Prologue: The Porcelain Doll
Since I started high school my whole life was planned out. My perfect parents wanted me to fall in line right as they did. In the beginning their dreams for me did seem to be exactly what I wanted, a perfect little family, one boy, one girl, me a stay at home mom, and my husband the clear beard winner.
When I met Mason Della Cruz, we all knew this dream would soon be destiny. His father was the owner of three restaurants, one hotel, and one extremely profitable surf shop in Daytona, Florida. Being the only son, Mason would be the new owner once he finished school so his parents could travel the world. On our graduation day of high school, Mason proposed. We had been dating since our freshman year of high school. We had known each other even longer.
After graduation it was clear to me I was just an accessory to him. He would flaunt his beautiful blonde fiancé at all the business and casual dinners held at the hotel. I was a prop. For the first couple of months I played along. I attended the dinners in the elegant outfits his mother’s stylist had designed specifically for me. I smiled and kept my opinions to myself. I was only to speak when spoken to.
The wedding arrangements were made by Mason’s mother, sister, and their family event planner. This meant I had very little say in what the most important day of my life would be like. In the year that followed our graduation, it seemed something inside of me had snapped. This was no girls dream. Could any girl honestly say she was okay with sitting on a shelf like a porcelain doll?
