Preface

In most cases, if you endure life, then you get rewarded with death. Ha! I should have known my life was no longer that simple.

When you think about it, open water is almost like a metaphor for being alone. That point at which you’ve been abandoned and don’t know which way to go. Don’t know which way is land, or which way will lead you further into the endless depths; into the hands of the evil little monster called solitude. That’s what made it so dangerous. This world, this huge, overbearing world was hard enough without having to go through the motions alone. When you think about it, we are all plankton in a vast ocean, some stuck in open water. That’s what it felt like, like being a single plankton, constantly swimming against the tide. Until a big whale comes along.
