…………………. I stepped out of the dressing room and in front of the others.

“Holy hell B” Riley put her hand to her mouth as she looked at me Mom and Grandma were looking at me with tears in their eyes.

“Honey you look amazing” Mom walked over to me and held my hand. “Wow” I turned round and looked in the mirror

“This is it” I smiled “I’m in love with this dress”

“Can I just do one thing” Grandma stepped forward turning me to the mirror and standing behind me Riley took off the dog tags I was wearing letting grandma reach round and put on the necklace that used to be my Great, great Grandmothers. The breath caught in my throat, making me miss J.J. all over again. “Now you don’t have to wear this if you want to make something for yourself”

“No I’ve dreamt about wearing this” I ran my fingers over the necklace

“J.J.’s going to be blown away” Mom sighed “So’s every other guy in the family”…………………….

………………… The next few weeks past in an almost blur with the amount of work I was having to do to get the order complete for the Jewelry store in Dallas as well as trying to reign in my Family and J.J. with wedding plans. My head felt like it was getting ready to explode. I sat on the window ledge in the apartment looking out as the rain poured down I saw Gramps pull into the parking garage and hurry along the side walk still in his uniform. I opened the door as he came up the stairs two at a time.

“Hey Marine” I giggled as he took off his hat and shook the rain from his clothes “You need a coffee?”

“Love one honey” he nodded following me into the apartment “So how’s it going?” he sat on the couch as I came from the kitchen handing him a drink.

“Not bad” I nodded curling my legs under me on the other end of the couch “I have two last designs to get done to fulfill my contract to Texas and I have a meeting in three days with a company from New York”

“Do you know how proud of you I am” he smiled patting my leg.

“I think so” I nodded tipping y head to look at him “So you didn’t come here just to ask me how things were going”

“Am I so easy to read” he chuckled

“Years of coaching from Grandma helps me to see the signs” I nudged him “So what’s wrong?”

“Well Mrs. Tanner” he sighed “As the base commander of Camp Lejeune I’d officially like to hand over these” he reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys and put them on my leg “I had to approve the housing lists this morning and you guys got your base house I looked at the keys and then back to Grandpa “I’m supposed to hand them over to your Marine but since I know you I think I can get away with giving them to my favorite granddaughter” I threw my arms round him and hugged him.

“Have I ever told you that you’re the coolest gramps ever” I kissed his cheek

“Once or twice honey, once or twice” He touched the side of my face “It doesn’t seem that long ago I was the one getting the house on base with your Grandma” he got a far off look in his eye “Before we had your Mom”

“Did you ever think you’d be the base CO one day?”

“Nope with my temper I never thought I would… You’re Dad now that’s a Political Marine good at making things happen he’s in for the Co job at San Diego” I looked at Gramps “You didn’t know?” I shook my head slowly “He’s thinking a fresh start for your Mom and him might be a good think especially now you’re married and so is  Flynn” I got up from the couch and walked over to the window.

“When?”

“He’s got an interview in a couple of days he has my recommendation already” I looked at him “No not because he’s my son-in-law because he’s a good Marine” Gramps put his cup on the table “You’re Dad isn’t in the same Palatoon as Flynn and J.J. so what happens if J.J. next orders have you guys moving to Japan… You’ll go with your husband right”

“Yes sir” I nodded

“And your Brother and Riley would be going as well” he rubbed my arms “This is what happens when you grow up honey the family will go separate ways because of the corps”

“I know it’s just…”

“You know I think a Marine needs to have his Daughters love back” I pulled a face

“You did this on purpose didn’t you Col” I poked him in the chest making him smile

“Well I’d have hated to have not had the chance to walk your Mom down the aisle to your Dad even if he can be a bit of an idiot at times” I groaned andf turned away from him.

“You didn’t hate Dad though”

“No I didn’t”

“Dad hates J.J. even after everything he’s done to help us out and after he took out Scott” I rested my head against the window “Why can’t the two most important Marines in my life get on” I groaned “No offence by the way”

“None taken honey” Gramps turned me round to face him “The hardest thing a Dad can do is give up his little girl it doesn’t matter how old they get or how good the guy is he gives them too she will always be his baby girl” he lifted my chin making me look at him “And that guy will never be good enough “Hell I still get crap from Logan about looking after your Grandma… Phillip is having a harder time than moist because of the bad stuff that happened He lost one baby, he almost lost your Mom in the accident and you and Flynn were so tiny they didn’tgive you much chance of survival”

‘We’re Marine kids we’re fighters” I laid my head on his broad chest

“I know that’s what we kept telling them… B don’t shut him out because he’s trying to portect what’s always been his to protect… He know’s J.J.’s a good guy but still” He pressed his lips to my hair. I guess he was right at the end of the day he was my Dad, My first Marine. My first Hero after all………….
