Chapter Two

A pointed-teeth filled snarl was directed at me along with a black furious glare. Short, black, spikey hair didn't hide the monstrous fish tattoo that curled up his cheek so the dangerous jaws surrounded his left eye. "Is she one of us?" Gar asked.

"I don't know what she is." Eric answered. I looked at him questioningly. He simply shook his head.

"You taking her to Jaz?" Gar questioned stepping closer to me. I ran and hid behind Eric. I didn't trust either of them, but at least Eric didn't look like he just stepped out of the dinosaur era.

"Who else would I take her to?" Eric said icily. Gar looked me over more thoroughly this time. Eric's jacket was so big on me, it covered the tattered shorts I wore.

"You could always leave her with me. How about it, girly? Wanna stay with me?" Gar asked me with a predatory smile. I shook my head furiously, making Gar laugh. "I don't bite... Hard."

"She said no, Gar." Eric said wrapping an arm around my waist as if to keep me from being taken. I stuck my tongue out at Gar. He hissed and made a move towards me, making me hide behind Eric again. "Let's go." Eric said turning to walk away.

"Why can't she talk?" Gar called after us. Eric ignored him and kept walking pulling me along. "Do you think they got her?"

"Go home, Gar. We don't need your bull shit right now." Eric said not even turning his head.

"You didn't see the mark on her shoulder did you?" Gar asked. Eric stopped dead in his tracks and glared at Gar over his shoulder.

"What mark? I don't even see a bite mark." Eric hissed. Gar started laughing again.

"You really have gotten old if your senses are that dull." he chuckled wiping a tear from his eye. Eric growled and forced me to face him. He pulled down the neck of the jacket as the blue of his eyes darkened to black. He focused on my left shoulder and his whole body became tense as his nostrils flared.

"Shit..." he hissed. Gar laughed harder and actually bent over as his body shook.

"Looks like she is one of us." Gar choked out as tears ran down his cheeks. I turned to Eric with a questioning look.

"I'll explain later, maybe." Eric said quietly pulling me with him again. Gar ran to walk beside Eric.

"Oh, don't be that way, Eric. You would've found out sooner or later. I suggest you explain to her now. You know what Jaz's place is like. She would be scared out of her wits." Gar said sliding an arm around Eric's shoulders. I stepped away from the hand that invaded my space. The claws were wickedly sharp and threatened to tear me apart.

"She faced a demon without an inkling of fear. I think she'll survive a few minutes in the club before Jaz takes her somewhere private." Eric said removing Gar's arm with a look of disgust.

"How are you going to explain the feeding and the magic? Are you going to tell her that she was drugged and dreamed everything?" Gar asked with a cocked brow.

"Jaz banned the witches last week and you know she doesn't allow feeding within the club. So run along and go terrorize someone else." Eric said waving his hand at Gar. "I'm in no mood to play your games. Shoo."

"You're such an ass, Eric." Gar growled. Eric gave him an icy glare.

"At least I don't look like some wild animal." Eric replied coolly. I nodded showing my agreement. Gar frowned and looked away.

"So does the missy have a name?" Gar asked crossing his arms over his chest. I shook my head sadly and looked at the ground. "Does she have anything?"

"Does it look like she has anything? More than likely she was meant to die in that alley." Eric said frostily. I could hear music playing on the other side of the wall to our right. I cocked my head so I could listen to it better. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't put a name to it.

"Looks like she can hear the club music. I wonder if she can find the door." Gar said with a smile that looked more like a snarl.

"Let's not push it, Gar." Eric warned. I took a deep breath through my nose and smelled something musty and old, but not quite like death. I followed the scent, curious to what it would lead me to. I ran into a wall trying to follow the scent. I rubbed my head angrily and kicked the wall out of frustration. Suddenly, the wall moved to reveal a dimly lit hallway.

"What was that about pushing it?" Gar grinned. Eric rolled his eyes and grabbed my arm, pulling me into the hallway.

"You're an idiot." he hissed in my ear. I pointed to myself, shook my head, and jerked my thumb back at Gar. Eric looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded. "That sounds about right."

"What does?" Gar piped up.

"Gar!" someone screeched before launching themselves into Gar's arms. It turned out to be a young woman with long, bleach blond hair that reached her knees. Sapphire eyes quickly looked over Gar searching for wounds.

"Salem, knock it off..." Gar growled pushing her hands away. Instead of backing off, she hugged him tightly.

"I was so worried about you!" she expressed. Eric's mouth was pressed into a thin line and his eyes slightly narrowed. I looked at him questioningly and he waved his hand at me.

"I was only gone an hour, Salem. So, get off." Gar said gruffly trying to pry her off. She only held on tighter. I noticed a brown paw print on her upper right arm, partly hidden by the sleeve of her black t-shirt. "Plus, aren't you supposed to be working?"

"I smelled you when you walked in. I just had to make sure you were ok." she answered. Eric started laughing, which made me jump. It sounded like a cold, bitter wind in the middle of winter.

"Shut up, snowman." Gar snarled. Finally, Salem noticed me. Her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Who's this?" she asked hugging Gar tighter.

"That's what we want to know. Is Jaz around?" Eric asked placing a hand on my shoulder. I brushed it off.

"She's in the back. But it would be a bad idea to bother her right now," Salem replied.

"Why, is she having club problems?" Eric questioned.

"Try a Xavier problem." She answered. Eric growled and stalked off down the hallway. I looked at Gar confused.

"Xavier isn't the nicest guy ever. Eric probably doesn't want him seeing you right now." Gar explained.

"Xavier is pure evil! How they ever allowed him to live is beyond me." Salem huffed crossing her arms over her chest. Gar put a clawed hand on her shoulder.

"He wasn't always evil you know." he said softly, which made his harsh voice hard to understand. I inched away from them, obvious to the fact that they were having a 'moment'. I turned around to walk away and ran into a solid body.

"Oh, excuse me." The person said stepping back. The first thing that caught my eye was the twin black lightning bolts that started at his tear ducts and worked their way down his cheeks. Ash blond hair was slicked over bright yellow eyes, which waited for me to say something. I just stood there like a moron. "It's rude to stare."

"It's rude to over stay your welcome." Eric said grabbing my arm and pulling me to his side. I glared at him and removed his hand. Instead, he wrapped his arm around my waist.

"Looks like you have your hands full with this wild one." The man chuckled.

"Salem, get her cleaned up while I have a little chat with Xavier." Eric hissed. Salem took my arm and started pulling me with her. I looked over my shoulder to see Xavier watching after me.

"Don't worry about them. This is a neutral space. Not even Xavier will break that law." Salem said turning down another hallway. I stumbled along behind her trying to see where we were going, only to run into her when she stopped. "You just get washed up and I'll come back with some clean clothes."

She flipped on a light before she left. I peeked into the room and saw a giant mirror that took up one wall. I carefully approached it. The door slammed shut causing me to jump. I looked around the room and saw a large shower that probably could fit ten people, a counter lined with towels and various other bathroom things, and the mirror. I stared at the person in the mirror unable to believe my eyes.

Funny how Gar seemed like the mean one at first but then the roles shifted and Eric was the meaner one.

I am still wondering what they are. Gar and Salem appear to be animal-human hybrids, but Xavier and Eric look like a different species.

Not to mention the cliffhanger! What did the girl see?
