“Okay, Tony, let’s go over the ground rules again.”

Tony let out a long sigh.He hadn’t known when he signed onto this that Alisa was such a freak.A control freak, that is.

“Ok, 1) feed Felix twice a day, 2) clean his litter box out once a day 3) leave the TV on Animal Planet during the day, but make sure you turn off the TV at night.He hates all those infomercials.5) Leave the AC on 72.If he gets too cold, he’ll get sick.Oh, and if you don’t mind playing with him when you come to feed him, that would be great too.He can get really frisky.”

They both glanced over at the fat orange tabby lying on a sunny spot on the floor, and Tony had to doubt that the cat had ever seen a “frisky” day in its entire life.

“Look, you’re only going away for two days.You act like you’ll be gone for months.”

“Hah,” Alisa laughed a little to herself.“I never know with my mother.She might kidnap me and force me to marry someone while I’m home.”

“What?”

“Huh?Oh sorry, just rattling on.”

Alisa took the opportunity to shake off her thoughts of home and what her mother would try as soon as she got there.She left the living room and walked into the kitchen.She proceeded to show him where the cat food was, the special way to open the can, and where to put them for recycling afterwards.Then he followed her to her bathroom.The tub, she explained, was strictly off-limits.She made him promise he wouldn’t use it.

He could eat all her of food; he could drink all of her wine.He could even throw a raging party and ransack the place.She didn’t care.As long as her cat was safe and fed, she would be glad.As long as no one set foot around, near, or inside her precious tub, she would not have to kill Tony.Tony, her neighbor, the quiet man who lived alone, wrote for the sports column in the local paper, and always kept to himself.

What a thing it is to make a 50 year old man cross his heart and hope to die.

We had a bit of a falling out - the character and I - and so we couldn't decide where her next move would be! I'm still holding onto hope that she'll come back into my life soon!
