Xyla let out a silent breath as she pulled back on the bow string. With her sights set on the center of the rabbit's chest, she released, the arrow whistled through the air, reaching it's target. After a spasm of dying nerves, the rabbit lay unmoving on the forest floor. she pick it up to inspect her handiwork; a shot straight to the heart from 25 yards away. Even her cynical father couldn't ignore that the shot was impressive. As the sun went down, Zyla sprinted through the woods, on the paths she had known her entire life. When she reached the small cabin by the river, her father was waiting for her, his mouth set in a thin line. "You're late. I told you to be home 10 minutes ago, I thought something had happened" She let out a deep sigh "You're right, I could've gotten kidnapped by a gang of deer. Or worse, a gang of rabbits." He cracked a smile, but quickly reverted to his stern look. Hoping to change the subject, she waved the string of dead game in front of her father's face. "Speaking of rabbits, I shot dinner!" Her father didn't seem cross anymore, but he didn't seem overly impressed as she had thought it would. She had thought her impressive shot would put her fatherin a good mood, so she could ask him the question that had been burning in her skull for the past 12 years of her 16 years on earth. Before she could stop herself, she blurted out the question she whad intended to save for one of her father's better moods. "Dad, what happened to my mother?"
