Chapter Three

Short, chocolate hair stuck up in wild spikes. Wide blue-green eyes looked frightened. Pale skin was marred by smudges of mud and blood. I looked awful. I sought out a few towels and the shower. Gently laying Eric's jacket on the counter, I proceeded to undress as the water heated up.

"I hope these will fit. You're so tiny." Salem said bursting into the room. I grabbed Eric's jacket and held it against me to hide my state of undress. She stared at me, blinking in surprise. "Sorry."

She turned around. "I wasn't sure what color you liked, so I grabbed what I could find." She said holding up various shirts. I set the jacket down and snuck into the shower. Hot water rained down on me, washing away the blood and grime.

"Salem, is she in here?" I heard Eric ask as he opened the door.

"Get out!" Salem yelled slamming the door in his face.

"I just want my jacket back!" Eric exclaimed.

"You can wait until she's done. I don't think she would like it if you came in here while she's in the shower. I know I wouldn't." Salem said.

"Come on! She was practically naked when I found her. It's not like she has anything I haven't seen before anyways." Eric gruffed. I ignored their bitter bickering and started the process of scrubbing myself clean. When I was finished, I turned off the water and opened the door a little to stick my hand out.

"Here you go." Salem said placing a towel and some clothes in my hand. I made quick work of drying off and dressing. I stepped out. "I knew that color would work on you."

"Can I come in now?" Eric asked as I stepped up to the mirror. Salem had given me a deep rose colored top that had small garnets sewed in around the neck. The bottom of the top billowed out around my hips while the top left my shoulders bare. Dark jeans complimented the color.

"Yeah, you can come in." Salem yawned. Eric opened the door and paused when he saw me. "Don't stare at her."

"I was critizing the clothes you gave her." Eric said grabbing his jacket. I took it from him and put it on. "See? She doesn't even like them."

"Or she's just cold." Salem snapped. Eric held out his hand.

"Can I have my jacket back please?" he said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. I shook my head and stepped back hugging the jacket closer to me. I wasn't about to give up the first thing that protected me from the elements. Eric sighed and looked at Salem. "Wanna help?"

"You're on your own with this. I say let her keep it." Salem said with a shrug. Eric growled and looked back at me.

"Do you really want it?" he asked. I nodded vigorously sending water drops everywhere. "Fine. You can keep it."

"You're so nice, Eric." Salem said with a smile. I threw my arms around Eric, hugging him tightly. His whole body froze at contact. The tension practically saturated the air. Salem pulled me away. "Bad idea."

"I'm fine." Eric said from between clenched teeth. I could feel he wasn't mad. Just in a lot of pain. I tilted my head to one side and looked at him questioningly. He turned and walked out of the room stiffly.

"Way to go. Now he's pissed off." Salem sighed. I shook my head and walked over to the foggy glass of the shower. I wrote 'pain' on the glass. "Pain?"

'He's in pain' I wrote under the first word.

"Who? Eric?" Salem asked. I nodded.

"Eric will be fine." someone said from the door. I jumped and looked at the intruder.

Shimmery, auburn hair brushed pale shoulders and framed shocking violet eyes. The dark tube top showed off arms that were covered in forest green vine tattoos that started at her shoulders and trailed to her wrists.

"What's wrong with him? Did Xavier hurt him?" Salem asked with a worried expression. I could feel the worry roll off of her in waves, which battered at my body.

"He's having a...moment. He'll be fine in an hour or so." The woman said stepping into the room. Her eyes studied me closely pausing at my shoulder. "She'll have to be inked."

"Are you sure she's one of us?" Salem asked. The woman motioned for me to come to her. I hesitantly went to her. She took my chin with her cool, slim fingers and turned my head to the side. She brushed back my wet hair to look at my ear.

"Does that answer your question?" the woman replied. Salem stepped closer to take a look.

"Huh. How did I miss that?" Salem mused stepping back.

"You're not very observant that's why. It seems no one is anymore." The woman replied releasing her hold on me. I stepped away brushing my hair back into place.

"Should I go call Nate?" Salem asked. The woman glanced at her with a look that sent shivers down my spine. "I'm going!"

"So, what am I to do with you?" the woman asked as Salem dashed out of the room. I shrugged and walked over to the mirror. I was curious to see what Salem had missed. I pushed my hair back. My ear curved up into a gentle point, which I guessed was not normal. "Do you have any idea where you came from?" I shook my head.

"Nate said he'd be here in about an hour." Salem announced walking back into the bathroom.

"Thank you, Salem." the woman said.

"Hey, Jaz... Don't you think we should feed her?" Salem asked hesitantly. So this was the mysterious Jaz.

"Are you going to cook for her?" Jaz replied. Salem shook her head sadly and looked at the ground. Jaz sighed softly and put a hand on Salem's shoulder.

"Go beg Gar to cook something. I'm going to take her to my office." Jaz said with a small smile.

"Ok." Salem said before walking out again. Jaz looked at me.

"Ready to go?" She asked. I wrote on the shower door in the disappearing fog.

"He'll come later." She replied.

"Give him time to get over his... problem." She said. I underlined the phrase 'He's in pain'. Jaz patted my shoulder. "The pain he's feeling is something you wouldn't understand unless you've had a history like his, which obviously you have not."

'I want to help'

Jaz looked at me for a moment and sighed. "Just let him get over it on his own this one time, ok?" I frowned and thought about her proposal. I really didn't know Eric and I could possibly hurt him more if I tried to help. Hesitantly, I nodded to show my agreement. "Let's go get you fed and inked then."

Awww, the girl looked kind of adorable in Eric's oversized jacket. Almost like an anime character. :3 Overall, I felt this chapter showed a cute side for everyone.

Gar can cook? I always knew big guys had a soft spot but didn't think Gar's would be for cooking.

Aesthetically, all these bizarre humanoids (have no idea what they are) and their fashion reminded me of bikers and rockers. I'm more of the latter myself, so I thought your character designs were groovy.
