’s get to class shall we?”
I looked at him for a second, I thought about asking him if he really was alright but I realised that would be stupid. None of us are going to be alright. “Sure”
English passed without a sighting of Kalyana. Thank god. But rumours had already started flying about the new girl. Apparently she was extremely rich, and oh so popular. That didn’t annoy me as much as everyone saying she was beautiful and hot. That creeped me out because she looked exactly like me. If only they knew what she was really like, they wouldn’t like her so much then.
Dinner time finally came around and after I escaped from the watchful eye of Damian and Cole, I snagged Darcy from a group of people clambering for her attention. I pulled her out into the middle of the playing field then stopped. “Whoa, where’s the fire Kal? And I’ve been meaning to catch you, why were you in my English class and why did you ignore me in English?” Darcy said.
I let out a shaky sigh. “She’s back.” I said just getting the words out.
The smile dropped from Darcy’s face. Her pretty face suddenly became serious. “Whose back?”
“Kalyana” I said quietly.
Darcy’s mouth dropped open. “Oh no. So…so that wasn’t you…in…in English.” I just shook my head. After I had rescued Darcy from Illyria a few weeks ago, I had to explain absolutely everything to her. Even how Damian had lied to me and how Cole had also known Kalyana. I even told her about the prophecy and the decision I had to make. I knew I shouldn’t have told her everything but I was being selfish, I needed to talk to somebody about all of this and I didn’t want to discuss this with Damian or Cole. “Oh, what are we going to do about her?”
My eyes widened “We are going to do absoloutly nothing. We, especially you, are going to stay the hell out of her way.” Darcy started to say something but I cut her off. “You don’t understand Darcy, she is even more powerful than me. I can’t take her on and I can’t protect everyone from her.” I could feel the tears prickle at my eyes. Darcy knew me better than anybody else. She grabbed me and pulled me into a hug.
“It’s all going to be alright, you have Damian and Cole by your side and I don’t appreciate you selling yourself short. You are powerful Kaly, you just don’t realise it. You saved me from Illyria and she was crazy.” Darcy squeezed me harder. “Plus, you have a powerful mother and truly pure soul. And…you have me!” She pulled away and beamed a smile at me. I couldn’t help smiling back. “I may not be a High Priestess or an angel or demon but I’ve got a mean right hook!”
“Thanks Darcy” I said wiping a tear from my eye. I could always rely on Darcy to cheer me up.
“Anytime” She said happily as she swung her arm around my shoulder. We had just started walking back when I felt a breeze flow down my back. I knew what that was. I swung myself around, putting Darcy behind me.
“Hey Kaly” Kalyana said as she stood with one hand on her hip. She had changed clothing now. She was wearing ripped black jeans and heels with a top that showed her cleavage to its best advantage. Well, at least we were not totally alike then. “Where’s you boyfriends?”
“Don’t you mean Boyfriend? I am not in a relationship with Cole.” I spat at her.
“You can’t lie to me Kaly. I know you better than you know yourself. I can see the white glowing thread that connects your soul to Cole’s. Hmmm…I wonder how our boy will feel when he finds out his girlfriend is not only soul mates with Cole, but she is in love with him?”
I didn’t have time to speak because Darcy spoke up. “How do you think your face will feel when my fist collides with it!” Darcy tried to get past me but I grabbed her wrist.
“Darcy, don’t.” I said softly, keeping my eyes on Kalyana.
“Hold back your pit bull Kaly. Don’t want her to get hurt.” Kalyana said in a very serious tone.
I ignored her. “What do you want Kalyana.”
She pretended to think about that for a second. “Well, I want to know why you are killing my reputation for starters.”
“I never lied about that. You are an evil and sadistic bitch” I said trying to stay calm. I watched Kalyana’s face go from happy, to horrified, and then settled on pissed off.
“Careful how you speak to me little girl!” She shouted at me then suddenly calmed herself. Geez she was crazy! “I made my army, I will do with it as I wish. All the High Priestesses will worship me. It’s in their DNA, my DNA. And unfortunately for you, it’s in your DNA. Can’t you feel a compelling feeling at the back of your mind? That’s me. That’s what you will always feel when you are around me. And believe me Kaly, I will force you to bow to me one way or another.”
“That’s never going to happen Kalyana.” I said as confident as I could but I actually could feel a pull towards her. Like I was forcing myself out of a routine of kneeling before her.
“Oh but it is because I am here to stay.”
“What are you really here for?” I asked her.
Kalyana gave me a sly smile then spoke low to me in a frightening way. “You took my life, and now I’m taking it back. Including my boyfriend.”
