The soldiers pulled me up to my feet and pulled me over to where Emer and Namara were pinned. They pushed me down onto the sand beside Emer.
She gave me a scared look. I tried to keep my expression calm, to help comfort her a little. I felt the tie my wrists behind my back.
"This one's only got one tail" The soldier behind me said.
The dusty brown male riding the Ekiris looked down at me.
"Interesting" he said. "Loose them in battle?"
"That's why I'm retired" I said.
He gave me an amused look. "Are you the one the broke into Serin's hold?" He asked.
"No" I said.
"You're lying." He stated. "You're with her, you were the last traveller seen by the patrols before she disappeared, and you're a remarkable fighter"
"That doesn't prove anything" I said.
"It proves a lot" He said.
"Well then, I did" I said.
"Good." He said. "We'll take you three back at Serin's Hold"
"Please no!" Emer said.
"What is your name?" The male ignored her and looked at me.
"Why should I tell you?" I said.
"Well I could just ask her" He pointed his sword at Namara. "She looks cooperative"
The Ekiris trotted over to Namara on the other side of Emer.
"Leave her out of this!" I said.
"Why?" He looked back at me.
"Because she's innocent!" Emer added in.
Namara's emotions, through all the fear and worry, showed gratefulness.
"She's the town healer, and with the war, this is the closest town for the injured soldiers. They need her. She had no part in this" I said.
"If she's healing Kasuk soldiers, it's only more of a reason to kill her" He said.
"I don't even know why you're here, or what's going on!" Namara said fearfully.
"She's innocent!" Emer said.
The male turned to Namara. "Your friend the retired soldier here, went to Serin's hold and broke out one of our most important prisoners" he pointed at Emer.
Namara gave me a shocked look.
"Sorry I didn't tell you" I whispered over to her. Then, looking up at the male again, "Let her go, she had nothing to do with this. She's just a healer"
The male paused, looking down at me for a second. "Alright," he said "Release her"
Two soldiers pulled Namara to her feet and untied her hands. They started to escort her out of the marketplace.
"Jeon!!" She called back.
"It'll be alright. We'll escape!" I called back to her.
"So your name is Jeon?" The male asked. I just glared at him. Four soldiers pulled Emer and I up and over to a riderless Ekiris a few feet away.
Two soldiers lifted Emer up onto the Ekiris's saddle. I watched one tie a rope to the binding on her wrist and tie the other end to the Ekiris's reins. She looked back at me.
Another soldier came up to my right with another rope. I resisted the urge to kick out at them and try to escape. It would only make things worse.
I cooperatively jumped up onto the back of the Ekiris. The soldier with the rope untied my wrists behind my back and retied them in front of me. He tied to rope to my binds and the other end to the saddle like Emer's.
I watched as all the soldiers started to move out of the town. The Ekiris we rode started out around the fountain, lead by a Serin riding another ahead of us.
"Look" Emer nodded her head over to the edge of the market. Namara wa standing there, in the shade of a stall, watching.
I flicked my one tail, trying to wave to the healer before we went out of view.
"What do you think they're going to do to us?" There was more questioning than fear in Emer's voice.
"Probably toss us both in cells, only feed us once a day" I said, looking ahead at the dusty male.
"I'm worried that Daui might force me to marry him" She said.
"Daui?" I asked.
"Daui Serin. He's talked about it. He doesn't usually keep me in a cell, he locks me in a large room with a bed, a small kitchen, and everything" She explained.
"Oh. Well let's not let that happen. I plan to escape before we even get onto Serin land" I assured her. "Why were you in the cell when I came and freed you?"
"It's a long story, I'll tell you when we camp" she was looking down at her bound wrists.
The dusty brown male was falling slowly back from pace until his Ekiris was right beside ours.
"What's your name anyway?" I asked him.
"Commander Tersad" He replied. "Why?"
"Oh, I usually like to know the names of most high ranks I kill." I said, trying to act bold.
"Good luck with that" He grinned back at me.
"So you're just a commander? Not general?" I asked.
"No." His grin turned into an annoyed scowl. "You'll meet him once you get to Serin's Hold"
Hey guys hope you like chapter 15
All my chapters are getting messed up, I don't know if you see it or not.
That's the last you'll see of Namara until near the end of the book.
