“So, yeah, about that bath,” the cat just stared at her from the window sill, “Definitely a necessity after that bomb of a phone call.”
Alisa walked over to the couch and let the phone fall from her hand.It bounced lightly on the soft red upholstery.Step one, rid herself of those awfully stylish high heels.Hand to heel, and off.Hand to heel, and off.
Much better.
She left her shoes strewn on the living room floor and proceeded to walk down the long hallway of her apartment to her bedroom. The polished wood floors of the hallway were cooling to her feet, and helped to begin the de-stress session. She reached her bedroom, the floor under her feet giving way to the plush rug her mother had bought her when she first got the apartment. It felt almost sensuous underneath her bare feet.Of course, thoughts of sensuality and her mother had no place in the same room together. Her mother, who was pushing her daughter to marry as soon as possible. No thoughts of sensuality there.Just find a man that looked good on paper, marry him, and be done with it.
She turned around to find the fat tabby had followed her into her bedroom and was looking up at her expectantly for some attention.
“Aw, Felix, if only you were a man. You’re independent and clean, but also affectionate, and definitely very cuddly.”She chuckled softly at the mental image of her would-be future with Felix.Yellow eyes, bright orange hair, and their children would have tails… no, not something she was willing to risk just yet.She bent down to rub him behind the ears, his favorite, and whispered sweetly to him, “Oh if only, Felix, oh if only.”
Standing back up, she walked over to her adjacent bathroom, through the doorway, and over to the large clawfoot tub.Her tub. This tub was the reason she signed the two year lease with this apartment. This tub, if not really owned by her, would at least be all her own for two whole years. The thought of someone else basking in the glory of her little sanctuary was grotesque. And so she turned on the water.
“Hmm, Felix, bubbles or no bubbles?”
“Bubbles it is.”
Bath water running hot, she poured in the vanilla lavender scented bath bubbles. She walked back into her room and began to peel out of the day’s clothes.Pink v-neck sweater, check.Cropped pants, check.Quirky earrings her best friend Dawn had bought her as a gag gift… check. She looked over to her full length mirror that stood in the corner of her room and began to wonder. Why didn’t she have a man yet?Standing there in front of the mirror in her underwear, she let her hair down out of its neat little bun she wore in hopes of looking mildly professional. It was long, below her shoulders, and faded from blonde to caramel. Her body was toned from her morning jogs in the apartment building’s gym.She wasn’t at all ugly, she thought to herself.
No, just plain.
There really was nothing to draw attention to herself. And her mother’s words came back to her.Would anyone ever take the time to notice her if she always have a camera in her face?Life as a photographer was not glamorous by most means, but it had its exciting points.Big shoots in exotic locations.Meeting a few famous people here and there. But the big problem was this:who would notice Plain Alisa when she was always next to Supermodel Cindy?
“Ugh, screw it.”
And with that, she unceremoniously stalked to the kitchen - in her underwear alone, no less – and grabbed a bottle of wine from the fridge and a glass from the cabinet.Back in the bathroom, she tossed her underwear through the doorway and onto the bed.Poor Felix, who had fallen into a cat nap on the bed, was now awakened with a bra to the face. His tail twitched, and with a sound one could only explain as grumpy, he slouched off the bed and into the safety of the open closet.
