With every step I feel my strength draining. My lungs burn and my legs are heavy. I can hardly remember why I’m running. I’m so tired. But then in the darkness I hear it, the screech and the beating of wings. I push myself to run faster, I will not let it take me again. My long skirts are getting tangled in the bushes and I silently curse the fact that I am a princess. I hear the screech again, and this time it’s closer. The beast that is after me is huge. I have seen it up close. It’s huge and strong and if it catches up to me I will have no chance. I try not to think of its massive talons that took me away from safety only three days ago. But no, it won't kill me. She wants me alive, not dead. She retains the right to kill me...as slowly and painfully as possible. I must concentrate on running; I must concentrate on getting out of the forest and back to the palace. He must have come up with a solution by now. He is my only hope now…no, he is the only hope the whole kingdom has. The trees are thinning, and the light of the moon is starting to light my way. I must be getting close. But if I am out in the open it will be able to see me better and will surely snatch me up again. I stumble as I hesitate momentarily, but I have to do this, so I keep running. “It is not my time to die, it is not my time to die” I gasp the words out. How long will adrenaline keep me going? “It is not my time to die.”
