……….. The rest of the afternoon was a whirlwind I sat at the vanity in the suite putting on the slick coat of lipstick feeling like a girl about to go on her first date. The bathroom door opened and Dante stood there looking like a million dollar killer in a suit tailored for him impeccably. I smiled at him through the mirror

“Damn you look edible” I teased my eyes fixing with his

“And I was just thinking the same” he walked in and over to me but there is a little something missing” I frowned at him He reached into his pocket and pulled out a string of diamonds he put it round my neck “This was going to be my wedding present to you, but you know I’m like a little kid and I can’t wait” he laughed “and there are these” he reached into his other pocket and drew out the matching earrings and held them out to me.

“Dante this is amazing” I swallowed hard as I took the earrings and put them in “It’s…”

“Perfect for you… I love you so much and sometimes I don’t feel like I tell you or show you as much as I could” he rubbed my shoulders

“Why would you ever think that?” I moved away from him and got up and turned to face him “Have I ever said anything about not knowing you love me?” He held his hand out to me I took it.

“We need to go I have dinner arranged for us” He pulled me from the bathroom

“Dante…”

“Lets talk over dinner okay” I chewed my lip nervously as we made our way out of the hotel in to the warmth of the early evening sun. “You okay walking to the harbor from here?”

“I guess… Dante you’re worrying me”

“Why?” He frowned as we crossed the street, the smell of the ocean filling the air

“Were you not in the bathroom in the suite… I want to know what I’ve done to make you think, you don’t show me enough that you love me” I stopped walking

“I…” he looked down “It’s… Look I don’t want to stand in the middle of the street and talk about this” he shook his head

“Fine” I huffed “Not the exact romantic start to the night I was thinking”

‘Baby” he put his hand in the small of my back, I shot him a look making him drop his hand, we walked the rest of the short distance to the harbor, Dante walked over to a launch and stepped down into it and turned and put his hands on my hips and lifted me down next to him. I sat down as we cruised through the water toward a yacht moored a little  outside fo the harbor.

“What is this?” I asked as we were welcomed on board by a woman holding a silver tray with two champagne glasses on

‘It’s Guilluame’s Private Yacht; he builds them so it would be foolish not to keep one for himself” Dante shrugged

“Good evening, I’m Marne” the woman with the drinks fluttered her eye lashes at Dante “I’m going to be the steward looking after you” She took a step back and tucked the tray under her arm “Dinner is all ready for you at the stern if you’d like to follow me” she turned and headed for the back of the yacht. I groaned and the pronounced sway of her ass that had absolutely nothing to do with the movement of the boat and everything to do with her wanting Dante’s eye. There was a round table set out with candles and silver wear that had to be all real. Dante and I sat down Marne walked inside and came back out with two salads and placed them in front of us “Is there anything else you need?”

“No thank you” I bit a little hard making Dante look at me

“I’ll be out in a short while to bring out the second course” she walked inside and closed the door

“Snippy wasn’t it?”

“Well I’m still wondering what the hell is wrong with you and I’m not into having a woman ogle you blatantly in front of me especially since I don’t have my gun on me” I picked up my drink “So what is going on in your head because I’m getting worried”

“I sort of realized that a lot of the last year you’ve been up and down and I’ve not always been next to you” I frowned “I’ve gone to meetings when you were sick, I went away for a week when you couldn’t fly with me’ he looked pained “I know we’ve argued over silly things and I’ve been a son of a bitch to you a few times”

‘Dante… we…” he held up his hand

“You’ve stepped up and taken a lot of Lyra’s shit on and dealt with how Casper fell apart without a single complaint” he swallowed hard “I was talking to Casper earlier and he asked me how you were doing with the fact Lyra is pregnant and…” he closed his eyes “The baby we lost a few months ago” I felt the lump come to my throat “I felt helpless, I didn’t know how to deal with it or how to talk to you about it. I’m a man, a dangerous lethal machine that pushes his feelings away to lock up the pain and doing that doesn’t help you” He reached over the table for my hand “You don’t know how much seeing Lyra the way she is makes me hurt because I’d love to see you looking like that” I felt a tear slip from the corner of my eye “But I know how dangerous it is when your body is under strain… I guess I just don’t feel like I’ve been there for you emotionally” He rubbed his thumb over my wrist

“You’ve been there, you’ve held me when I’ve cried, you’ve given me space when I’ve needed it and every time I was in the hospital and I woke up you were right there… Dante I know you’re not a damn heart on your sleeve kinda guy I get it and I knew that way before I ever fell in love with you” I got up and walked round to him, he pushed back from the table and I sat on his lap “We both closed down when I had the miscarriage, I felt like I was letting you down and if I didn’t bring it up to you then in some stupid way I thought that you’d  forget about it” he opened his mouth I shook my head “I know you can’t forget about it but maybe I wouldn’t be a failure”

“Oh god baby never” he held my face in his hands “We have to make a promise to talk to each other in the future, we have to scream and yell and cry with each other” I nodded “I just want to marry you and show you how much I love you and I’d die for you” I put my finger over his lips

“Okay that’s not the best line to use in the business we’re in” he smiled against my finger

“True” he took a deep breath “Are you hungry?” I shook my head “Dance with me?” the soft music playing was just something classical that I’d never heard before “Dance with the man that you’re going to marry and the father of future children that we will have” the tears streamed down my face as I got up and Dante moved pulling me to him the lights of the city behind us as we danced on the deck.

“I love you” I looked up at him

“I love you too Evie” he lifted my left hand and kissed my engagement ring…………
