“Hi Mom,” she said slowly, tentatively listening for her mother’s tone of voice, which would paint the rest of the conversation between mother and daughter.
“Sweetheart, I heard some wonderful news today!”
Ugh, chipper. So that’s how it was going to be.
“I just received an invitation in the mail today from your little grade school friend, you know, Beth Ann!She’s getting married to that wonderful boy Greg from down the street!Oh, I’m so jealous of her mother, all that planning she’ll get to do.I bet that house will just be bustling until the big day!”
“Yeah Mom, I got my invite too, and I’m so happy for her,” she interrupted, which she knew was the only way to get a word in at this point. If left to her own demise, her mother could – and would - carry on a conversation with herself for hours, and Alisa just did not have the patience today to be the unwilling witness to this wonder.
Here it comes, she thought.“You don’t sound very happy, Alisa,” her voice melting from chipper to serious in a matter of an instant.“Whatever happened to your guy friend from work, anyways? The cute one I saw pictures of.”
“Mom, he was one of the models for a shoot we did for that workout magazine.I didn’t even know his name.”And in the bottom of her mind, she envisioned rolling up that magazine and wacking her mother in the back of the head with it.Honestly? Her mother assumed too much.
“Well, I just thought that since you had his number from work, you would have at least taken a little initiative and called him.I mean for Pete’s sake, you saw the man without a shirt on.”From chipper, to sober, to irked. How did her mother do it?
This has really gone too far. “Mom, he didn’t take his shirt off because of me, it was for the shoot, like I’ve been trying to tell you.”
“Well, whatever you say, sweetheart, but I just want to make sure that you’re putting yourself out there. You know, you’re not going to catch anyone walking around with a camera in front of your face all day.”
“Bye, Mom.”
“Love you, sweetie.”
Sigh.“Love you too, Mom.”

I like the way you write. Not telling what gonig to happen. So you cant see the whole storie at once. Every chapter you seam to add some thign else to think about.
