Nothing can be worse than the rain. I can’t ever recall a time when I enjoyed the rain. I don’t particularly enjoy the cold either. The cold makes my bones and muscles hurt, and no matter what I do I can never get warm enough. Living in Arizona, I guess I don’t have much of a problem in the cold weather department. Although winter this year has been particularly cold, it haunted me. I was walking through frigid on and off rain, that put my hair in knots. My small private school was coming into view and I was excited for it. I loved my school, and all the friends I had there. I would never trade it for public school. I don’t know why my parents decided that it was the best option for me, they pretty much hate me, and that may be an understatement. To my parents, I was an accident at birth. They didn’t want me, and I guess I accepted that. I always enjoyed being in school, because it was a never ending hell when I was at home with my parents. I walked in to classroom. Looking around, I noticed more of the students had gone “missing”. It’s not a myth in our town, that vampires exist. They very much walk our streets, and take whomever they please to satisfy their thirst. Our town had a nightly curfew, to try and keep our citizens safe, yet more and more kids were dissapearing. The feeling of seeing them gone was very unsettling. These were friends of mine, people I enjoyed talking to. People I would never see again. I often found myself pondering the creatures. I had never had an encounter with one, and was hoping that day would never find me. I have heard so many ghost stories about them.

“Elizabeth!...” Yelled my teacher, pulling back into the real world. Everyone was staring at me with a blank expression on their face.

“Yes?” I asked, rubbing my black hair our of my eyes. Confused on why the teacher was yelling at me, she was normally pretty nice to me.

“Since your mind is not in this classroom, I believe you have earned yourself a chair in the hall.” She spoke, venom dripping from her words. Well alright then. I had never been punished in such a simple manner. If only my parents punishments had been this simple. Scars and bruises covered my body from their torment. I was a mere slave to them, and nothing more.

...The school day went by and I made my decent back home. Most days I would wander away from my home, to find a quiet place to relax, but I didn’t feel like getting punished by my parents today. Walking up the stone driveway of my home, I noticed a black stretch limo sitting outside. Highly confused, I quietly entered my humble home. My parents were arguing with two large men, making my eyes go wide. My parents were being scolded. I had no idea who these men were.

“The human girl is ours....” One of the tall men said. Eyeing me up and down.

“Than fucking take her, we don’t care.” My dad chimed.

“What is going on?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“You my dear are coming with us. Far, far away. Things will be explained later.” The second tall man said.

“...Leave? I don’t understand, I don’t know who you men are. I am not leaving with you!” I screamed turning to run back out the door, but as soon as I turned one of the tall men was in front of me, in a blink of an eye.

“How did you..?” I began, and he venomously smiled at me, showing off his beautiful set of canines, two were noticabley sharper than the rest..

“No....Vampires..NO!” I screamed, but both men grabbed me before I could run.

“Lets go child, time to leave. We grabbed a few of your things we thought might be of some importance to you, but trust me when I say you wont need anything where your going.” The man spoke. I eyed my parents still sitting on the couch behind me. They were a part of this. They didn’t care. A tear rolled down my eye, and gleamed in my fathers eyes. Both men ushered me outside into the back of their limo. One of the men sat back with me, while the other went to the front to drive.

I sat in the back as we drove. Utterly alone, and lost in my own thoughts.

“Can I at least know your name?” I called out to the man, he was just sitting there, staring at me like I was something to eat...which I guess to him, I was.

“Why are you not afraid?” He asked me, question in his piercing blue eyes.

I looked down at my hands..”I don’t....know” I whispered. Why wasn’t I scared? Maybe I was just in shock, and the fear would come later. I could not answer my own question. The man scooted closer to me. Putting his nose to me like a dog, and sniffed me.

“You smell so...delicious....for a human” He said, grinding his teeth together.

“Get away from me..” I whispered.

“Ah, now are we frieghtened?” He asked laughing, grabbing my wrist in his stone hands.

“Your hurting me, please let me go.” I said, my voice starting to rise. I didn’t like being handled by this man this way. I could take it from my parents, but a man I didn’t even know. He put my wrist to his lips, and made a long wet mark with his tongue.

“I’m sure Marcus wouldn’t mind just one taste..” He said. Right as he was about to bite me, I shut my eyes as tight as I could, hoping it wouldn’t hurt as bad as the legends had it. The bite never came. A noise shot from the mans pocket, disturbing him, causing him to let me go, and pull a cell phone from his pocket.

“What?” He ushered into the phone. I heard a loud voice speaking to him, and this man looked angry.

“Yes sir.” He kept saying into the phone, until finally he put the phone back into his pocket.

He looked at me, angry, like I had taken something away from him. Did he change his mind about biting me?

“You must sleep now dear Elizabeth, we still have quite the travel to make.” He said pulling a small needle from a compartment in the limo. Before I could question it, he plunged it into my neck, instantly making me grogy and putting me into a dreamless sleep.
