A crash. A blinding white light. A voice singing. That is all I can think of as it feels like I am being torn apart, then painfully being put back together. I have no clue what is going on or where I am. I can only think of a crash, a white light, and a beautiful voice singing to me. Those three things seem to be the only things I can think of. I squirm when I feel like my head is being twisted, pounded against concrete. What is happening to me?
Then my eyes open.
"Oh my gosh! Her eyes! There open!" A voice yells. But whose voice is that?
I look around. There are five people standing in here. Two of them are dressed in nurse's attire and are messing with cords that are connected to my body. I look at them and they smile back at me. I rub my head. It aches so badly. I then move my head a little to my left and I see two girls, maybe 16? 15? They look identical. Both have blonde-white hair and shining green eyes. Both are standing with tears in their eyes. Who are they? I turn to the right when I hear a loud hiccup. It is a man. He seems to be in his late forties with a nearly gray head of hair. His face is pink with tears streaming down his face. He grabs a hold of my hand and I recover my hand firmly against my body. He seems to not notice
"It's good to have you back, Norah."
I look at him. Is that my name? Norah? That's an odd name, isn't it? It seems like a name that comes from the sixties.
"Sherry," one of the nurses says, "Sher- come look at this." The nurse named Sherry goes around my bed to the other side and looks at a monitor.
Her eyes widen and then she looks at me. "Norah, sweety, Barbara and I are going to go get your doctor. We'll be right back," she tells me slowly. Why is she talking to me like that? I speak English.
"Norah, honey, you gave all of us quite a scare you know," says the man. Why does he insist on talking to me? I don't know him. "Megan, Hailey, and I were worried sick." His hand moves to my head and he begins to rub it.
I move my head quickly and yell, "Stop!" He looks at me alarmed. There is then a knock on the door and a balding man with thick-rimmed glasses walks in and heads straight for me.
"Norah," he says, "what is your last name?" I stare at him blankly.
I don't know what my last name is. I rack my brain for a few seconds and I can't find anything. Before I could answer the hefty man in the chair butts in, "What is this all about?" He demands.
The doctor raises his hand and looks at me and says again, "Norah, what is your last name?"
"I-I don't know." I say defeated. He then pulls out a little light and looks into my eyes.
"What's going on with Norah?" The man asks, obviously annoyed when he wasn't answered the first time.
"Mr. Van Heuston, your daughter is suffering from a very severe type of amnesia. Meaning, she can't remember anything of her past. This could last for a few days or it could just as easily last for the rest of her life. My condolences."
He looks bewildered and turned to me, "Norah, baby, I'm your dad." He starts to cry again and instead of reacting, I fall into a deep sleep.
